It had been ages, really, since I had seen and spent time with my sister. Part of it had been due to my apprenticeship and other projects I had been working on, but I would be an inconsiderate and heartless fool to not admit that I had been spending a lot of time with a certain girl as well... Sophine, and I felt the nagging guilt of it weighing down on me. Josette might be more understanding than most women I had known, far more understanding, but I was not one to take advantage of something like that, such a good trait in a human being, and I had found myself doing just that.
So, in hopes to make amends, and to have a bit of fun with my little sister, I had invited her out to do a bit of shopping. I had made a rather large commission hand crafting a set of double doors for a Shahrizai baron who paid well, and so I thought a day out in the City would be a nice treat for her. Dressed in white linen breeches and a white tunic to match, I had called around the carriage for us and bid it take us to the Palace District in the City proper.
Upon arrival and sitting across from Josie, I smiled.
"We're here!" I exclaimed, clapping my hands as the driver opened the carriage door. I knew that it might be a tough task to win her back over, but I knew she knew my heart was always in the right place.

I had been utterly delighted when Luc invited me to go out shopping with him. As much as I was enjoying exploring the City, I missed him. I knew he had duties with his work, but I had been beginning to feel the void of seeing much of him. He and I had always been so close; I missed seeing him more than any of the rest of my family.
I’d donned a dress of deep green and braided my hair, hoping to look a little more presentable and making an effort to show Luc how much I appreciated him taking me out.
“Indeed we are,” I said with a laugh, my own enthusiasm matching his.

She had always been beautiful, my little sister, and it was no doubt why way men fawned over her, but I felt like she was fair glowing with this little expedition, and that made my heart sing. Hopping out of the carriage quickly, my coin purse heavy and jangling, I bowed low and offered her my hand. "My fair lady," I said with a bright smile, looking up as I awaited her.

I couldn’t help but giggle, memories of Luc and I playing at being royalty when we were little coming to mind.
“Thank you, my lord,” I said, taking his hand and descending from the carriage with as much grace as possible.

I smiled as she dismounted to step lightly on the ground. For all that we were playing at being high nobility, I picked her up, wrapping my arms around her hips and swung her effortlessly before setting her back down on the ground with a hearty chuckle.
"Oh Josie, I have missed you so very much," I said with a pout, a genuine one.

“I’ve missed you too Luc,” I said, smiling affectionately up at him. “It’s hard being the little sister of the busiest most popular man in all the city.”

I stuck my tongue out then, offering her my arm. "I wouldn't say the most popular," I said with a smile, though I looked at my feet. "Mayhap one of the busiest, though," I said bringing my gaze back to her face. I reached forward and tucked a lock behind her ear. "But this day is all about catching up, and you Josie."

“I like days like that,” I said with a smile, taking his arm. “Where to first?”

I smiled and laughed softly as she took my arm and then looked about us. We were in the Palace District, and there were tons of places to go.
"Well, did you wish to eat first? Or would you prefer to delve right into the shopping?" I asked with a smile. I had been around here earlier this week, planning ahead like I always do, and had been to see some of the different shoppes and figured on some places she might like to go.

“Shopping,” I said without having to think twice. “We can eat later when you need a break from carrying all my packages.” I grinned at him, teasing. It was so nice to be out here with Luc all to myself, I really had missed him so.

"Dresses, trinkets, accessories, jewels," I said, laying out the options with the quick raising and lowering of both my brows.

I tilted my head slightly as I thought.
“Jewelry,” I said, smiling. “I’d like an anklet.”

"Ah," I said with a smile. "I think you would like Boileau's. They are a little different than the ordinary," I offered. "But it is a little bit farther than just around the corner. Shall we head for it then?" I asked. It would give us time to do a bit of catching up.

“Sounds wonderful,” I agreed with a nod. “I haven’t spent a terrible lot of time here, it’ll be nice to look around.” I thought about the last time I’d been here, when I’d met Jean and my smile turned a little wry.

I noticed the smile on her face, it belied to somewhat else and I raised both of my brows.
"So dearest sister, only sister at that, tell me something new," like what put that little smile on your face I thought to myself, though only quirked a brow.

“Something new?” I echoed. I knew my brother and knew what he was getting at. He’d seen my smile and wanted to know why. I wasn’t going to spill my secrets that easily, he would have to work a little harder. He had lost time to make up for. “Nothing. I’ve just been sitting at home, pining for time with you.” I laughed and squeezed his arm. “What’s new with you?”

