It had been just a few days, and my life had changed in ways unexpected. Ledgers and games, gambling, play of seduction, that was my life so far.
But now, it was all different, and so I showed up at Orchis, looking to see Larquel. It had been a few weeks, just after my virgin price had been bought, and I'd told him so excitedly at the time.
It had finally come down, and my sweet sixteen was at long last that of a full-fledged adept - I even had a budding marque at the back of me.
I showed up at the gate, and was introduced with giggles, and told to wait.

A small fosterling who'd I befriended that a young adept from Bryony has arrived. Could be Shona I thought. I thanked her, and told them to send her through a particular hallway. That being done, I hid in said hallway which contained a closet which I hid in. Not coming to visit Larquel deserves retribution. I sat and waited patiently with a huge grin plastered on my face.

I followed the indications, and went in said hallway, waiting to see what was about. Hmm... it was awfully quiet in there. Well, I was there to see a friend, had nothing to hide, no reason to be scolded. I took a series of confident steps, still curious. Orchis House was usually not so quiet.
I grinned, amused at the imminence of it all. I half expected a bucket to befall me, half expected to fall in a hole. Befriending a prankster is a risk a prudent Bryony knows not to take, and I'd taken it... I was ready to take the hit.

"Gotcha!" I jumped out behind her in a tickling bear hug. I managed to spill us both toward the floor, though I did save her the brunt of the impact, turning to land on my back and her atop me. After I got over my laughing fit. I pipped up.
"Hello Shona, how are you?" I said grinning.

I should have known. Larquel always managed to surprise me, it seemed. Not that I minded, really. He wrapped around me, and we tumbled to the floor, though what I reacted the most to was the string of tickles on my side.
I laughed, and laughed, until a little tear went down my cheek. "Well hello to you too, Froggie! You jump on people, now?" I turned to look at him, eyes full of mirth, and kissed his cheek. "Missed you, how are you?"

"Froggie?!" I declared with amused distain. I smiled a little at the soft kiss. "I aspire to no less than jack rabbit, thank you very much."
I let her roll off me, and helped her to her feat. "I'm very well, what brings my favorite ducat pincher to Orchis this fine day." I cocked my head to the side with a sheepish grin.

I took his hand, grinning, and stood in the well-lit hall way.
"News," I replied, "Froggie..." and I pinched his cheek. "And speaking of Ducats, mine were very well spent, thank you. But I'd rather tell you all about it elsewhere than in a hallway, if you don't mind."

"You know, one day, you'll run out of nicknames for me." I grinned. I put my arm around her shoulder and led her out to the common dining room. Not currently meal time, it was mostly empty, but it was well lit, and we could always make find some snacks and wine if need be.
As we crossed the threshold, I looked at Shona with curiosity. "So, where is my Orchis want-to-be spending her hard earned monies now? Did you buy yourself some pleasant company." I mused.

"No, no, little rabbit, not at all," I replied, grinning, as I propped myself on a chair. "Not unless you consider Javier D'Channing to be pleasant company worth paying for," I added with a wide grin.
There was in front of me left over bread, and I picked up a piece, and rather then keep it to myself, I tore a piece for him and offered it.

I took the bread with a mild look of shock on my face. "Isn't that..." I tried to remember, then it hit me. My jaw dropped.
"The Marquist?!" I exclaimed rather loudly. "Oh Shona, that's wonderul, let me see, let mee see!" I was nigh bouncing on the ground like a child. Then again, I was still a child, my own debut some months away.

I laughed as much as Larq jumped, one giggle for each bounce, and said, "Here and now? I'm not sure your Dowayne would approve. Imagine, a virgin Orchis looking at the back of a just new Bryony, in the middle of a hall..."
I winked, and added, "Maybe later, if you're really, really good."

"Awwwww." I whined like a little girl. I'd already seen plenty of naked adepts. I even saw Shona coming from the baths once, that was my little secret. I grinned at the thought.
But for now, I relented. "Your no fun. And besides, between the two of us, good is a relative meaning." I slid around behind her, grabbing some fruit from a bowl on the table, and taking a bite. My mouth had some apple in it when I spoke.
"Sho....did chyou jusht come to gloat?"

I swung a chair from the table, and sat astraddle, leaned over the back, apple in hand. This time I swallowed the food before speaking. I grinned in response. "I'm all ears, do tell, do tell." I stammered.
I was really curious and excited. So very soon, I'd get to start my own, and I looked forward to it with the eagerness of any good adept.

I chuckled. Mention matters of the bedchamber to a boy, and they give you all their attention. Not that it wasn’t deserved, I mused. Such discoveries were indeed wonderful.
“My patron was very nice,” I said happily. “Handsome, tall, and filthy rich. He was a merchant on Night’s doorstep, one who did excessively well. He… he took his time, and he really prepared me,” I said, recollecting. “It takes skill, to take a girl’s maidenhead without causing her pain, you know.”

I listened with all the rapt attention I could muster. She was a year older than me, and she lorded it over me. But, I wasn't bitter, instead I found it very amusing, and it often gave me means to surprise her. I think she forgot though that I was raised in the same area, and saw all the things she saw; the books, the showings, playing attendant to full adepts. But it made me smile that she felt good about it.
I swayed in my chair a little. "Well, I hope I get such a lucky patron. And now that you've told me to be careful, I'll take every care not to hurt my first maiden." I grinned sheepishly.

