Letter in hand, I walked down the hallway to Olga’s study. I glanced over the letter again, it was certainly proper and well presented. I had to speak to my sister first though before I decided how to react much less respond.
Stopping in front of the door, I knocked softly. “Olga, it’s Alexei, may I come in?” I asked in Ruskovian. It was nice to have a home filled with my native language for the most part and I indulged whenever I could.

I had just finished spinning the thread I planned to put on the larger loom further upstairs when I heard Alexei's knock and straightened the scarf I'd wrapped over my head; flying bits of fiber tended to get into the air and, while they were invisible to most people, I had no desire to accumulate enough of them in my hair to become acutely visible. "Please enter," I replied in our native language as I neatly began to wind the finished yarn into a ball.

I stepped into her room and smiled, it hadn’t taken long for my sister to make this space her own and I was proud. “It’s like being home again,” I said. “All we need is a good snow outside.”

"I doubt they would even get a foot of snow here," I said with a soft tone but a slightly rueful grin as I tugged gently at the pile of yarn to pull some free before integrating it into the ball I was making even as I glanced at the paper in his hands before returning my attention to my work. "But I have tried to make it as much like home as possible. Are you well?"

“I am, very well in fact,” I said, moving closer and taking a seat on the window ledge near her. “I think they get a good snow in the mountains, but if last winter is typical it is like the spring snows of home.” I watched her work as I spoke, so capable and sure. “How are you, dear sister?”

"Very well, thank you," I replied with a quiet smile as my hands continued their work, my head turning to face him slightly. "It's lovely to have a visit from you- I have been wondering what you were doing with your time."

“I’ve been sitting in on meetings with Sabrina and learning more of the intricacies of the government here,” I answered. “And you, how have you been filling your time?”

"I've been working on my crafts and cooking a bit," I told him with a smile, the ball in my hands getting larger. "I enjoyed the fete a good deal as well- I hadn't been out of the house in some time and it was nice to do so. Did you have fun there as well?"

“I did,” I said with a nod. “The fete is a bit what I wanted to talk to you about. I’ve received a request, from Prince Eduardo.” I watched her carefully without staring to gauge her reaction.

"I thought you might- he mentioned he might said word," I said in a serene tone and with a small smile. "May I ask about exactly what he inquired?"

“He is asking my leave to take you to dinner at the Aragonian restaurant in the city,” I answered. “I wanted to speak with you first before I answered him.”

"I'm glad you wanted to speak with me about it before giving an answer- at home many wouldn't understand your behavior but I appreciate it," I told him with a warm smile. "I haven't had any such invitations since coming to the City, I'd like to go if you don't object."

“I don’t object as long as it’s something you want to do and not just something you feel like you have to do,” I said. I could hear the concern and brotherly protection in my voice. I worried for Olga. I wanted her to be happy, not just dutiful.

Alexei always tried very hard to take care of us all- and I could tell he wanted to make sure I was going to be happy with such a decision. "It would be good to get out of the house," I told him sincerely and with the same smile. "And to try something new. It was nice to speak to someone who understood something besides the ways of this land."

“Alright,” I said with a smile. “I will write him back and tell him that he has my approval.”
I stood and walked to where she was sitting. I leaned in and kissed the top of her head softly. “I want you to be happy little sister,” I said softly.

“Thank you,” I said, smiling at her again. “Shall I go write my reply now and have it delivered immediately?”

"I would like that, so long as it isn't an inconvenience for you," I told him with a confident nod. "I would not want to stop whatever work the missive interrupted."

“Nothing is more important than something that makes you happy,” I said, giving her another smile. “I shall go reply right away.”

"You are a very kind brother," I told him playfully. "Please let me know the decision you and the Principe reach and I will be sure to be ready."

"You as well- and truly, thank you," I said in a moment of true sincerity, meeting his gaze and smiling more widely before going back to my work. It would be very nice to have someone outside of the house to speak to.

I gave her another smile and then left to write to the Prince and give him my permission.
