Name Yourself Day
When : Always April 9th
Name Yourself Day is your chance to give yourself whatever name you'd like...for a day. If you like your name, then change your name for just today. If you don't like your name, use today to select a new name for life!
Participating in Name Yourself Day is simple and easy. Go ahead, give it a try. Change your first, or middle, or last name. Or, change them all. Give yourself a cool and catchy nickname. Once you've selected your name, you've gotta communicate it to all of your family and friends. This could prove to be the hard part. It will likely take time for your new name to catch on. ------------------
So, today is Name Yourself Day. What would you name yourself if you could?

My real name is Ashley, which means "grove of ash trees". I used to hate it, because WTF grove of ash trees? Someone pointed out to me that ash trees might have been used to create the Norse mead of inspiration. Also, the Norse world tree Yggdrasil is supposed to be an ash tree as well. It's ironic because I'm actually part Norwegian, although you wouldn't know it to look at me.
ANYWAY, if I could change my name I would probably change it to Miranda. Which means "admired". My kid, who I currently refer to as "Ashley Jr.", will probably be named Miranda if I don't name her Ashley Jr.

I used to hate my name - Janet Susan - how very staid and plain and boring - but now I'm quite comfortable with it and can't imagine anything else

Hmm, well I used to hate my name too. First of all its a Unisex name...it makes me feel gender neutral... If I was going to chance my name...it would probably be Arcana... It was actually my name when I was Wiccan To be honest though, a quarter of a century with one name seems like long enough for it to be mine... ;D

My name is strange in that there are very few people called Janet these days and those who are called Janet tend to be much older than myself Makes me feel old too lol I can't think of anything I'd want to change it too - Maybe Illyria (the Unicorn Queen in the series of the same name - my first set of fantasy books I think)

i used to detest my name. it wasn't the name 'Valerie' persay, it was that as soon as people found out that my birthday was Valentines Day it was the same reaction 'Valentine's, Valerie...how cute!'
i've always loved the name Emma, so if i was to have to change it would be to that. i don't mind my name anymore, but it would be nice to have a name that people didn't automatically think they could shorten without asking you if it was alright

Ok, I know I'm super late on this topic (blame tax season!), but I'm gonna weigh in anyway.
I like Nicole, but it's actually not my real name. My real name is Niky, which I used to hate because it's a nickname, not a real name (hence why I go by Nicole) but now I like it, especially for the unique spelling. I don't think I would change it, I'm used to it now!

wow, I totally missed this one!!! But, I want to play.. hehe. Way off topic, but Apr 9th is my little sister's birthday Actually I have an easy answer for this one.... my real name is Tosha, but a name that I've been enchanted with since I first spied it is Desdemona. I've used it on a few online boards. I would so change my name to this if name changing wasn't such a pain in the ass and I didn't think my parents would take offense to it (not something I want to do either).

Speaking of parents taking offense, my oldest daughter wants to change her name, lol. I'm not offended - just because I like the name (Samantha), it doesn't follow that she will like it. I told her what I was going to name her (Candace), and then she was happier with Samantha lol.

+yea, I can't say that I'd ever asked them... I can say that if my son ever wanted to change his name it wouldn't bother me... of course I didn't even pick it out (daddy did) so it be kind of hard to take offense.. but even if I did pick it out I wouldn't care. I am all about him being his own person in that regard.