I rolled my eyes, but he did make me grin. “I know you won’t, you imp!” I replied, sticking out my tongue at him. “But seeing as you’ll never know what it is to have your own maidenhead popped, Sir, I thought you’d like to have the first account.”
Oh, Larquel ! I sighed a little. “I was worried – patrons aren’t always as skilled as adepts, as you know. What if he’d been awful?” I pressed my thighs together, instinctively protecting my intimate parts.

"No, I suppose I won't" I grinned back as she taunted me. Like it's my fault I was a man. I finished off the apple and stood up to throw it away.
"Well, I do remember someone saying you'd be a bit scared on your first time. But I would think patrons would be extra careful with us on our debut, they certainly shell out a lot more than normal." I said pragmattically. In the back of my mind, it sounded rather mean of me to refer to both of us as chattle, so I quickly moved on.
"But, I guess it went quite well then. Anything I should know?" I raised an eyebrow.

"Hmmm," I thought, "It's good. Better than in the books," I told him. "It's..."
I sighed, it was difficult to describe.
"It's divine, really."

"Divine. Well, Naamah wouldn't have it any less I suppose." I spied a trash bin nearby and made a nice throw into it. Then I looked around.
"Here, let's go to the Salon where it's more comfortable, and you can tell me all the juicy details.' I gave her a wink. Hopefully, my fellow house mates wouldn't get the wrong impression of me strolling around with another adept.

"Weeeeeeellll." I hadn't really, but I could always think something up. I let the silence hand in the air as we made our way to the Salon. A couple of adepts were chatting with would be patrons, and retainers alike. I guided shona to a blush cushion, and found another for myself, in a secluded corner.
"I'll hold off the mischief for now. In the mean time, you can tell me all about your experiences. As you said, it's not often you get a first hand recounting." I retorted with mirth.

I followed Larquel in the salon, and huddled on the cushions, I started telling him the story.
“He was sweet,” I said. “It was the son of a high noble, and it was his first time as well. I was surprised, very surprised, when the call came and I was picked, but he told me later it was because of the light in my eyes, and the lightness of my skin.”
I paused, and started the tale of the assignation. “He sent a carriage for me, and I was led to a room that was very rich, very opulent. Cloth of gold, raining velvet, it was all beautiful and rich, almost too rich, even for a Bryony. He had me play with him, and for every time I won, I showed him a little more skin…”

I grinned at Shona's story. Sounds like a typical Bryony assignation if I've ever heard of one. I gave a low whistle as she described the room. Sounded way to rich for me. Orchis tastes, like my own, usually included brighter colors, though less varied than say Eglantine, with lots of light, and in many cases music. We hired out several Eglantine lutterres to play for patrons while we made conversation, who usually made a discreet exit before things got personal.
I laughed more at the game. "But, that's a little strange, wouldn't he simply want to lose every hand, knowing the prize he won if you won?" I grinned with an eyebrow.

“Precisely,” I replied with a shrewd grin. “That’s why I was so excited.” I turned my back to him, and said, “You can peek, discreetly, alright?”
Eh – he’d lost every hand, but he wasn’t only playing to see me nude- I was playing for my patron gift, and it had been rather hefty, even after my virgin-price had been paid. I was rather excited – I’d get my marque done soon enough, if I kept this up.
I had no desire to be indentured forever.

I looked around quickly to make sure no one was paying too close attention. "Of course." I said quietly and slyly. I took a peak along her slender back. I might have been aroused if I hadn't known Shona since we were both half the height we are now. With that though, I could begin to see the beginnings of a flower brocade along her spine.
"It's quite beautiful. I can't wait to see it in it's entirety. I wonder what mine will look like also."

“Thank you, Larq. Yours will look lovely as well, no doubt,” I replied sweetly. “Though your patrons may yet wonder what a strange little duckling like you is doing in the night court, really,” I added, teasing, and I stuck a tongue at him.
He knew he was handsome and desirable – besides, he called me an orchis want-to-be, did he not?

"Yeah, well, I'm still young. Give me some time, and I'm sure I'll fill out nicely." I emhasized the remark giving a delicate poke to her breast. It was such a funny idea, I couldn't help myself.
Deeply, I hoped she was right. She strangely had about a half inch above me, but I'd grown several in just the past year. They say that women usually grow quicker than men, so I hoped I'd catch up all the same. In the mean time, it was all I could do to sit there and take my jests with good standing.
Turning the conversation. "So what's next then. Do you have another assignation in the near future, or does Bryony leave you to your own desires now?"

I gave his poking finger a little tap, and wagged a scolding finger.
“Oh, you will,” I said with a promising smile. I poked his tummy in a similar way, and said, “Likely mostly from there, considering your appetite.”
I gave him a look of surprise at his question, “You know that I am still indentured to Bryony, you cad! So no fun, until my marque is made.” I sighed. There were reasons I was motivated to refuse no patron, after all.

I rubbed my stomach at her counter poke. "I'm a growing boy, I need to eat." I said whimsically. I leaned back as she talked more.
"What?" I asked incredulously. "Surely, you didn't find that assignation fun even in the least little bit. Poor baby for you then, if you've had no fun there, it will be a long indenture." I gave a sly wink.
