While trying to suppress the butterflies in my stomach, I rode briskly next to my escort.
"You do not want to be late for your first appointment," my aunt advised as we rode out of her courtyard.
She was right. As I was beginning to realize more and more, she is always right. I clutched my introduction papers tight in my hand. I was so nervous I was surprised my sweat did not dissolve the paper. I felt under dressed, unprepared, and unwanted. The Dowayne seemed reluctant to take an older student. However, my aunt seemed to have persuaded him with her talent.
We arrived in the courtyard of House Gentian. I presented my papers to the attendant at the gate. "I am Aelan no Gentian. My aunt, Moya no Gentian, has already made arrangements for my training. I believe I have an appointment?"
The attendant eyed me with a bit of suspicion, and my confidence wavered. What if my aunt did not hold the sway she thought she had?
"You may wait in the courtyard. If you will excuse me." The attendant turned to go, and I began to shift nervously in my saddle. I hoped my aunt was right.
