The carriage ride had been blissfully short, not that I had a problem with sharing it with Leyna; I was just ready to drink my worries away. Leyna wasn't the only one that had an unfulfilling life with a man she thought she loved.
When the carriage stopped I waited for Leyna to exit and then followed suit, stretching a little as I stood on the solid ground.
"Lead the way." I said to her with a smile.

Taking her hand, I led Evangeline inside and straight to the sitting room. Once there, I led her to the well stocked bar.
“What would you like?” I asked. “There’s more wine in the cellar if that’s what you’d prefer.”

It was a little odd to be holding Leyna's hand, or at least a little odd how she took it. But part of me was almost proud of her initiative and I thought; theres hope for you yet.
"This will do I think." I said and pulled out a bottle of brandy. I uncorked it and drank straight from the bottle before passing it to her.

The loneliness and guilt were just too much for me to care about anything right now. I really wanted to be so drunk I couldn’t think.
I took the bottle she offered and drank straight from it as well, twice, before handing it back to her.
Then I took off my shoes undid my hair, tired of feeling constrained.

I smiled as I watched Leyna. "Thats the spirit." I said grinning as I took a long drink myself, and copied her by taking a second before handing it back. "Shall we sit?"

“Yes, but first…” I grabbed another bottle of brandy and then moved to the couch, sitting down and setting the unopened bottle on the table. “So we don’t have to get back up.” I took two more long drinks from the open bottle and offered it to her.

I smiled as I watched her then followed, sitting next to her before I kicked off my slippers and slid my feet up underneath me. "Good idea." I said with a grin as I took the bottle and took a long swig from the bottle and handed it back to her.

“Do you want something to eat?” I asked before taking another drink. I could feel the brandy burning inside me.

I shook my head, feeling my mind almost slosh about as I did, the brandy was working fast and I could feel my body responding; my original answer didn't seem so intelligent. "Uh, you know what, may be we should." I said as I wrinkled my nose.

Turning my head, I called out for one of the maids, I was too drunk already to get up and pull the bell cord.
“What would you like?” I asked Evangeline as we waited.

I shrugged. "Anything... meat, cheese, bread, fruit... seems an oddly fitting combination." I said and then chuckled.

“Yes it does,” I agreed, laughing. One of the maids showed up, I couldn’t remember her name, and I told her what we wanted. She curtseyed and hurried off.
“It will be here soon.”

I waved at the girl as she entered, giving her a little smile and then watched her depart before turning back to Leyna. "So, do you think you and he will ever marry?" I asked curiously.

My mood, which had numbed with brandy, plummeted at her question. I laid my head against back of the couch.
“I don’t know,” I said softly. “It feels like it’s never going to happen.”

I shook my head and looked away. "You're a strange person." I said softly as I took up the bottle and took a long drink of it, then handed it back to her.

I took the bottle and had a long drink. “Why do you say that?” I asked, resting my head on the back of the couch again. “Why is it strange to wait for someone you love?”

I looked at her and shrugged a bit drunkenly. "Because if you wait and it never happens, what will you be then?" I asked. "Resentful? Or in love?" I shrugged again. "Just because you love some one doesn't mean you should give up you're life for them. Do you think that just because you love Nicanor that he is the only person out there that can make you happy?" I asked and turned to her and narrowed my gaze as I looked at her. "You're not even happy! Are you? So what is the point in loving him, in waiting for him?" I asked curiously. "People can say they love you a thousand time, but its there actions that show you who they really are, and its quite obvious that your beloved fiance doesn't give a spit about you or he would have married you when he said he would." I shook my head and lay back against the couch, looking up at the ceiling. "Some one that is so careless for your feelings is certainly not worth the efforts. I could find a hundred men at court that would love you and treat you better," I turned my head to look at her. "And I could guarantee that you'd forget about your fiance pretty soon after finding some one that treats you a hell of a lot better."

The pain in my heart that her words caused cut through the brandy haze. “Get out,” I told her lowly, my voice hard. I stood and looked down at her. “Get out of my house. You have no idea what you are talking about and I will not have you saying such things about me or the man I love. Get out.”
I turned my back to her and moved to the far side of the room. I wrapped my arms around myself to keep the pain from shattering me apart.

I rolled my eyes are her dramatics, she may have been a court darling, but she was still nothing more then a child with naive dreams and wishes; I pitied her and that lout she was in love with. "Gladly." I said as I rose and stumbled toward me slippers, picking them up before moving toward her. "Just ask yourself one thing Princess," I said as I wobbled a little on my feet. "Who is it you're really mad at, me, or the man thats left you to rot." I suggested and then stumbled through the door, wandering drunkenly through the house toward the front door.
I wasn't even sure why I was here, why I had cared enough to follow her home, you try to do something good for some one and this was what you got. I was best off returning to Eglantine House to share a warm bed with the pair from earlier. Let the spoiled Princess stay chaste and crying, I wasn't going to sit around here wasting my time for the likes of her. When I made it to the door, I stumbled out onto the drive, not caring about my bare feet against the ground as I walked, headed in the direction of anywhere but here.

I sank to the floor, sobbing as I heard the door close. She acted like what she was saying was news, like I hadn’t considered any of it. I already knew everything that she’d said.
And now, on top of all the other hurt, there was the pain of losing someone I thought might become a friend. I sagged against the wall, any hope and happiness that I had found in the last few hours vanishing.
