Name: Demetrius nó Mandrake
Age: 24
Race (Lineage Origin): d’Angeline (Kusheline, 1/8th Shahrizai)
Gender: Male
Height: 6'1”
Home Province/Country: L'Agnace
Appearance:
Demetrius is tall, dark and handsome, though his eyes are a little startling due to the clarity of the crystalline blue hue that they have. His hair is a dark, chestnut brown, bordering on black, shaggy and straight and has been kept long though he more often cuts it to shoulder length for ease. He always has a look of seriousness on his face, though he has been the creator of many a prank in his younger years. This is what makes them so easy for him to accomplish -- he is able to keep a stern face and a firm hand in all situations, and, when angered, if looks could kill, the glare he flashes would be lethal. However, when he smiles, it is almost intoxicating, alluring and enticing and very hard to resist. His body is well built, lithe and muscular and hard all over as he takes pride in his appearance and does all in his power to maintain a standard he has set for himself.
History:
Demetrius is the second son of Joaquin and Evandrielle Goalin. Joaquin, who's birthname was Joaquin Shahrizai, was the son of Dextrius Shahrizai and Apolonette Goalin, making him half Shahrizai. His father was an angry man, abusive to his wife and children, a drunkard, and a biggot. Even though his father had "sullied the bloodline", he did not want the same for his son, and in fact threatened him should he take anything other than a Shahrizai woman for his bride, expecting him to "right the wrongs" he had committed in being seduced by Apolonette. So, needless to say when Joaquin fell in love with Evandrielle, a girl having not an ounce of Shahrizai blood in her lineage, Joaquin was disowned by his father, though still loved by his mother, which made him take on her name.
Tossed out at the age of 20 with absolutely nothing, and with Evandrielle being one daughter of many in her family, the two made their way on love and Joaquin's mother's connections that she still held in Kusheth, having had a very influential and rather noble family before her marriage to Dextrius. Joaquin's grandfather on his mother's side had set the two up with a small family home, an old cottage, that was not very much but enough for them to start their life on as they soon thereafter became husband and wife.
Joaquin learned carpentry first and foremost, not having anything but the land and vast amount of trees around them to fix up the crumbling cottage they called home, and soon became rather well known throughout Kusheth for his honest and skilled work. Soon they had their first son, Jett, born the male version of the spitting image of his mother with light brown hair and hazel eyes. He was kind and quiet, caring of all things around him, and loved dearly by his parents. Their second child was born a year later, and named Demetrius. His hair was far darker, skin paler, and eyes a very clear light blue. His features showed the Shahrizai that shined through from his father's lineage, and that was not all that was obvious of it. At a young age his mother and father realised that Demetrius had more the emotional and personality traits of a Shahrizai. He was calculated, and very bright, applying it well in manipulating his older brother and the very few kids that grew up in the neighbouring vicinities of their cottage home. He was cruel, but not ever without reason, and should he not have a reason for when he wanted to be, there would be an easy way to devise one. Demetrius doled out punishment for wrongs committed unto him without taking them as he should have, to an elder, in his mind emulating Kushiel. Seeing these traits in him, his mother and father took him to Mandrake House and the Dowayne there, explaining that mayhap the House might be able to hone his abilities and nature so that it might be of use to them, and less harmful to society should he grow up unchecked and untaught in the ways. They did not wish to let him foster with Shahrizai kin. The Dowayne saw the merit in him and decided to take him in.
In Mandrake House he was taught and watched carefully. He grew into his skin with more grace and ease than most, learning the fine line to dance between cruelty, dominance, and fairness. He quickly became a favourite for assignations, especially by wealthy businessmen and dignetaries. Patrons often tell the Dowayne how, in his presence, it is as though they have no choice but to submit to him, sensing something in him that forces that train out of them and into use.
Demetrius, studious, intelligent and driven, gained his marque by the age of 20 and stayed in Mandrake House. Although many thought he could amount to great things outside of the service, he never thought to leave, making Mandrake House and his life there the only life he had ever and would ever know. Other adepts thought it foolish and a fault, and even the Dowayne thought he should find something to keep himself busy, but he was dedicated to the life of an adept, and wanted naught else.
The Dowayne named him as Second when he was 21.
Now he is 24 and single, with no intentions of leaving the House that took him in as a young, insolent child with far too much power and influence over others. He never felt bitter or angry towards his parents, but moreso thankful, having seen and known some of the people he could have ended up being had he not been brought to Mandrake House and pointed in the right direction. Not many know of his Shahrizai heritage, though many guess at it. It is a sore spot for him, something he does not like discussing, finding shame in the name, even though it is that which has given him the talent and gift to succeed as an adept in Mandrake House. He takes on a natural dislike to other Shahrizai, and that is the part of himself that he struggles with the most. Even as he loves himself, and is comfortable in his own skin, he does not wish to associate with his brood, taking after his father in that respect. Those who know him well know that if they wish to anger him, bringing up the topic of his heritage is one surefire way of accomplishing this. And when he is well and truly angry, to the core, the vindictive side of his nature, that which he had learned to keep at a minimum, comes to full display and no one should get in his path, and that which has angered him had better run long, hard, and far to sidestep his wrath.
