Feeling a tad bit odd all dressed up, I made my way to one of the carriages waiting outside Gentian. My dress felt wonderful, and I had put my hair up with the combs Aleron had given me.
What really felt odd though were the shoes. But I was trying, so I had an honest pair of shoes on and tried to block out the feel of them as I settled into my seat and readied myself for the trip to the wedding.

A wedding of a fellow adept was always a heartwarming event, and I felt inclined to attend, seeing as a standing invitation for all of Naamah's servants was sent out.
As it so happened, one of my robes, a willowy veil that drapped over my torso, was a deep violet hue, perfectly suited. I had a deep blue robe that usually matched everything, and when adorned, looked quite the mystic, with the fringes just touching the ground. Wearing a pair of soft woven sandels, I floated on the ground with barely a sound.
There were several carriages outside Gentian house available for transport. Approaching one, I opened the door, and was greeted by a fellow adept, not soon past her debut, with deep eyes, and a tranquil air.
In my best of trained manners. "Good day, is this carriage occupied by any others?"

"No, just me as yet," I said, smiling.
I recognized the other adept, but couldn't recall his name. I'd seen him around, but he was older enough than me that we had no studies together.

"Vincent no Gentian." I gave a short bow. "If you won't mind, can I join you on the ride to the wedding. She accepted, and I climbed in.
"So, I've not seen you around, you must be new." I said more as a statement than a question.

"No, I'm not new" I answered, shaking my head. I noticed he hadn't waited for me to answer before he climbed into the carriage, not that I would have said no, the carriages were for all the adepts. It was odd he'd given his full name as well, but then who was I to judge odd? "I've been here for years. I've seen you around. I'm Riva."

"Oh." I guess it's not to surprising, if I'm not out in the rest of the city, I'm usually in my room, or the opium chambers, or with a patron. I didn't associate to well with my own house, no fault of theirs really. "My apologies. I tend to stay out of the way." I looked at Riva briefly, then let my eyes wander the carriage.

"That's okay," I said, smiling. "I'm not the most social person either. It's a big house and easy to miss people."

"Agreed. So what might your specialty be here Riva?" If I didn't say something, it would be an awkward ride.

"I'm reader, I guess that's what Octavier has settled on calling me. When he's not cursing me," I replied, grinning wryly. "What about you?"

I laughed at her comment about Octavier, seems I found one of the other troublemakers. "A dreamer myself. Though I have mixed results. What you do to get on the Dowayne's bad side, it took me a couple years to pull that off," I relied with the same wry smile.

The carriage door shut and we began to move. It looked to be just the two of us and that suited me fine.
"I don't know that I've ever been on Octavier's good side," I said, rolling my eyes. Vincent must have missed the time I was whipped in the courtyard for seeing Aleron without permission. "I think I scare him. It's better than it used to be though, now that I'm bringing money into the House."

"Scare him. I find that interesting." I chuckled softly. "As for money, I find that hard to believe that's his goal. If it was, he wouldn't make a big deal about my slow progress, and relish how many patrons I bring him."

"All Dowayne's like money. They don't care about the gifts we get, just the assignation fees the House receives. If you have lots of patrons and small patron fees, that makes you the perfect adept as far the House is concerned, doesn't it?" I said, tilting my head slightly.

I laughed tilting my head low. "Then I guess that makes me the perfect adept. I've had a good fifteen patrons since my debut, and am only halfway there. I've had.." I counted on my fingers, "four leave me with nothing." I said in a devilish smile. Why was I taking pride in this, I don't know.

My eyes went a bit wide and I leaned in a little. I was fighting the urge to use my gift on him, it was so rude and I was trying to be good.
"How do you do it?" I asked. "Get patrons I mean, it's been hard for me."

I tapped my head. "Many have been young nobles and the like. I pleased them well in bed, but they couldn't handle the truth of their soul. And they took out their anger on me." I sighed.

"But how do you get them to bed even? I mean to get them to contract you?" I asked.

"Oh. That would be the nature of my gift I'm afraid. It requires that I sleep next to the patron in order to enter their dreams instead of their own. The more relaxed the better" I shrugged.
"There are salves and drugs. But I entered Naamah's service, and if patrons only wanted their fortune's told, they could go find some Tsingini" I said bitterly.

I leaned back again, repressing a sigh. He was either not understanding my questions or being purposefully obtuse, either way I was done with that line of inquiry.
"Well, congratulations on your success though," I told him, smiling.

I felt a little tinge to the complement. "I'm sorry, did I say something wrong?" I didn't want to come off as bragging, and I certainly didn't want another adepts resentment, at least over something trivial.

"Alright." Better to switch subjects. "So why are you going to the wedding?"
I would think she seemed more eager to complete her marque. The fact that she was even going, let alone by herself was a little odd. For those that knew me, it seemed obvious, but Riva was a mystery.

"Curiosity, I've never been to a wedding, and to see what tit is everyone is talking about," I told him. "Plus there's someone I am going to try and see. What about you, why are you going?"

"Propriety. For one of our own to find love in all of Elua's splendor is a magnificent thing." I didn't hide my pride for Elua's precept, and is forms. There are few things I admire, and this was one of them. "I would hate to not witness such a demonstration of it. Also..."
I let my eyes wander a bit. "It is supposed to be a grand event, marrying into the L'Enver's family. I have a hobby of observing groupings of people. People watching if you will."

"This should be a good place for it," I said, smiling.
I looked outside, at the landscape flowing past. It was lovely outside, flowers blooming an everything green with the youth of spring.

I followed her gaze to the window, and watched the countryside pass me buy. I forgot how marvelous the landscape is. It had been nearly 10 years since I'd arrived at the city. I spent time in the gardens on the mountain, and dallied in the taverns. But truth be told, I'd not ventured outside the city walls, save in mine and my patrons dreams.
I let a nostalgic smile rest on my face. I could enjoy the silence.

Her seemed comfortable with the quiet and I was as well. I would not intrude on his thoughts, but would let him break the silence if he wished. Instead, I kept my gaze out the window, drinking in the sights.

A few minutes past. We rolled over one of the hills through L'Agnane. The carriage kept a measured pace as vineyards and orchards passed by in the distance.
"So I'm curious. What exactly did you do to get on the Dowayne's bad side before?" I didn't look at her right away, letting the words hang in the air.

"He doesn't like that I say what I'm thinking and have no trouble telling the teachers that the books are wrong," I said, still looking outside. "that's the beginning of it anyway."

I laughed inwardly. How did I not find another house trouble maker, the coincidences were uncanny. But I was still curious. Sympathetically, "What is the rest of it?"
