I looked around the market. I wanted to stretch my legs, but don't know if this was really the best place to do so. It was quite crowded. I sighed, I had gotten in trouble for being ackward with a patron, again, and was sent to socialize. Being an adept was turning into hard work. I had a marque to earn, somehow, and I really did feel a debt of gratitude to Cereus. I was sure that most of the other houses wouldn't have shown the same patience. At least my mess ups were becoming more few and far between.
I had no real aim. I saw a stall of dusty books and decided to see what there was. Reading was another difficulty and some practice would do me good. The owner of the stall spied me and asked if I was looking for anything in particular. I nodded my head no and looked down, concentrating on the books. I was not having one of my better days.

After much clamoring from the children, I begged the dowayne for a few coins for ribbons to decorate their hair. She agreed, grudgingly, if I went to the market. So here I was, in the noisy market. I stopped at a stall to finger some trinkets, before moving on, looking for the ribbon-seller.

There was not much of interest at the stall that I was at so I decided to move on. As I walked toward another random stall I saw a taller girl who stood out walking in my direction, she seemed to be looking for something. Her long red hair made me think of another girl I had spoken too at a fete quite a while ago. A girl with a sad past.
Ths girl didn't look sad, which made me happy. I wondered if I should say hi to her. She did seem busy and I did not want to interupt her. However she was pretty, even if she was a little taller than me, and I was curious to know more about her.

I turned about to see a pale male adept meanering about the stalls, and gave him a smile.

She smiled at me and I automatically smiled back. She, at least, did not find me strange to be watching her. It was a bad habit and I sometimes forgot myself until I was caught. Since it would be even more strange to just leave I took the moment to walk over to her.
I did my best not to seem shy, "Hello." I said when I was close to her, resisting the urge to look down at what she was toying with simply to avoid looking in her eyes.

I shrugged just slightly, a bad habit. "I am well," I said. "How are you?"

"Fine," I said. "I am looking for the ribbon-seller, have you seen her?"

I looked around the area that we were in, I had never shopped for ribbons. "Are you going to use then to fix your hair?" I asked, a little curious. I didn't know about ribbons but there were some cloth sales a little bit behind me and it seemed like a good place for ribbons.
"I might know," I said.

"Oh, thank you," I said. "They're not for me, though, they're for the children in my care."

I lead the girl through the market and toward the area I had remembered from before. "Oh," I said, "do you have kids?"

"None of my own yet," I said. "But I'm a teacher of a group of Heliotrope fosterlings. Do you have any children?"

I nodded as I said, "no, I don't have any kids." I had never really thought of having children of my own. I could not imagine myself being very good with them, I wasn't very good with anyone for the most part. When I wasn't feeling shy I usually felt a little flustered or dumb. I would not want to have kids if they would feel the same way.
I had noticed that she said yet so I asked, "do you want to have kids of your own?"

I thought for a moment, there were a few adepts at Cereus who simly had kids to be their legacy, though they sometimes barely knew their partner. I decided that a kid in love would be a nicer setup. "Love would be a good setup," I said. I then smiled and said, "I hope that you get what you wish."

I smiled. "I do too," I said. "And I hope that whatever you wish for your future, happens for you."

I saw the set of stalls I had seen before just up ahead so I slowed down a little, the destination not far. I thought for a moment, I didn't really have any wishes for the future. My main wish was to just be a good adept, in the present, and to please my dowayne.
With a slightly silly smile I said, "I hope that at some point I can figure out what I truly want for my future."

"I am only 16," I told her. "How about you?" I then remebered that it was not normally considered polite to ask a woman about her age. It was a little to late but I figured since she asked me it was probably ok.

I nodded. Since she had mentioned it I asked, "does it bother you that you are still house bound?"
We were in the section of the market that seemed to house a lot of clothiers. I looked around as we spoke, to see if someone had ribbons to offer.

"A little," I said. "At one point, I thought I might be free, but it seems that the gods had other plans." It hurt to think of Xaurora, but I tried not to. That path was past.

I walked up to one both that had some ribbons hanging up, "are these what you are looking for?" I asked.
"I have been told that at times the gods plans won't match ours, but that they usually know best." I thought for a moment and then added from my own thoughts, "I might make a difference which god it is though." I thought again, religious concepts had always confused me. They did not exsist when I was on my own, it was just life or death then. No thinking about the future, just the present. "How would you tell which one?"

"Yes, those are perfect," I said, examining the ribbons. "Which god? Naamah, I suppose. Heliotrope doesn't have a patron god the way Valerian has Kushiel, or Balm has Eisheth."

I watched as Maeve looked at the ribbons. I didn't know anything about ribbons or which should be choosen over another , so I didn't give any imput.
"I thought about what she said, Namah would be the best choice I suppose. Unless I had a vision with the god standing in front of me and he or she told me their name, I would have no idea who was or was not guiding me.
"Maybe one of these days I'll understand," I said. "Though I suspect it won't be any day anytime soon."

"I don't think anyone fully understands the intentions of the gods," I said. "The important thing is to pay attention to what they're trying to tell each of us." I held up a satin ribbon an a shade of tangerine. "What do you think of this one?"

"I will do my best," I said as she held up the ribbon. The one she held was a bright orange but not in a bad way. I decided that I liked the color and nodded my agreement, "looks like a good color to me."

"You know, I do too," I said. "I could never wear such a thing, but my blonde children certainly could." I looked at the other colors. "Do you like any of these other ones?"

I looked at the other ribbons. There seemed to be every color under the son available. I found one that was a dark green and seemed to be the last of its color. I p;icked it up and handed it to Maeve. "I like this one, it makes me think of leaves."

I took it and studied it. "Do you think it goes with my hair?" I asked, holding it up.
