Dearest Comtesse de Merteuil,
I cannot say how pleased I was to find your message. Thank you, very kindly, for welcoming me to this fair City. So far, though it has not been long, I have found my stay here most pleasant.
Thank you, also, for your words. I am certainly flattered to hear that you have heard highly of me and hold that in my esteem. I would be absolutely honoured to accompany you to the fete. I am not sure when it is, but I know I will be free. Shall I come for you in my carriage?
I do hope to hear from you again soon to put a face to the woman behind the letter.
Yours truly,
Castiel de Bonnel, Duc
