"You are a wonderful teacher," I told him sincerely. "Because of who you are. I learn well by immersion."
Looking over the walls I ran my hands softly over the plaster words. "It's Caerdiccan- a list of virtues and some quotes about the wonders of learning. 'Veritas'- that means truth. 'Aequitas' is duty, honor or justice- or a blend of those three that d'Angeline doesn't quite have a word for."

"There are words like that in my language too. I do not need to speak Caredicci, do I?" I asked, suddenly worried.

"Not at all- it is only that it is the language of most scholars, which is why it is on the walls- for tradition," I explained, trying my best to soothe him. "How do you say those things in Ruskovian? Will you teach them to me?"

"Yes, yes I will. But maybe class would be good for you too?" I suggested. "Does the Academy teach Ruskovian?"

"I'm not sure," I replied, trying to tamp down my tremor of anxiety- I'd never been in a real class, always had private tutors, and it was hard enough for me to get along with people my own age at times. "Ruskovian wasn't widely spoken at all until your family arrived and even still it is a fledgling thing. Anyone besides those who came with you speaks it only as a second language."
Smiling softly I kissed the back of his hand and looked up at him apologetically as I leaned a bit closer to him. "But we could always see. Should we go inside?" I wanted to make him proud of me- and I knew how boring I was, and that his attraction to me seemed much absent compared to what I had known from others before. Hopefully from sharing such an experience we could grow closer.

I wasn't sure what was wrong with my idea, but suddenly she seemed worried again. I was going to drop it, not wanting to cause her any distress, but then it was like she was talking herself into it. I didn't understand women sometimes.
"Oh, yes please," I said with a smile from the gentle touch of her lips. I continued to speak as I led her inside. "But you wish to know those words yes? Truth is pravda. Justice is a close word to that, is pravosudie. Honour is pocetnostye, and duty is objazannostye. I can say again, if that was too fast."

"I think I can remember them," I replied softly and shyly as I tried them one by one, trying to feel the words out to learn their cadence and unique sound. "Since 'truth' and 'justice ' sound so close in your language does that mean they are somehow related- that their meaning ties together?" I asked, very curious about anything related to Ruskovia so I could understand him more.

I listened to her pretty mouth form words from my language as best as she could, and a warmth filled me. That she was trying to learn at all was very encouraging to me. I hoped she would take my suggestion and enroll in a class. I might be a native speaker, but I didn't know how to teach. Maybe I should get Olga involved, she had certainly helped us with our lessons when we were younger...
"You need truth to be able to give proper justice yes? Is it not same here?"

"Of course," I replied, glad to have found the right answer and to have pleased him with it. "I wasn't sure if that was the reason or if it was a happy coincidence of language."
Within the school was quieter than I would have expected- but perhaps all of the students were in classes. That would be the best time to talk to those in charge; they would be finishing paperwork or readying for student meetings. "Shall we go see about those classes?" I asked softly and with an only slightly nervous smile; I'd always learned things on my own with private tutors and feared discovering I would appear a fool in the situation. To do so could look very bad- and Fydor would see I wasn't perfectly intelligent.

"Yes, let us go and see," I said, my voice lower in the quiet hallways. I lead her deeper into the school, looking for a proper person to speak with. I had never been in an institution like this, and was trying not to act as lost as I felt.

We walked past a couple desks, no one yet realizing we weren't students- and I noticed a door on the left with a Dean's title on it. "I think, perhaps, that would be who we need to speak with," I suggested in a quiet tone and a smile.

"Oh, right," I replied, angling our path to the door she indicated. I didn't know what a dean was, but I would trust Lessa. I was almost tempted to ask her to speak for the both of us, but we were not engaged yet, I could not appear weak.

He seemed both bewildered and confused and I squeezed his hand softly, as though for my comfort though I thought he probably needed it as well. "The Dean is the person in charge of a certain aspect of a school," I explained very softly and with a smile. "Though I'm not quite sure what their area is. I didn't go to school when I was a child, I only had tutors. I- don't want to seem foolish."

"If you are foolish, but you will forgive me if I am foolish," I teased her with a smile, very glad that she had offered an explanation. Apparently I was easy to read when confused. "Let us make greetings to Dean."

Nodding in agreement and swallowing my anxiety I straightened my shoulders and put my most serene expression on my face before offering him a shy smile. "Do I look respectable?" I asked in almost a whisper, tucking my hair behind my ears with my free hand.

"You look beautiful," I replied with a wide smile, not missing a beat. If I concentrated on her, I didn't feel so nervous myself. Going up to the door, I knocked on the solid wood.

Smiling and flushing in pleasure I relaxed a bit, then waited for the door to be answered by whomever was inside.
