"It is a beautiful place, up on a bluff with a view of the ocean," I said with a soft smile. "You should go."

"One day..." I said, laughing softly. "With all the places I want to see, I should really start thinking about getting on with it. At this rate, I shall be an old woman and just making it to Namarre or some such!"

"But think of all the stories you'll be able to tell your children," I pointed out with a laugh.

I giggled, imagining myself older, telling tales to a horde of children gathered around my knees. It was an odd picture, as I'd never imagined myself having children, but I supposed one day I would be expected to.
"Hopefully the stories will be interesting enough that I won't have to embellish them overmuch!" I said with a laugh.

I chuckled at her reply. "Think your life isn't interesting enough as it is?" I asked teasingly.

I laughed, shaking my head. "Unless you count being the victim of pranks interesting, my life has been a bit dull of late." Of late, I thought, inwardly grimacing, how about always?

"Well, there is an ancient curse from Ch'n. May you live in interesting times. I for one am rather glad for the boredom," I replied with a soft smile, thinking on the last war.

I had heard the saying before, but it hardly seemed like a curse to me. Then again, I hadn't known very many 'interesting times.' Sophie seemed to feel the opposite and I smiled, shaking my head slightly. "Isn't it funny how people often wish for the opposite of what they have had?"

I smiled at her observation. "Indeed it is rather ironic. Dreams are wonderful to a point, but it is too bad that more don't accept reality and settle into it."

I wondered if that was a pointed observation about my somewhat obvious discontent with my lot, but decided that that was unlikely. Contrary to my belief, everything wasn't about me. "Perhaps if people are having trouble with their reality, they need to do something to change it?" It was on my mind a lot lately, the weight of my dreams. Mayhap there was a way to make my reality more palatable.

"That's what I always thought, but then complaining is much easier than action," I observed with a laugh.

Isn't that the truth, I thought ruefully. "Good point," I said, laughing with her. "I know for my part, I much prefer to whine than actually get things done." I grinned, then added, "Though, of course, at times one has no choice, events can sweep one up in the tide and you just have to flow with it."

"Of course. Though the people I admire most are the ones who deliberately step into the tide," I said with a smile.

I sighed and nodded in agreement. "Oh, I agree. I just wish I had the courage to do such myself..." It was more than I meant to say and I blushed slightly. "I mean, that I wish to travel, but have a lot of excuses as to why I can't do it."

I smiled. "I have no doubt once you do decide, that nothing on earth could stay you from your course," I observed. I hadn't known Sophine long, but I was fairly certain that I was right. Stubborn people like me tended to give off a vibe.

"Thank you," I said, considering her words a grand compliment. "I like to think that's true." I hadn't had much experience at figuring out what I wanted, but coming to the City seemed to be changing that. "It's interesting, how being in the City seems to open one up to so many new ideas." I had never thought of myself as sheltered, at Kusheth, but now it seemed that it was so, and despite the homesickness, I was enjoying all of the new experiences.

"Mayhap it's just being somewhere new?" I suggested as we continued down the path in the garden, getting closer to the door where we had begun our exploration.

I nodded, "Yes, and I think because people come to the City from everywhere, one is exposed to ideas and people one might not have met otherwise. Take us, for example." I said, smiling as we neared the end of our journey through the garden. "If I were in Kuseth and you in Azzalle, we should never have met."

I smiled, happy that I was having such a wonderful time making friends in the City. First Sandrine, then Raegan, and now Sophie. "I agree. Why, without you, I would surely be wandering aimlessly at this very moment!"

"Oh, some brave soul would have taken pity on your eventually and pointed you in the right direction," I said with a chuckle as we passed through the door and back into the temple proper.

I laughed too, "But luckily it was you, and we had this nice visit." We were now back in the temple, and I realized that there really wasn't much left to do but head back toward home. "Are you going to head home after this?" I knew that Dyan would be waiting, and as much as I preferred to be out, I did have chores waiting.

I glanced up at the sin's point in the sky. "Yes, I think I should," I replied a tad regretfully. "I have work waiting for me at home. Speaking of which you should drop by sometime, House Trevalion in the north borough. I don't get nearly enough visitors."

"Oh, that would be lovely." I exclaimed, reaching out to squeeze Sophie's arm gently. "Thank you for the invitation, and of course you are always welcome at House Gilot, in the West." I gave a light stretch and wondered idly if Dyan would object to my taking a nap. "And thank you again for spending time with me."

I chuckled with a smile as we came out of the temple. I was minded to follow a different path home to better explore the new streets, so this was where our paths diverged. "It was a pleasure, truly. I hope to see you again soon."

"The feeling is mutual." I gave Sophie a quick hug, then turned back the way we had come, hoping that I would remember the way home without getting lost.

The hug was a surprise, I was used to people begin more standoffish, but I returned it nevertheless. A last wave and we parted ways to head home.
