Post by Khepri nó Dahlia(I) on Mar 7, 2009 12:34:16 GMT -5
Name: Khepri nó Dahlia
Age: Twenty years old
Height: Five feet seven inches
Race(s): D’Angeline (Kusheline)/Menekhetan
Home province: L’Agnace, City of Elua, Mont Nuit
Appearance:
There is a constant, and burning determination in every feature of Khepri’s exotic appearance. Golden eyes give away a fierceness, that the calm lines of her dark brows and lips try to mask. The only Kusheline traits she has inherited are her creamy complexion, the luxuriously dark hair that forms natural waves down her back, and perhaps a certain level of fierce passion found in the Kusheline bloodline. She carries herself in a dignified manner, but to anyone perceptive enough, she gives the impression that she’s holding back a wildly exotic nature. Khepri usually dresses in pale colors, to bring out the deep color of her hair and the golden flames that are her eyes. It is a surprise to anyone that she is not of Jasmine House.
History:
Khepri would never willingly admit how conventional her story is - how she came into this life at the Night Court. Like every young adept, she always longed for the adventures beautifully detailed in Thelesis de Mornay’s poetry. She would never admit to that longing either, for she has always been humbly grateful for her place in the Court of Night Blooming Flowers. Nevertheless, her story is similar to almost every Servant of Naamah. Almost.
Her mother, sold into the Night Court as a babe, was fresh off the boat from Menekhet. Named ‘Eshe,’ she was clearly destined for Jasmine House. Raised in the house of exotic flowers, most of what she learned was about the land she had never truly known. At the age of eighteen she fell in love with a patron from Kusheth. Khepri’s mother had never revealed much information about her father. Only that he was a minor lord of Kusheth - a third son of a third son. Unable to support a Servant of Naamah and their beautiful child, he moved on to marry into a wealthy family. Devastated, Eshe bore his child and continued her life in the Night Court. No matter how many times Khepri demanded her father’s name, her mother would remain silent. Eshe was an unmoving mountain of dignity - one of the many traits Khepri seemed to inherit.
Born on a beautiful Autumn morning she was given the name Khepri, meaning ‘morning sun’ in the language of Menekhet. Immediately after Khepri was born into the Night Court, the Dowayne of Jasmine House swept her up and raised her while her mother worked to complete her marque and open up a exotic trade shop in Mont Nuit. From a young age Khepri found an interest in languages, and specialized in both Menekhetan and the language of Jebe-Barkal. As often as she could manage to visit her mother, she would practice by conversing with tradesmen of both regions that would do business at the shop. Other interests included dance and the martial arts of Menekhet. Many frowned upon her learning such a violent art form, but bull-headed to the core, she insisted she learn for defensive purposes. She was destined for the house of exotic flowers just as her mother had been - and this she had always resented. She truly loved the culture and arts of her mother’s people, and was not willing to flaunt her exotic heritage for the sake of another’s pleasure. When it came time for a House to adopt her on her 10th birthday, it was clear that she was too proud of her background to uphold Jasmine’s canon, ‘for pleasure’s sake.’ Pride and dignity burned with fervor in her golden eyes, as she reasoned with the Dowayne of Jasmine House. And so she was accepted into Dahlia House with open arms, where she hoped to bring a bit of dignity back to her heritage. Upright and unbending.
Recently, Khepri has found it very difficult to remain upright. The plague that has swept over the city, claimed her mother’s life. Of all the people that have surrounded her, her entire life... her mother was usually in the background, making a living for herself. Eshe never married, after the heart-break she felt over the man that had left her with child. She loved her daughter very much, but had a business to run. Business came first. And still, Khepri had always respected and loved her mother more than anyone. And now she was gone. The shop was left to her, but with an eighth of her marque incomplete, she is still bound to Dahlia House. Now determined to complete her marque as quickly as possible, Khepri cannot wait to re-open the exotics shop that her beloved mother had built from nothing.
