I was still fairly new to the City. Well, all right, completely new. Hopeful that my business at Dorville's would hae a positive turnout, I had gone out to take a look around. After first checking on my mother, who was still happily haggling over the things she wanted to buy, I went out and began to walk down the street, not really sure where I was going.

As my free afternoons were hard to come by, I thought I would combine a bit of business with the chance to be out of doors. The Dowayne wished to do a little redecorating in the entrance hall of Camellia House, so I was out doing some window shopping for things that might be suitable.
Focused on the window of a furniture ship, I was hardly watching where I was going, and bumped into someone. Embarrassed, I turned to apologize. "I'm sorry, " I began, smiling and hoping I hadn't knocked into someone with a bad temper, "I suppose I should have been paying better attention to where I was going."

I instinctively reached out to steady the woman who'd bumped into me. I had to admit that I hadn't been paying as much attention as I should have, so perhaps it was me who bumped into her? Either way, I apologized as well, "I'm sorry." at the same time she did, so that we ended up speaking over each other. That made me chuckle, "I guess I should have been paying attention too, especially to a beautiful woman like you. I'd hate to have accidentally run over you."

I had to laugh as we spoke at the same time, both of us rushing to apologize. "Well, it seems neither of us is being as watchful as we should, hmm?" I said, tucking a stray blond lock behind one ear. "For myself, shopping sometimes takes all of my focus, but I don't believe men get that involved, or am I mistaken and some bauble has quite caught your eye as well?"

I laughed a bit as well, then offered a hand, "Call me Ryahn. And no, it wasn't a bauble that caught my eye. Unless you consider that this City is said to be the crowning jewel of Terre D'Ange." I chuckled again, "No, I just got a bit distracted by all the sights. I've never been here before, so it I'm trying to take it all in."

"Oh, you're new to the City, are you?" As someone who had been born in the City, I could only imagine what it must be like to see it for the first time. I had been bounced back and forth between here and Azzalle often enough as a child, and I still loved that first sight of the City on every return trip. "Have you been here long?"

I nodded, and hoped I didn't look like an ignorant backwoods type. Shaking my head, I almost felt as if I should apologize for being so enraptured by the City. "Only about a day, actually. I had some trouble, got turned around and went to the wrong shop, then had to backtrack. It turned out all right though. And I'm glad we ran into each other."

"Only one day?" I smiled in my friendliest manner. "I can see how you would get turned around then, the City has quite a large amount of shops, and other things besides. I'm glad we ran into each other as well, as I can help you find your next destination." I had only been window-shopping, after all, and was not due back at Camellia until later in the evening, so I could afford to help a newcomer find his way about. Besides, it was in my nature to be helpful, and I could no more leave this young man to his own devices than a mother bear would leave her cub alone in the woods.
"I am Vivienne no Camellia, by the way," I said with a smile, "and you might be?"

I had let my hand drop when it didn't seem like she would shake it, but I raised it again now and restated my name, "Ryahn Debois. A pleasure to meet you, Lady Vivienne. Thank you for your offer, and I really hope I'm not taking you away from anything important." I glanced down the street, thinking, then turned back to her. "I could use some help finding a good place for my mother and I to stay for a few days. I'm not sure just how long we'll be in the City, and a decent boarding house would be nice."

I took his hand and leaned forth, giving him the kiss of greeting on each cheek. "Well met, my lord."
"Hmm," I tapped my finger against my lips, thinking on what would be a good place to stay. "It does somewhat depend upon one's budget." I said, hoping that that was a delicate enough way of phrasing things. It was true, however, as some places would be nicer than others, and as everywhere, money spoke.
"There is a rather nice boarding house in the South Borough, not too expensive, but of a good quality. Or, here in the Artisan's District is the White Hart, which is a bit pricier." There were other places, I knew, but those were the two that popped into my head first, and so those were the ones I mentioned. "I can take you to either, or both, if you like."

I returned her greeting, though I was likely a bit rusty at it. That sort of formal greeting wasn't something I did often. When she leaned away and tapped her lips, my eyes couldn't help but be drawn there. She was quite delicate, at least when compared to me, and very lovely. I had to pull myself away from thoughts of her lips in order to listen to her words, and when she finished with her offer of further help, I smiled and nodded. "I would be most grateful, Lady, as would my mother. And.." I hesitated, "Until I find out for sure whether or not Dorville's will be interested in buying my furniture, perhaps the least costly boarding house would suit us just fine."

"That sounds reasonable." I said with a smile. I glanced around at the busy street, debating the best way to go to show him a bit of the City, rather than simply the fastest way. "Are you in a hurry?" I asked. "If you're not, we can take the scenic route and I can show you around the City a bit." I had to admit, I loved seeing the City through the eyes of a newcomer; I felt it kept me from becoming jaded.

I glanced back over my shoulder, again looking to see if Mother had finished shopping. I still didn't see her, so I turned back to Lady Vivienne and shook my head. "I don't mind taking in a bit of the City. It's amazing." I bowed, and there was a smile on my face when I stood back up. "It would be an honor, having such a lovely tour guide."

I smiled, pleased with the turn of events this day had taken. I took Ryahn's arm with a smile and began to lead him down the street. "Now, did you say that you make furniture?" I asked, interested. I had the artistic talent of a lump of coal, and yet I loved every form of art, be it music, painting, or even furniture-making, which to my mind was a type of art; after all, one was creating something where before there was only sticks of wood.

I smiled back as she looped her arm through mine, and as we walked down the street, I nodded. "I do, and it's something I very much love to do. I'll even go so far as to say I'm good at it. Certainly Luc thought so. And the other people who have bought things I've made."

"I should love to see some of your work." I said, as we walked. "And you should always do something you love, don't you think? I can't imagine how miserable it would be to get up everyday and go do something you hate."

I smiled again, then looked down at her, before glancing back at the shop that held my work. "It's not too late to go back and have a look if you want. Mother will probably be shopping for a while yet, so finding a boarding house isn't a pressing issue."

"Oh, that's a wonderful idea." I said, turning back toward the furniture store. "In fact, my Dowayne sent me out to get some ideas for redecorating, so perhaps I shall see something that inspires me." I looked at the buildings in front of us. "Was it Dorval's you were in?"

I smiled and turned back as well, then nodded, "Well, it seems I'm full of good ideas today. Yes, Dorville's. In fact, some of my own work is in the back, and I'm sure Luc wouldn't mind if I showed it to you."

"Dorville's." I repeated, laughing softly. "I'm terrible with names, I confess. I am much more likely to say 'oh, that furniture store next to the tea shoppe' and hope that whomever I'm speaking to knows which one I mean."
We were close enough to the shop that it was only a few steps away, and as we took those steps, I nodded. "Oh, I'm sure he wouldn't." Not that I knew the man, but then, why should he mind a potential customer?

I chuckled as well, then led her back toward Dorville's, glad my suggestion had been met with acceptance.

I was already thinking over what type of furniture we might potentially need in the entryway of Camellia as we backtracked a bit to the store. "Now, you said you have only been here one day, where have you come from, if you don't mind me asking?" I said, turning the subject a bit, my curiousity piqued.
