For a moment I looked at them, drawing on the strength their mere presence gave me. Where would I be without my family? I loved my mother and father dearly, but my brothers especially I adored; I was closer to them than anyone else in the world. Then, with a slight sigh, I turned and made my way up the stairs to bathe, to change, to close my eyes.... and prepare myself.
The steam of the bath brought the tears again, and I cried unabashedly into the sweetly oiled waters, letting the tears fall in hopes of getting it out now rather than later. When the waters ebbed from my eyes, I rose and donned a robe, then set to work with my maid to ready myself for the visit to the Queen.
Two hours past the time I'd originally disappeared, I made my way down the stairs again, donned in a somber dark blue that modestly covered my chest, my shoulders, my arms. I had no wish to look daring or stylish, no wish to draw attention... Elua, I wanted no attention as it was, but would handle what I had to. I knew people would see me in the Palace, knew all thought I was on my honeymoon with Delaunay, and the gossip mill would begin anew. My sunny, wavy hair was caught up in a silver mesh, something I generally hated using.
Reaching the bottom stair, I looked around, wondering where Gratien and Pierre were; I wanted to say goodbye before leaving.

I'd gone back into the library to try and do more work, but I couldn't concentrate, so I had poured myself a drink and tried to stay calm, pacing up and down until I heard creaking on the stairs. Walking out, I saw Azabel descending. She looked much better now that she had bathed, though her eyes were a little red, and I knew she had been crying. "Do you feel a little better?" I asked.

After Azabel departed for her bath, I went to my study and began to write letters. Some were innocuous and were nothing more then corespondents with friends, the other were directed to people that had influence, people to whom would have interest in my sister's annulled marriage. I made sure to tell the tale as it should be, implicating Delaunay as the cruel bastard he was, but for the most part it was in preparation for the rumours that were to come; I would be sure that my sister's name would not be dragged through the mud.
When I finally heard her finish and return down stairs, I followed moments after, hearing Pierre's voice first as I walked, finding the pair of them standing together.

My eyes found Pierre as I first glanced around, and I found myself smoothing out my dress, wondering how exactly I appeared to him. "Yes and no," I admitted; I felt better having bathed, but nothing could erase all that weighed on my mind, and nothing could take away from knowing what I faced in the near future.
Gratien appeared, and I drew in a small breath, steadying myself. "I should go," I said quietly, knowing the carriage had already been readied in preparation of my departure.

I nodded. "Do you want one of us to come with you?" I asked. "You don't have to face her alone if you don't want to."

I stepped toward them as my brother spoke. "Let her go Pierre," I said softly. "She wants to do this on her own." I then looked to Aza to confirm that that was the truth. I knew my sister well enough to know that even if she wanted us there, she would indeed do it on her own. So I knew better then to say much more other then give her a gentle smile. That and I was planning on following her to the palace to hopefully listen in on their meeting. I would make damn sure that Sabrina annulled the marriage between my sister and Delaunay, even if I had to corner her and throttle her to get my dear cousin to agree.

I held in a sigh as Pierre and Gratien spoke; I wanted the both tight with me, but I knew too that it wouldn't do anything. It wouldn't make being presented before Sabrina any easier, and the Queen would likely send them both away, anyhow, so she and I could talk privately and frankly. Waiting in a reception room would be no fun for either Gratien or Pierre.
"I have to," I said, my voice nearly a whisper before I leaned and kissed Gratiens cheek, then kissed Pierres. "I will be home in an hour or two... I can't imagine it should take longer than that."
Gods, I hoped not.
I smiled sadly at them before turning and making my way out of the house, accepting a beaded shawl wrap as I left. I covered my shoulders and arms with it as I settled in the carriage, my eyes closing.
It had begun.

I smiled gently to Azabel, watching her as she exited the house before I called out for one of the maids. "Yes your Highness?" She asked as she bobbed a curtsy.
"Have my horse readied immediately." I said, my eyes still on the door before I turned to look at Pierre. I opened my mouth to say something, listening to the girl scurry off, but snapped it shut and decided against it. There were a few things I needed to collect in my study, then I would be off to the palace to rectify the situation.

I gave him an incredulous look. "Where are you going?" I asked. No doubt he was going to follow her, Mr. She-needs-to-do-this-on-her-own.

I knew better then to tell Pierre what I was up to. "I'm going for a ride." I said over my shoulder as I stalked back toward my study. "I have to clear my head. All this business, its fogging up my thoughts."

"Wait, I'll come with you," I said, following him. "We don't have to talk or anything, but riding sounds like a good idea." I definitely didn't want to be left alone here to worry until Azabel got back, if he was telling the truth. If he was lying, I had just as much right to follow Aza as he did. She was both our sister.

Damnable brother, I turned and stepped toward him reaching out to place my finger tips against his chest to halt him from following me. "This isn't the time for brotherly bonding Pierre, I have things to think about and I need to do them my own way." I narrowed my brows and removed my fingers from him. "Just, go do what ever you want, but let me be alright?" With that I turned and walked back toward my study once more, I hoped dearly that he didn't follow, and if he did, I'd just have to come up with some excuse as to why I was going to the palace.

I threw up my hands. "Fine, do whatever you want," I said. "But if you make things worse because of your damned foolishness, I'll..." I stopped. What would I do? I didn't know. "This isn't about you, this is about Aza," I said. "Whatever you do...just do it for her, and not for your ego." Damn him, first he drove away Reese, and if he wasn't careful, he would drive away Aza, or even me. Turning around, I headed for the stairs and up to my room.
