Second week of autumn, Year One of Queen Sabrina's reign
Jareth and I had been to two jewelers before arriving at Boileau's. I dearly hoped we could find something here, for it was my natale, and I wished to visit Eisheth's sanctuary before the day was out. I was greatly looking forward to conceiving our heirs.
"Think we'll have any luck here?" I asked Jareth as we entered the boutique. I knew that I was probably being too picky, but I wanted my ring to be perfect.

The ring shopping excursion with Ana was pleasant though as is ever the case women tend to be more particular than men. I have found in fact that men are rather utilitarian in our desires and needs. I am also old enough and wise enough to not voice such ideas while in the presence of a lady let alone one with a propensity for skill with sharp objects and that I sleep soundly next to. Thus I gave her a heart felt smile filled with amusement as her words invaded my thoughts “Of course not Ana. It is only fitting that you wish to find one that suits you to perfection.”

I looked at him with affection. "Thank you for your patience darling," I told him with a smile before turning my attention to the glittering jewelry behind the glass.

“Your welcome” I peered over her shoulder while one of the shop keepers waited our pleasure off to the side in an unobtrusive fashion. “Do you see anything that strikes your fancy?”

"Not yet," I murmured, moving down the case. I moved slowly, but I didn't stop, not until I reached a collection of pieces set with sapphire. The gem had caught my eye at the other boutiques as well, but nothing had been quite right. But the rings here were less flashy, smaller gems but sophisticated. I waved the shop-keep over and he opened the case for me with a delicate key. I spent a few moment holding the various rings up to the light, and sliding a select few onto my finger. Finally I paused with a gold band resting around my ring finger, set with a single square cut sapphire and diamonds framing it. The gold was lightly engraved in a leaf pattern. It wasn't extravagant, but the more I studied it, the more... right it felt. "Love, what do you think?"

I watched as she seemed drawn to sapphires which I found a bit on the amusing side considering the cast of her legendary family eyes. The gems and the eyes rather complimented one another and this in turn made me wonder if she had been drawn in such a way by instinct or consideration of style. I smiled a bit and nodded “It suits your eyes even though it is not a conventional choice for an engagement ring. But then again I reckon we are not terribly conventional.”

I chuckled. "I don't care if sapphires aren't conventional, they're my favourite," I told him with a smile. Then I turned to the shopkeeper, hovering a discrete distance away. A short conversation told me that while there was no matching wedding band, one could be made with the same pattern as the band of the engagement ring.
"Well love, I've finally found something. Now what are we going to do for you?" I asked, my grin half teasing and half satisfied.

After Anacrasia had her conversation I simply deposited a bag of coins on the counter top to cover the costs. I crinkled my nose a bit at her question and responded “Oddly enough a bad for one of my nature and profession might prove more difficult than for you. You see jewelry tends to get caught on things when one works with their hands or at arms. Best case you simply loose your band if it catches. Worst case it takes the finger with it.”

"Yes love, you mentioned that already," I replied patiently. "But you are getting a ring, because I have to put something around your finger on our wedding day. But we'll get you a chain as well, so you can wear it around your neck and still keep all your fingers."

I laughed at my own expense “Ok so I am repeating myself they say the mind is the first thing that goes with age.” I then made a rather quick decision “I like white gold and not a lot of adornment.”

"Good, for a moment I thought you were going to tell me that you didn't want a ring at all," I replied with a wry smile. Then I let the shopkeeper lead us over to the men's section, and I began to look over the rings they had. "Something like that?" I asked, pointing out a squarish ring in white gold with two small diamonds set on one side.

“Hmmm” I picked up the ring she pointed out and turned it over in my hand examining it. “A bit bulky for my tastes actually.” I looked up at the shop keeper and asked “Do you have anything of a similar design but with a thinner band? Shape is about right and I like the white gold I suspect I would prefer something a bit thinner though.”

While the shopkeeper rummaged around, I commented to Jareth, "There are also lots of other shapes to chose from. And stones. I won't be hurt if you don't like my suggestion." I smiled teasingly. "Here is the one I was looking for," the shopkeeper said, bringing our attention back to him. He had brought a similar ring though with a slimmer silhouette. It was set with more stone than the first, but I didn't bat an eye. This was not a gift I wished to be cheap with. If Jareth liked it, it was his.

I smiled a bit “I honestly do not know considering that jewelry is not something I really tend to think about.” It was true after all I was not one of the preening peacocks one tended to see gathering around court. I accepted the shop keeper’s next selection and turned it over in my hand. It was of nice shape and did not have a lot of bulk. In short it would do nicely thus I sat it on the counter and nodded “I think this one will do just fine.”

"Just fine?" I asked, not knowing whether to pout or laugh. I shouldn't pout, because I knew this wasn't as important to him as it was to me. So I said something to tease us both. "Couldn't you at least try for a little enthusiasm love?" It was going to be a symbol of our union after all.

Ah women, even when it came to Anacrasia the sexes just were not the same in views. And I -knew- I would pay for the words I was about to utter but the devil in me made me do it. Besides I would most likely bore her to death if I was completely house broken in short order. Thus I gave her my best angelic smile and leaned in to whisper in her ear “I am excited love but I was saving the bulk of my enthusiasm for when we pick out your honeymoon attire or lack there of.”

I let out my breath in a huff of frustration. "You are such a man," I said, but I was smiling as I said it. If it had been anyone else, I would have done something vicious. But Jareth always made me want to smile more than anything else. Perhaps it was that whole being in love thing. Damn. "Tell me a little white lie and say that you like it at least. It would make me feel better."

I chuckled and grinned and then acted as if I were looking down my breeches “Yup, still male despite the fact that you seem to have house broken me.” I then looked up and added “And of course I like it otherwise I would have never said it would do.” I shrugged “I -am- a man and my lack of abilities at disinformation would not allow me to construct a passable deception if I did not like it.”

"But you didn't say that you liked it. Fine is a polite way of saying that you think it's the worst ring in the store," I tried to explain. Then I gave up, shaking my head with a smile. "Never mind love. We'll take it," I said to the shopkeeper, putting one of my purses on the counter and then fetching a note for the merchant to give to my factor.
Jareth's ring was soon wrapped up, and as soon as I had it tucked away, I batted my eyes teasingly. "Will you slip my ring on me, my very manly man?" I asked, holding out my hand helpfully.

I mildly watched the fellow wrap up my ring and shook my head “Uh no fine means fine, but then again I suspect it is a language issue. I shall have to get a woman to man language dictionary.” Though I did smile and I picked up her ring while taking her left hand in my left I slipped the ring on her finger before letting my gaze meet hers. “And I reckon this makes us official” I winked and then leaned in and brushed a soft kiss across her lips.

I smiled, immensely happy that the ring didn't have to be resized and that I could wear it right away. It felt... incredibly satisfying. "I reckon it does as well. You made an honest woman out of me," I said with a grin, then leaned in for another kiss. I tried not to get too carried away in front of the shopkeeper, but then again, I was sure he had seen lots of such things before.
"One more stop, and then home," I whispered once our lips had parted again. Gods, I was as near giddy as I had ever been.

I had to tease her a bit more as it was in my nature so I returned her kiss and added “Well as honest as the chief scion of the Shahrizai clan can ever be.” I then simply motioned with my hand when she said we had only one more stop like many men even in Terre d’Ange I was not over ambitious when it came to giving open voice to such matters.

I took his hand and we left the store after a quick thank you to the shopkeeper. My pockets were lighter, but the gold was warm around my finger.
