A few days after arranging my new title, I went in search of a new town house. After a little bit of searching I found one in my price range; a lovely 4 bedroom, two level home with a small servant's quarters. The house was already furnished; the former owner having passed in the plaque some time ago with the inheriting family in Azzalle wanting to sell it. Granted the furniture was a little dated and warn, and not intirely in my style, but it the master bedroom was of my liking. It had a small study with an ajoining library on the first floor, a nice sized kitchen, and an ample sized dinning room and lounge.
It was in my mind that once I had arranged everything and my home was settled into, that I would personally invite the Duchesse Anacrasia Shahrizai as well as some of my other Shahrizai cousins for dinner. But that was still to come, today I was focusing on packing up my things, in the next few days I would move most of my things to my new residence. I just hoped that I would be happy there. I worked quietly at my packing, my mind thinking over a dozen things; some good, some bad, most of them putting me in a contemplative almost sullen mood.

There was too much bustle in the house, bustle like when my parents passed away. Servants packing things up so that they could be moved on. I wandered the halls, my arms clenched around me. The house felt empty already and Uncle Azriel hadn't even left yet. Eventually I found my way to his room, and silently leaned against the door frame as I watched him pack.

For a time all I focused on what getting my things ready to be sent to my new place, and thinking about what my life was going to be like from now on. It wasn't till I turned that I saw Lilli standing against the door. "How long have you been standing there?" I asked curiously after I got over being startled. I had been so deep in reflection that I hadn't noticed her.

Long enough.
"Not long," I replied softly, not meeting his eye. "I didn't want to interrupt, you looked busy."

She didn't look at me yet I could still tell she was sad; I hoped that it was only temporary and that once she had the house to herself that she would feel better about the move. Either way, her mood seemed to match my own. "You're not interrupting." I replied softly. "Come in if you wish. I can always pack and talk at the same time."

I moved into the room, sitting down on a patch of the bed. It was the only area that wasn't covered with his things. "Where's your new place?" I asked, knowing that I should know.

"Its in the east borough." I replied as I watched her sitting on my bed, my former bed. "You should come with me when I take this load; you know, see where it is." I added.

"Alright," I replied, looking at what he still had to pack. I would want to know for later, and it was the only reason I didn't give it a pass. Right then I didn't really want to see the place he'd rather be instead of here, with me. It didn't matter that he was packing slowly, the fact remained that he was still leaving.

I moved quietly for a moment or too as I thought about what else to say to her; I knew she wasn't entirely happy with this, but it was the only thing that would work. I hoped in time that Lilli would be comfortable enough being alone that she would actually appreciate the distance. "You're welcome to come and stay when ever you'd like," I added, hoping to at least find some footing in the matter. "I was even hoping that you might come and pick one of the rooms and decorate it how you like; it could be place you could come if you didn't want to be here." I offered a light hearted smile as I looked at her.

So that was it. I could live in his house, under his rules, but he couldn't live with mine. He was not unlike a child who takes his ball and heads home when he's loosing, leaving the other children without a game to play. It made me mad, and I had to close my eyes for a moment so that I didn't snap at him.
"I'll think about it," I said, even managing a normal tone.

"Alright." I replied, though I could sense something else, her words held a edge and her body almost seemed rigid; call it that Shahrizai instinct. I wished I could ask her without fear of what would happen if I did. There seemed to be an uneasy peace; while not happy, there didn't seem to be any open waring between us. "Or not, you don't have to if it make you uncomfortable." I added after a while of silence, my voice timid. "This is your home after all, I wouldn't want to talk away from that."

He didn't get it. He just didn't get it, I could see it in every line of his body during his awkward pause. But at the same time, he was afraid of making things worse.
"I'll think about it Azriel," I repeated, my voice softer this time. I couldn't hate him for this. Even if we were fighting, we were still family.

I nodded again, her voice soft and set about working at packing my trunks again. "My new place is a bit of a mess." I was going to try again at making conversation. "Mostly just because the furniture is out dated." I gave her a bit of a smile. "I could use your guidence in picking out something a little more modern."

I nodded at his request. "Alright," I replied. I wasn't thrilled about any of this, and I think he could tell, but at least he wasn't insisting I move in with him and leave my house, my family's house behind. For that I could help him buy furniture.

I nodded again, falling back into silence as I closed the last of my trunks. "Well," I said as I ran my sweaty palms against thighs and looked at Lilli. "That looks like the last of it."

"Packing is always difficult," I said, looking at the trunks. "And I've heard unpacking is even more so."

I nodded gently. "Yeah, I remember, I've done quite a bit of it over my life." I said with a little smile. "So, shall we?"

I nodded, not meeting his eyes as I rose. Of course he knew what packing and unpacking felt like, he had never been in one place long enough to put down roots. "Let's go see how outdated we're talking about," I said, trying for humour even if to my ears it sounded flat.
