I had not met the Comtesse yet, so I was going into this blind. I did not know her nature, her preferences, not even the sound of her voice or the colour of her locks and eyes. Normally this would have made me nervous, but tonight, I was light, airy, and ready to enjoy myself with whoever this confident woman might be. She had written me as a welcome and an invitation to join her in the festivities of the evening which I had not been invited to. I wondered, then, if she truly was a confident woman, the type to go after and get what she wanted. The possibility made me smile.
I had spent a great deal of time working on my appearance, and chose a black, gold and white doublet with puff sleeves that showed through white. It showed my broad shoulders and narrow waist, which lead to a matching pair of black breeches. My rapier was at my side, but I knew I would have to leave it in the carriage before entering the Palace.
With a smile on my face, my locks long over my ears, I arrived at the Comtesse's home and mounted the steps to the front door. With a deep breath and a single nod of encouragement, I knocked and waited for her to answer.

Normally, I would have my maid answer the door, but tonight I decided to greet the Duc myself, as an expressing of respect and goodwill. Smoothing the skirts of my gown (gold satin over green velvet), and touching my hair lightly (which was done up in a twist), I opened the door.
"Good evening, my lord," I said, curtsying lightly. My, but he was pleasing to look at. "I am Comtesse Rosalie de Merteuil. Won't you come in?"

Of course, last minute, my mind conjured up an image of a haggard old maid, but I brushed it away as the door opened to reveal beauty, nothing withered or aged about her at all. Golden locks with blue eyes, skin that looked flawlessly smooth to the touch, in a gorgeous gow, gold and a forest green so dark it bordered on black if one was not looking closely. Of course I tried not to let my eyes wander as she greeted me with a curtsy. "My lady Comtesse," I said softly as I bowed in greeting to her. "I would be more than happy to," I said with a genuine grin as I entered. My eyes got a moment to sweep over her figure, and of course to take in her gown. "You love lovely, my lady," I said with a smile as I stepped beside her, looking about. For a moment, what Seraphin had told me flashed into my mind and I wondered if this was the fair haired woman she had told me about.

"Thank you, my lord," I said, closing the door behind him. "Would you care for some refreshment before we leave? Some wine, or brandy, perhaps?"

I smiled as she closed the door and I turned to look at her. She looked purely angelic.
"Brandy would be lovely," I said with a smile, "get the chill of the evening out of my bones," I chuckled.

I nodded. "Of course, my lord," I said, smiling sweetly. "The sitting room is just the way. Please make yourself comfortable." I led him to the room adjoining the foyer, going to the sideboard and pouring two glasses of brandy.

"Please my lady," I said as we entered into the sitting room. "Call me Castiel," I said with a smile before I went to a seat and sat down, watching her pour at the table. Her dress was stunning, she was stunning, and I found myself grinning, most likely like an idiot, at being lucky enough to be escorting someone so beautiful.
"So, I do have to ask," I said as I watched her, elbows resting on my knees as I leaned forward in my seat. "How did you hear of my arrival?"

"Call me Rosalie, Castiel," I said with a smile, as I handed him his drink and sat across from him. "And as for how I knew, my father's first wife was Kusheline; she told my half-brother, and he told me you were arriving. He spoke very highly of you, and so I knew I had to meet you."

"Thank you, Rosalie," I smiled as she handed me my drink. She explained how she knew about my arrival, and I listened, taking a sip, nodding my understanding.
"Ah well then," I said with a chuckle, "I hope I do not disappoint."

"I am sure you will not," I said. "My brother is a very good judge of character." I raised my glass. "Shall we toast?"

"Of course," I said with a smile as I too raised my glass. "What do you wish to toast, Rosalie?" I asked as I smiled up at her.

I thought for a new moment. "To a lovely evening with a new acquaintance," I said.

I smiled and nodded, raising my class. "To a lovely evening, with a new acquaintance," I echoed before letting the lip of my glass clink lightly against hers. I took a sip and looked upon her again, making sure not to let my eyes wander too obviously over her gorgeous form. "Do you attend fetes on the regular?" I asked with a grin. "I hear there's a fete weekly in the City, or so it seems."

"Well, I try to put in appearances at the ones I am invited to," I replied nonchalantly, taking a sip from my own glass. "Though when there are many fetes, I usually just go to the ones that look like they will be the most interesting or important."

I nodded in understanding. "There are not many fetes in Kusheth, but when I was there I did try to make it out to most of them whenever time allowed," I said, sipping from my glass afterwards. I smiled at her, my eyes finding hers, set in a face of smooth skin framed by golden locks. "If I might say, you really do look stunning, Rosalie," I said with a warm and sincere smile.

I smiled, lowering my lashes modestly, though inwardly I was gleeful. "Thank you, Castiel," I said. "You look very handsome yourself."

"Thank you, Rosalie," I said with a soft smile as I reached forward and brushed her cheek gently but fleetingly with my thumb. I leaned back after, taking the last sip from my glass as I smiled. "Are you ready to make a grand entrance soon?" I asked, wondering if she wanted to leave now.

I leaned slightly into his hand. "Yes, I think so," I said, taking a last sip of my drink. "Are you ready?"

"Most definitely," I whispered as she pressed gently against my palm. Her skin wsa warm, smooth, flawless really, and I smiled warmly at her before slowly withdrawing it. I offered her my arm with a smile and a crisp bow, playful but still respectful. "Lead the way, my lady."
