I spoke with my financial correspondant, first the one in Kusheth in charge of my funds for the estate there, then my man here in the City. After approving the changing in funds and notifying all the proper authorities, most of my business was coming to a conclusion.
In Kusheth I arranged for the 10 hectares of land next to mine to be purchased adding to the already existing 25 hectares that I owned. The land I was buying was in a bit of disarray having been neglected by its ailing former owners, and the house, though nice, wasn't of great size and would serve better purpose by being ripped down. My senechal spoke of various options, one of which was to keep it for personal use, or in his opinion, fix it up and use it for servants quarters. I didn't think that there was need for that, but he also informed me that things were properous on the estate and with the addition of the 10 hectares, it would be likely I would need more staff. All in good time anyway, those were things I would worry about in coming days. Today was of a different matter, today I was arranging for my new title.
"Monsiour Shahrizai?" The voice interupted my thoughts, though pleasently as I began to drift into matters that were not suitable for the moment.
"Yes..." I looked at the fair haired man and then shook my head. "Forgive me, please continue."
"As I was saying, the only title of Marquis currently available for the cost you are willing to spend is Le Mons. As you requested it comes with no earthy belongings, no estates or tenaments to speak of." I nodded, trying the title silently in my head
"And no one that will try to claim the name as inheritance?" I confirmed.
"The last known member of the Le Mons family died near forty years ago; no one has tried to claim it since." He replied, opening his hands palm up in an aloof manner. I nodded and took a breath before exhaling.
"Alright, then I accept." He slid a sheet of parchment over his desk to in front of me.
"I have spoken with your exchequer and they assure me that the money can be delivered easily and as proper protocal the document you are about to sign has been witnessed by the Queen herself and three members of parliment stating that the title you are about to purchase is true and fair." I reached out and took hold of the quill that he proffered. My hand shook a little as I pressed the tip of the quill to the paper and began to sketch my name in fine form. When I was finished I released a breath I hadn't realized I had been holding and the man sitting across from me took back the quill.
"Congratulations," He then said, his voice subdued, a calmness that seemed to come from years at his business.
"Forthwith you shall be known and rightfully addressed as his Lord Azriel Shahrizai, Marquis Le Mons." He smiled gently and I nodded.
"Thank you." I said as I stood and we both reached out, shaking each other's hands to seal the deal. Then as ettiquette demanded we bowed to each other and I then left his office, heading back to the town house. I still had to find my own place, but I was one step closer to being the person my parents had always hoped I would be; I just hoped it was truly something I wanted too.
