I tapped the pen against my lip, thinking about how to phrase the note I was writing. Before Marc and Henri had left for Tiberium, Marc had pulled me aside and asked me what I thought of his friend Luc. Truthfully, I hadn't thought about him much, as I'd only spoken to him for a few moments. I had a sneaking suspicion that it was him I'd seen on the bench in my yard, but of course I wasn't the kind of person that would hold that against him. After all, Maric and I weren't being exactly chaste on a bench not too far off! At any rate, Marc had insisted that he thought Luc and I would get on famously, and so here I sat, attempting to invite him out without sounding a fool. I wished I'd brought this up to Sandrine, I was sure she would know exactly what to write, but as it was, I was on my own.
Dear Luc,
Was that too familiar? I scrunched up the parchment and grabbed a fresh sheet.
Luc,
My brother Marc has spoken very highly of you, and thus I would like to invite you to
Invite him to what? Dinner? A light lunch? A show? I nibbled the edge of the pen, thinking. Finally, I went with:
Luc,
My brother Marc has spoken very highly of you, and thus I would like to invite you to lunch so that we might have a chance to speak more than we did at my natal. If you are interested, please let me know and we can arrange a time and a place. I look forward to getting to know you, as my brother obviously thinks well of you.
Sincerely,
Sophine de Layne
To my critical eye the missive could be better, but I decided to stop overanalyzing it and just send it and hope for the best.
