"Yes," I murmured. "Thank you for your time."
With that, I turned and slipped quietly out of the chamber. I walked slowly at first, then began to run. Reaching my chamber in a minute's time, I flung myself on the bed there and burst into tears. I wept until I could weep no more, until I could feel my heart of flesh slowly hardening. Resolute, I looked at myself in the mirror across the room. I would not, could not fail again. And I would not.
Moving to sit at my desk, I picked up A History of the Thirteen Houses and began to reread the chapter on Valerian philosophy. At the end of the chapter, there was a question: What does it mean to yield? I picked up my quill, and slowly began to write.

Avrielle was upset when she left- she hadn't tried to hide it and therefore it was easy to read from her expression and posture. With a sigh I left the room, closing and locking the door behind me as I walked to Trinette's office and knocked, entering once I heard her call admittance.
She was sitting behind her desk working one some basic contracts and I waited until she had dusted the pages with sand before sitting and catching her eye. "Gareth- is the class over already?" she asked curiously.
"Yes, at least from me- I'm going to have to resign from the job," I told her honestly but with a slight shame in my voice- I was a perfectionist about such things and, while I knew it was the right decision, I still felt as though it would have changed. Still, the realistic part of me knew that was not to be the truth. "She does not respond well to my style of teaching and- seems to let her thoughts wander to indecency. One of the younger females may be a better choice."
Nodding with understanding and with a slight smile for me she made a note and I stood. "Thank you Gareth- I will ask you to meet with whoever else teaches her to impart what she has covered and what problems you observed."
"Thank you," I replied with a slight bow as I turned and left, returning to my own room and picking up a harp; it would pass the time, especially when I would rather have been with someone I could not see at the moment. Perhaps a talk with Douleur would help- I could find her later and quickly promised myself I would.
