Name: Cannelle nó Heliotrope, Second of Heliotrope
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Height: 5’9
Race: D’Angeline
Home Province: L’Agnace
Appearance: Born with a gentle mix of strawberry blonde and ginger hair, Cannelle usually keeps it in a single pony tail as it lays better as such due to its natural straightness. Her almond eyes are a calming blue grey, often more blue then grey, only turning greyer when she is ill. She has an average frame, slender with gentle curves, neither overly thin nor muscular. Cannelle is most self conscious about her height; something she was teased about as a child.
History: Cannelle’s lineage has always been made of proud adepts. Most of her ascendants have come from Dahlia, Cereus, or Camellia. Her mother Clarisse was born to play the part of Dahlia, coming from a mother and father of Camellia and Cereus respectively.
Like most of the members of her family, Clarisse took service to Namaah very seriously. A fine upstanding Dahlia adept, when she reached her 20th natal her mother suggested a match between Clarisse and one of her mother’s former students. At first, Cannelle’s mother was unsure, but after consulting with her Dowayne and a Priestess of Namaah, she decided to agree to the union. Clarisse liked François; shy at first, the pair soon spent more and more time together and decided that there was enough love between them that the match would be suitable. For a year and a half the pair courted, getting to know each other before then decided to make things official. They wed in a simple ceremony and Clarisse lit her candle soon after. It was at the annual Midwinter Masque that Clarisse’s world changed. At a random encounter, a random moment, a random dance, she met a dark haired stranger. Within that random moment, she truly understood what passion, lust, and love were, and even though is was only a single dance shared, she was enthralled.
She tried not to think about him, but to no avail, and seemed only too eager to intervene. Another random moment in Nights Doorstep where they met once more, only to find themselves pressed against a brick wall in a back alley. Two months later Clarisse discovered she was with child. Her excitement was marred by the absolute knowledge that the child was not her husbands. During her sixth month was when she discovered the identity of the stranger; he was a Mandrake. The knowledge burned her in a way that would change the person she was, subsequently changing her relationship with François. She never spoke her secret to anyone though; the child would come to look much like her mother, raising no one’s suspicions. But her love with François changed, and in so doing, they saw each other less and less till he became an infrequent visitor in his daughter’s life. Clarisse both loathed and loved the secret she kept, the knowledge of the sensual stranger, the intense passion and love she had discovered in being with him that single night, it felt wrong and right at the same time. When her daughter was born she named her Cannelle, partly due to her gentle ginger colouring, and partly as a reminder of whom the child was conceived from.
Cannelle was a relatively normal child, good at her classes and kind to the others. By the time she was six though, it was fairly obvious that she would not do as an adept of Dahlia. Though she was indeed beautiful, Camellia deemed her too ordinary for their cannon. It was decided that she would foster at Cereus since she seemed unfitting to the other two houses her family wished her to foster at. She did well at Cereus, but neither her mother nor the Dowayne of Cereus thought she would fit in. Clarisse knew exactly why her daughter didn’t fit into any of the houses they thought she should fit into. It was at seven years old that Clarisse found her daughter reading a secret hoard of romantic novels. For the first time, Clarisse began to recognize her daughter’s deeply devoted and romantic side. A few weeks later the pair went and visited the Dowayne of Heliotrope.
From that day forward Cannelle was at home; she thrived, reaching the top of her classes and staying there. At ten she was dedicated into service, and at sixteen she made her debut. Her first few years of service saw only a few steady patrons, leaving Cannelle to lag behind her fellow peers. In her eighteenth year, she fell in love with one of her patrons, and though it seemed as if a perfect match and that he would ask for her hand, it ended badly leaving her in heart break. Ironically though, it was the best thing that could have happened, after taking two months off, Cannelle returned even stronger to her service garnering acclaim by any and all that met her. She soon became one of the most popular adepts in her house and by her 22nd natal she had made her marque. It was an easy choice by the Dowayne, Cannelle was made Second of her house at twenty three and has enjoyed the post ever since.
Cannelle is still very close with her mother, seeing her as often as possible and making her a frequent visitor at Dahlia. She has many cousins at the Night Court, so she is often seen at Cereus as well, but rarely at Camellia as her relationship with her “father” is strained.
Personality: Cannelle seems to be of two minds and two personas. To her patrons she is a little more reserved, more likely to blush or shy away, focusing more on pleasure and devotion then anything else. In private, around her friends she is much more open and exuberant, jesting and teasing. To most she is like a big sister, always eager to help, a reliable listener, she is considered by many to be an excellent Second. When Cannelle is upset with some one, she can often be cold and some would even consider her haughty, a trait most likely inherited from her mother. Her worst trait is most likely her day dreaminess, often loosing thought and causing her to get distracted easily. That and she bites her nails when nervous, a habit her mother tried desperately to break. Cannelle has one nickname, and it is only used by those that she is intimately close with. Only her mother, grandfather, and cousin Benoit call her ‘Ellie’.
