“I will, for the same reasons,” I said, chuckling. Looking at her, I tilted my head slightly. “Would it be possible for me to escort you?”

"I would enjoy that a great deal," I replied softly, a faint flush coming to my cheeks; no one had asked me such a thing since my arrival.

“Excellent, so would I. Thank you,” I said, smiling with pleasure.

His smile warmed my skin and I flushed again, then took another bite of the meat to cover the fact. "I am honored to have pleased you," I replied once I'd swallowed, then took another sip of wine to clear the burning in my throat. I was quickly growing more accustomed to these flavors and sensations, enough so to enjoy them a great deal more.

I looked down for a moment and then just decided to be honest. “You please me more than just about anything since I left home,” I said softly. “Forgive if that’s too forward. It’s just so nice to finally feel comfortable and at ease in this land.”

His words caused me to blush scarlet- but with pleasure, not shame. "I- can understand. Thank you," I said softly, ducking my head for a moment to compose my features before looking back up at him. "I agree with you- it is like that with me as well."

“Thank you as well,” I said, smiling. I didn’t know what to say next, so I took another bite of food.

Flushing again I took another drink of my wine, leaving one last sip in the glass. "Do you know what you will be wearing to the wedding?"

“I tend towards black,” I admitted with a small smile. “But I am open to suggestions if you have any.”

"In Ruskovia it is a lady's responsibility to dress to match the person she is attending with," I replied in a quiet tone and with a smile. "I think I will wear a gown of deeper red with accents in black unless you object."

“That sounds lovely, I will dress to match,” I said, smiling and inclining my head slightly.

"But it was my goal to do that for you," I replied, confused and wondering if I'd spoken incorrectly. "Is that not what you want?"

“I just meant I shall make sure to wear some dark red too, and not just boring black,” I said, smiling.

"If you would like," I replied, very unused to men taking my advise on clothing- well, save my brothers, who I had a feeling only listened to prevent me from finding something else to object about. "I'm sorry- I am just not used to having my opinions so heeded."

“I find you both smart and wise, so I think your opinions are worth heeding,” I said honestly.

"You are very kind to say so," I replied with a blush. "You say nice things very well."

“You are one of the few who would say so,” I said ruefully. “Most who know me find me harsh.”

"Perhaps you seem harsh to them because they are used to people who are unusually soft," I suggested with a wry grin, a brow raised in emphasis of exactly what I meant.

“If only it was soft people who had said that,” I replied with a chuckle. “I’ve been told as much by my family and apparent friends.”

"I do not understand how family could do that," I replied, my brows furrowed in concern. "In Ruskovia family is very important and even if we do not always agree with what they say we would never say anything bad."

I shrugged a little. “I do not please my parents, especially my father and neither do I make apologies for it,” I said.

Nodding in understanding- while I never expected my siblings to turn on me, parents were another matter entirely. "My mother always seemed to approve of me- but I saw my father hardly at all. Girl children are not so important as to have the head of the household involved in their lives."

"At least they care," I ventured softly; I do not think he understood what it was to be seen as so low by one's own father that they didn't care whether you followed the code they taught you or not.

I started to reach out and touch her hand, stopping halfway there as I realized it might be too forward. God damn it, I was doing it anyway.
My fingers lightly touched hers. “I’m sorry you ever had to feel that way,” I said softly, truthfully.

My hand burned a bit at his touch, followed by the warming feeling as I flushed all of the way down to my decolletage. "Thank you, that is very kind," I replied quietly, a bit embarrassed at having let some things that I shouldn't have slip through my composure. Usually I would have pulled my hand away; this time I left it as it was.

My fingers tingled where they touched hers and I wanted to take her hand fully, but I restrained myself. Instead, I just smiled at her and let my fingers stay where they were.

My free hand went to my wineglass and I raised it to my lips with a soft smile- I was liking the Principe more and more.

I noticed the server hovering at a polite distance.
“Are you still eating or shall we order dessert?” I asked Olga with a smile.

"That sounds very good," I said with a smile and as much eagerness as I could politely show in public. "Dessert is sweet things, yes?"
