I smiled. "Perhaps Marie too then. Though... something about her tells me I might be making excuses for her to Pierre one evening after dropping her at the top of Mount Nuit," I said with a chuckle.

My eyebrows went up in surprise. “Truly?” I asked. I thought about his sister for a moment and the impressions I’d gotten from our brief meeting. “Do you think she’s still a virgin?”

I shrugged. "I'm not sure, we haven't spoken of it. But Pierre is very protective, hence why he's here at all. It wouldn't surprise me." Then I laughed. "Then again, it also wouldn't surprise me if she had gotten around him somehow."

Christophe obviously knew his siblings better than I did, so I trusted his assessment of his sister. She’d seemed rather shy and quiet to me, there must be more to her than my quick assessment had shown.
“What about Henri, do you think he’ll explore in such a manner here in the City?”

"I'm not sure about Henri. I can more see some pretty girl in the market having better luck with him than an adept," I said with a smile.

“Maybe’s he’s more like you than anyone realizes and just needs a visit to Mandrake,” I said, smiling.

I chuckled. "Perhaps. Though I have no idea how he'd take the suggestion."

“Well, should either of them want to visit the Night Court, there’s plenty of coin in the accounts to fund their trip. Let them know we’re willing to fund anything they’d like to do,” I told him, smiling.

"I'll be sure to let them know. Discretely of course. The gods know Pierre would pitch a fit if he found out," I said, happy at the idea of giving my siblings an opportunity, not to happy about having to sneak around my older brother.

“Maybe we should fund a trip for him as well,” I said with a sly grin. “Maybe all he needs is a good roll.”

“Deal,” I said, my soul soaring at seeing him happy again. I leaned in and kissed him again, deep and tender.

I kissed her back, gently running my fingers through the hair at her temple. "I don't know what I'd do without you love," I whispered against her lips.

I smiled tenderly and then kissed her again. "Tomorrow, I'll wear my collar. I never should have left it at home."

My fingers strayed to the bare skin of his neck. “Only if you wish, my love,” I said, smiling. “I know it’s there, even if no one else can see it.”

"I thought it might make today go smoother. But he's going to be himself regardless. I should be myself too," I explained, leaning into her caress.

“Yes you should,” I agreed, still smiling. I leaned in and kissed him again, slow and deep, letting go and losing myself in him for the length of the kiss.

She kissed me like we were the only two on the continent. It was so easy to just relax into the kiss, so I did. I let go of my issues with my family and just let myself enjoy the love of my life.

We kissed for a long time, but it ended eventually and I drew back with a smile. “Shall we go make sure everything is ready for dinner?” I asked with a smile.

Marie took my hand and we walked off, heading towards the stairs. "I think that they are happy with each other. Blessed Elua said it himself, love as thou wilt. I just don't think Pierre realizes that the love can extend past just human interaction to the love of a job, the love of being true to your very nature," I said softly, "but they are definitely in love. And Malabelle seems nice. Like she is genuinely nice, though you can see that bit of viper they always say the Shahrizai have. I mean, afterall, can you think of anyone in Camlach, any female at least, standing up to Pierre during one of his tyrades?"

I glanced at Henri, shocked and hurt at his words. How quickly he seemed to forget we were here because I had stood up to Pierre.
“Yes, but I guess Cameline men only notice it in non-Cameline women,” I said. I let go of his hand and rushed up the rest of the stairs, going to the room set aside for me and shutting the door behind me.

At her words and the way she ran up the stairs I realised my thoughtlessness and frowned, following after her, taking the steps two at a time. I knocked on her door quietly.
"I.. I didn't mean it the way it came out Marie. You know that. You are the reason we were able to get here in the first place. Without you, and with how back and forth father has been, there's no saying he couldn't have swayed father's mind on this," I whispered hastilly. "You know that I am proud of you. But you also know him a bit better, the things that irk him, rise him to ire. She.... she's new to our little family dynamic," I said softly, with a sigh. "Sometimes I am just terribly stupid," I murmured, my hand resting against her door as I frowned.

I was leaning back against the door when Henri knocked and I cursed him for not just leaving me be. I wiped at the tears in my eyes, his words doing nothing to soothe my hurt.
“Go away Henri,” I said. “Go fawn over Christophe’s woman and how she’s far more impressive than your stupid, gutless sister. Go be dazzled by her and leave me here to fade into the draperies, that’s all I’m good for.”

"You know that's not true," I said softly, shaking my head though she couldn't see me. "You know that you are the woman in my life I appreciate the most, second only to mama, rest her soul, and no one could take your place." I said with another sigh. "You're my sister," I said quietly. I felt like this might have been the straw that broke the camel's back, that there were emotions there that were not ocmpletely my fault and mayhap everything combined had made this a catalyst. "I am sorry," I said before moving away from the door. We were off to a great start, the Legard family - an uppity brother who strove to maintain the family name but, by acting as he did, only furthered to bring it to the ruin he fears; me, incapable of soothing any woman, even my little sister; and Marie, sweet and kind and looking for appreciation that we didn't seem to give, and all of us warring.

I wrapped my arms around myself and slid to the floor, crying hard but in the silent way I had learned to do even when I was little, not wanting anyone to know how much they had truly hurt me. As much as I hated Pierre, I loved Henri and after Christophe left Henri was the only person I was close to. Get him away from the farm though and he was just like the others. Two older brothers and one younger, and not a one of them thought I was worth anything or capable of anything. I’d never thought Henri would be so thoughtless, my quiet and sweet little brother who turned out to be just like the other two.
I laid my head against the wall, my body shaking as I cried.

I walked into my room, it was larger than the one I had at home, furnished well with more storage than I could possibly need for what I had brought with me or what I could afford to purchase over time. I would be hard put to find some sort of employment while here or I'd have nothing to do with myself. I closed the door quietly behind me and went to my bed, not undressing or washing up, but lying on it, without pulling back the bed clothes, and closing my eyes, taking in the silence as I waited for the summons for dinner to come. It was going to be a long, long night.