She was holding back, and the little game made me smile. Rightfully so. But I would get the information, with promises of course not to break the fellows beautiful face.
"Well... there's work, lots of new clients and items I am learning to make, a girl," I said, raising my brow for a fraction of a second before nonchalantly moving on. "more work, and apparently too many fetes to count," I said with a chuckle.

“What’s her name?” I asked, though I had an idea. My brother wasn’t exactly the smooth courtier, I knew who he’d been seen with….a lot.

I laughed as she picked out the one thing that didn't fit in that list, or that stood out like a sore thumb. "Well... her name is Sophine...," I said, lowering my voice a bit but still with a soft smile. "I think you'd like her... well... maybe.... I would hope so anyways. But... I mean it's not terribly serious as yet," I said then laughed, running a hand through my hair as I realised I was stammering like an idiot. "Anyways, her name is Sophine. We went to her natale."

“Not terribly serious, but still serious,” I said, looking at him from the corner of my eye as we walked. “This is awfully quick isn’t it Luc?”

"Well... not really. I mean we aren't courting or anything," I scoffed with a playful smile, "I just enjoy her company a great deal. And I am easy around her," I explained as we walked arm in arm. "I am certainly not about to put a ring on her finger. It is not even an option as yet," I said with a laugh.

I turned my head so I could look at him as he spoke. My teasing manner was gone. I was worried. We’d not been here all that long and he already seemed so serious with this girl. I wanted my brother to be happy, but I was afraid he was falling for the first girl in the city to show him any attention.
“But you’ve thought about it,” I said, my voice concerned. “Enough to know it’s not something you want right now, but it’s crossed your mind.”

She turned to me and I could see the worry in her face, plain as day, and frowned. This wasn't supposed to end up about me. And it certainly wasn't supposed to invoke any worrisome feelings. I patted her hand. "No. Not like that. With other girls I've been with, I enjoy their company, I just enjoy hers the most as of yet. I don't plan on wifing anyone for a very, very, very long time. And of course the idea is in the back of my head, as I am sure mother and father wouldn't mind having one less son to worry about," I said with a laugh. "But I am here for fun first and foremost. Especially since we've barely been here for the summer months! Could you think of me hankering down before tasting the wares at the winter fetes?" I said with a laugh, winking at her.

I frowned when he mentioned moth and father being glad to be rid of a son. Our parents loved our big family and never once complained about the size of it. I didn’t like that he was joking about it in such a manner.
“No, but I couldn’t have imagined you already so committed to one girl either,” I said, looking forward again.

"Oh Josie, I promise no commitment has been made, my dearest and only sister," I murmured, with a frown. I had upset her and it was the last thing I wanted to do. "I just enjoy her company, and she enjoys mine, and so we spend time together. If you know of someone you might want to introduce to me," I said with a wry smile, "I would be more than happy to meet her."

“Have you been with anyone else since you met her?” I asked, glancing at the windows of the stores as we past them and not at him.

"Well there was someone before her," I said with a sheepis smile thinking about Raegan. She was sweet, very reserved, but she had a fire in her, and a nature that did intrigue me. "But... I don't know what to do," I said softly. It was true, I wanted to see her again, but I know that she had seen me and Sophine together a lot, and I didn't know how to redeem myself from that. If anyone would know, it would be my sister.

“Someone before, but no one since?” I commented. “You are committed Luc.” I made myself look at him. “This other girl, have you even seen her since you met Sophine? Talked to her or anything?”
I was wishing we were home, anywhere but here in public. Today was turning out to have been a bad idea. I had thought I was going to get to spend time with my brother and it felt more like I was with someone I hardly knew.

"No," I said as I listened to her worrisome words. I was confused as to why she was so worried. "I want to but she has seen me and Sophine around together a bit and I don't know what to say to her. I figured she probably just... wouldn't want to speak to me now anyways. I want to talk to her again, to see her again, but I dont know how. Plus it seemed like she might have been looking for more than just a casual dalliance... I don't really know," I said, my voice trailing off. "Other than that I haven't found someone to pursue. There was an adept who had some promise but, that never came to head," I explained as I thought on Sophine's friend Sandrine.

Stopping, I pulled my arm away from his and turned to look at him.
“What are you doing Luc? You’ve never been like this. I feel like I don’t know you,” I said. “Insinuating our parents want to be rid of you, just leaving a girl because she might want something more and not even talking to her about it, then committing to someone else for so long. You have never been cruel or callous, never been one to be taken in by a pretty face. You are smart and clever and kind. You’re going to get your heart broken or worse, and I don’t know what got you here.”
