It had been far too long since I had been to the market, always under the watchful eye of the House. I wanted to be free so badly, to make my marque and start my own salon! Nevertheless, there were still things to make me happy and I was in a mood to find them. Dressed in one of my favorite outfits, a colorful orange, red, and purple skirt layered in the ways of my father's people, a matching top of equally layered and flowing fabric, I was fit to join a kumpania! Only two bangles of painted metal on each wrist, it would be foolish to wear more in the market. Golden hoops adorned my earlobes, my dark locks pulled back, cascading over my shoulders in order to show off my pretty face.
It didn't take long for me to find the sweets, a lovely table set up with all sorts of candies and cakes. Many were intended for sale to take to the temples, but oh how I wanted some for myself! I didn't have enough money to purchase such treats for myself, no, it all went to the marquist, but perhaps I could convince someone to help me in my desire for something sugary.

I had closed the salon for a few hours, feeling the need to get out and drink in some of the City. Well, that and the fact that my cupboards were bare to the point it was beginning to become a problem.
Armed with a sack to put my purchases in, I strolled through stalls, looking for items that would fill my scattered eating habits.

Unable to find someone to satiate my sweet tooth, I leaned against the wall near the stalls and watched for someone I might know. As if I had dreamed him there, my marquist, Messire Kachine, was walking in my direction!
"Messire Kachine!" I called his name, stepping out from the side of the stall and giving him the kiss of greeting. "How are you this day?"

The sound of my name drew my attention and I smiled at the sight of its source.
“Denise,” I said, returning her greeting kiss. “I am well. How are you?”

"A bit tempted by those lovely sweets, but otherwise I am divine," I replied, smoothing my skirts and doing my best to be charming. "Simply awaiting assignations so I may be under your needles once more."
I smiled and nodded to the table of sweets. "Those sweet cakes do look lovely, don't they?"

“Yes they do,” I agreed with a smile. “I’ve some other things to purchase before I can indulge in sweets though.” I chuckled and shook my head a little. “My cupboards are so bare I think the mice as going to start a revolution.”

"Oh my, no one wants a mouse revolution in the cupboards!" I replied with a chuckle, picturing the mice dressed in the clothing of humans, raising tiny swords against Messire Kachine. "It seems I must find more assignations so I may fill your coffers!"
If only there was a way to benefit us both. Unfortunate that I did not hold enough sway to host a fete. "Is there nothing we can to do be able to afford such things in life that we desire?"

I had to chuckle at her words. “Oh, I’ve enough funds to but what I need, I just forget to. I get involved in my work or my art and just forget.”

I blushed at the realization that I had called Darien as poor as I, when surely he must have plenty of funds with which to survive. Bowing my head just slightly I apologized, "I'm sure you are of a much more comfortable status than I, I apologize. It must be difficult being so wholly passionate about your work to forget the simplest things in life!"

“Nothing to apologize for,” I assured her, smiling. “If I didn’t have the funds then at least I’d have a valid reason.” I chuckled. “Would you like to walk with me as I shop or do you have other plans?”

I shook my head just slightly and smiled. "I have no plans for today, I would love to walk with you." I took my place beside him and gestured for us to walk forward. "Onward then! Let us find the most delicious foods to sate your angry rebellious mice!"

“Our quest begins!” I said, smiling and beginning to walk. “So, tell me more about what you’ve up to.”

"In all honesty, I have spent most of my time away," I said, watching the stalls around me with amusement. "You see my mother and father came to Orchis House and purchased a great deal of my time, trading some horses so that I could go with my father's kumpania to Kusheth. While it was most definitely an exciting adventure, I am glad to be home."
I smiled softly. "I missed seeing patrons, the beauty of the City, and most of all, I missed the chance to get my marque finished! I am so beyond ready to have it done so that I may start a salon of my own."

I marveled at her story. I knew it would have taken a lot of money indeed to purchase that much of her time from the House.
“It’s good you have a plan,” I said, smiling. “I know many adepts don’t know what they will do once they are free.”
