"My instructors mostly, I took instruction from them about as well as I had my parents. Though I finally realized I had to calm myself at least a little if I wanted any life at Mandrake. Even we have to obey people at some point."
The park had a small intrance, only a couple could really walk through it at the same time. It was made to be secluded by whomever designed it in the first place.

"I imagine that would be hard. I've never really taken orders well, even though most of the time I had no choice in the matter."
Looking around the park, I smiled. "This is lovely. I never would have known it was here."

"Yes, unfortuntaly there always seems to be someone who can tell you what to do. Though at least now I have some weight against the house since they don't own my marque, and haven't for quite some time. I still bring in enough money to make them want to keep me." I sighed, living in reality for a moment, and added, "though one of these days I'm not going to be so young any more and will need something else. I am lucky that I look younger than I am, since many patrons prefer younger adepts."
I sat down by a large tree that looked as if it had been around since the creation of Terre d'Ange, "I hope that the grass is ok," I told Mala, "I didn't think enough to bring a blanket."

"I don't know," I told her, "which is the main reason I haven't left. I could always return home and try to steal back my birth right, but I don't know if I want to be tied down to an estate either. It wouldn't be worth much to me with my parents still alive anyways."
I could never see me opening up a small shop of any sort. I could maybe open a pleasure house of my own, but then I would have to hire people and I like being able to just do things on my own.
I tossed a piece of cheese in my mouth than shrugged slightly, "I guess I'm stuck at the house until something of interest shows up. At least I can pretty much leave when I want."

"That my dear is very true," I said in agreement. I then took out the bottle of wine and the glasses that Cossette had supplied us. I poored poured two glasses, offering one too Mala with a motion of my hand. "Would you like a glass?"

I could not help but to be impressed with Mala's indulgence. I followed her suit, taking a large drink myself. I then held what was left in my glass up and said, "at toast to freedom, even if we specialize in taking it from others."

I emptied my glass and then poured me another one. I offered to pour Mala another drink as well.
I did not actually know a whole lot about Mala, espcially her past. So, I asked, mainly out of curiosity, "did you grow up in Terre d'Ange or elsewhere?"

Shaking my head no to more wine, I set my glass down, plucked a chocolate from the basket and laid back, stretching out on the grass.
"In Terra d'Ange," I answered. "Mostly on a rather remote Shahrizai estate with my great uncle and brother."

I finished my second glass of wine and put down the glass.
"I don't know where exactly I'd travel to, though Kusheth has always had a little bit of an appeal. I think I would like to visit a temple for Kushiel in his land."
I thought for a moment than added, "Tiberium would hold many interesting things and some of their teachings may be of benifit, though I've never had much patience for large amounts of pointless thoughts."

I caught Mala's fingers in mine for a moment than fanned my fingers, letting them go. She had a powerful touch, that was for sure. If I had felt there was any bit of a submissive in her I would have taken her then, but I knew better.
Instead I smiled and said, "I am glad I was able to distract you from whatever ails you. You know where I stay, you are always welcome to come and catch me up out of there. I do enjoy my work at Mandrake, but its still good to get away from it for a bit."

"You have a standing invitation to come see me as well," I told him, smiling. There would be no real way to express to Idaeus what he had done for me today. He had reminded me who I was, whose blood coursed pure and strong in my veins. So close, I had been so close to just giving up and disappearing from all this. The life I had known for so long had been ripped from me, but now it was time to create a new one.
"I told someone today that I had no friends, but I was wrong," I said, raising myself up so that my eyes were on level with his. "You are something unique to me, Idaeus, a friend and for that I will be eternally grateful." Leaning in, I kissed his cheek softly.

I was glad to hear Malabelle refear to me as a friend. I felt a certain amount of loyalty toward her, though I didn't know if I was ready for it. I had been on my own so long wihtout a care for no one it was a bit strange.
"I am glad to be a friend, both in general and more so when one is needed." I leaned forward, draping my arms over my knees in the position I had been sitting. "I only hope that I will not disappoint. It will a bit unorthadox to have a friend such as me. One who does not seem to keep them well and seems to be a bit dark, even for Mandrake."

Laughing, I stood up and began dusting the grass from my dress. "I think I am the one who is the odd friend," I told him, smiling. "And I am hardly orthodox, so you are the perfect friend for me."
Somehow it had grown later than I realized, and there was something I needed to take care of before dark.
"I have to go soon," I told him. "I can find my way back if you'd like to stay and enjoy the peace here."

I stood up as she started to say that she had to go, "no, I should probably head back too." I gathered the few picnic things that we had and said, "besides, I should sneak this wine into my room before the Dowayne's little spies get bored and start wondering about Mandrake."

I made my arm available for her to take and easily walked into pace with her.
I smiled mischevously at Mala, "I would be tempted to take you up on your offer. I would be lying if I said the thought hasn't crossed me to do so myself. It would almost be more satisfying than a random patron."

I laughed at Mala's description. "We definitely have a few, the sad part about it is that they are often the least chosen adepts. Their overly exaggeratied self image prohibits them from bettering themself. You would think that they'd realize something was wrong when some of the younger adepts where surpasing them in their marques."

I could see Mandrake approaching, and sighed deeply inwardly. As much as I needed to tend to things, I was sad to be leaving Idaeus.
"Those are probably the adepts who blame everyone else and never see the error of their ways," I replied, smiling. "They should b forced to spend a year at Valerian and let the likes of us teach them their place."

"You are probably correct in that," I told her as we approached Mandrake. For a moment I was loathed to see the house, knowing that the day with Mala will end and I would be forced back to the meaningless every day. I pushed the feelings asside and continued to the door. I stopped and turned toward Mala, "I will tell the Dowayne of your wonderful suggestion. If anything, just to see the look on her face."

"The feelings are mutual," I told her as she leaned in to kiss my cheek. I quickly returned the kiss than watched as she walked to her carrage and left. Sighing I turned around, and walked around to the back of the house. I skipped any unwanted encounters and returned our lunch supplies, minus the chapagne to the cook.
