Name: Cossette nó Balm
Born Cossette de Presd'eaux
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Height: 5' 2"
Race: d'Angeline
Home Providence: Marsilikos
Appearance: Cossette is about average for her age group, but petite in stature. She appears somewhat thin and fragile though in truth she is not. She has long, straight, and blond hair. Her eyes are a blue-gray that change hue sometimes with what she wears.
History: Cossette was born to Lilly and Seraphim Presd'aeux. Her father was a physician and her mother his assistant both in the office and out. Her parents very much loved each other and their two kids, Cossette and her younger sister Hannah.
When Cossette was 7 years of age her family went on a trip toward the Ephesus. Her dad had heard about some of the alternate forms of medicine they used and he wanted to research the methods first hand. He decided to bring along his sister, Marion and her family as well. Along the way the family came across a tribe of native people who had a large number of ill people. In trade for a few days rest her parents offered to help heal the sick. After much language difficulties a truce of sorts was agreed upon and her parents set about their work as Cossette and Hannah played among the tribal kids.
What the family didn't know is that this tribe had a rival and that the rival had been planning on eliminating some local competition for land.
One night, as the family slept curled up together in a animal hide dwelling, the other tribe attacked. They set in with a plan to kill as many as possible and didn't stop to question the obvious outsiders. In the confusion one of the females of the host tribe grabbed Cossette and also managed to find her Aunt Marion who had a child of only two she kept by her side constantly. The three of them ran with a small group of natives who knew a good place to hide. Cosette tried to run back to find the rest of her family but her Aunt, with the help of one of the other ladies, held her back and dragged her away with them.
The small group hid for three days in a cave before braving a venture back to find out the fate of the tribe. What awaited them was not pleasant and would haunt Cossette's dreams for many years.
Her Aunt gathered what they could and made the journey back with only her young son and Cossette. They were lucky that the waring tribe had not completely ransacked the place and were able to stumble their way back to the Caerdiccia Unitas with some provisions and seek help the rest of the way home.
Cossette had reached her 9th birthday before the small group made their way back. She returned to a empty home and one that was about to be divided among some remaining family, having assumed that some ill had fallen the group with their extended absence and no correspondence. Marion took over her husband's estate and Cossette's family estate was added to hers, but in the form of a trust that Cossette would get back when she was of age.
Cossette was plagued by vivid nightmares of her ordeal and after months of night terrors her Aunt decided she couldn't handle having the girl live with her. She herself was trying to cope and Cossette only made it more difficult. She spoke with Cossette and asked if she would want to follow her family's business into service with the Night Court at Balm. She explained to her that Balm did more than just heal the sick and that she would only send Cossette if she would be happy. Hoping for a new environment and a place that would ward off her bad dreams she agreed to see about joining the House.
A visit to the Dowayne was made and Cossette's family history made her more than eligible for the house. So, the House took her in and helped her heal and deal with her nightmares with some help from Gentian until she was old enough to be an Adept.
Cossette was able to put away her bad dreams and she poured her heart and soul into her life at Balm. She absorbed all that she could and tried to learn every field of practice that Balm offered. She worked with both illness and the incorrect workings of the body. She set up broken limbs and even made her way as an assistant to the small and elite group of house surgeons.
Cossette is barely 16 and has not yet had her debut. She is very in-tuned to her work and at times seems a little obsessive. While she is happy to perform the duties of a servant of Naamah, her true love and interest is in the healing of the body and the mind. She gives as much as she can to help and to drive away the grief and guilt that lies in her heart. Her trust will be held until she completes her marque and service to Balm House.
