I walked into the practice room late at night. I was to restless to sleep. The room was empty, just how I liked it. I went near a back corner away from the door and started to stretch. Even though I had absorbed all of the fighting technics taught by the house, I still liked to revert back to the old methods I was taught as a child.

After visiting the horses at Alain's home I'd returned a little more of myself and found a solution to the problem of my earlier, unsatisfying assignation- a fellow Dahlia, fully marqued and about my age, as regal and dark-eyed as Sylvestre was neither. Feeling much better I'd returned to my rooms, bathed, and picked up my staff, deciding that I'd best fight my resentments inside the salle rather than outside.
Once I'd entered and set aside my staff to stretch I noticed another person in the ring, the dark-eyed and angry-seeming creature who had watched Morgana and I spar before. Nodding respectfully I began to stretch and waited to see if she would address me.

I watched the other adept get into the ring. I had seen her before, ah yes, it was Allisande. I remembered watching her spar with the other adept, right before we where interupted with the news about the king.
I hadn't talked to her since then. Part of me wondered why she was in here at this hour. So, I asked, "What brings you here at this time?"

Smiling wryly with a little bitterness in my eyes I replied, "Strange hours for a strange day, in this case. It's better for me to work out my aggrievations in the ring than outside it."
Back straight I stretched my arms over my head, then reaching my hands down to lie flat on the sawdust floor of the salle. "You seem to keep odd hours yourself, Ellette."

I bent my right knee, stretching the left leg behind me and stretching my arms. Looking over my right hand I said, "that I do, but I like my hours. Keeps me fit, I have never slept much anyhow."

"That's nice to do, when your nights are your own, but once you start having regular patrons more things are delegated to daylight hours," I stated matter-of-factly. My legs were next as I went into some basic stretches gracefully, letting the long lines of my form flow from one movement into another.

I switched from my right to the left. "I have had a few patrons already, but so far they haven't taken up to much time. Though I guess if I ever want to finish my marque I will have to get more steady work."
With that thought I moved into a back stretch, I could still remember the pain on the base of my spine that I had felt during my first visits.

"Take the patrons carefully- it will make a difference," I said bitterly as I went into a simple handspring, feeling the muscles in my body fall more fully under my control. "Patrons are tricky things, after all, and some can cause you more trouble than the assignation was worth."

I raised my eyebrow at this. I moved into a plank pose, one I liked to stay in until my muscles started to burn, and then asked, "trouble with a patron have you?"

Kicking myself mentally for having gone a bit morbid I said nonchalantly, "What adept doesn't? It is a hazard of a lifestyle, as far as I understand it."
Now that I was having a conversation with the girl I was able to see her face a little more clearly- there was something familiar about it, and the features were purely Yeshuite. "Are you pure Yeshuite?" I asked curiously. "It's rare that someone without d'Angeline blood is accepted into a House."

I shrugged my shoulders, as well as I could the plank I was still holding. "I don't know what I am, I was a runaway who found myself here. I was lucky enough to be picked up by the Dowayne who apparently found me to be a good waitress."

"Sabrie always had an interesting way of going about things," I said as I went to pick up my staff. "But surely you've looked at yourself in a mirror and learned your lessons to become an adept- Yeshuite features are easy to place, and you have them. I even know another Yeshuite in the City, I was speaking to him the other day; in fact, you resemble him slightly."

"Well, I have defiantly looked at myself in the mirror plenty of times, but I guess I never really thought about my origins. But, now that you mention it I do look like a Yeshuite don't I."
I moved out of my pose since it was starting to make it difficult to talk. Standing and stretching my arms I said, "there are probably a lot of Yeshuites who look a little like me if I am one of them."

"That would be terribly unobservant of me to make a mistake like that- it would be like saying all Skaldi or even all d'Angeline's look alike. You two just look remarkably similar. Who knows, maybe he's a cousin; after all, you were a runaway from somewhere, weren't you?" I asked a little presumatively as I picked up my staff and twirled it in my hands, liking the swishing sound it made in the air.

I stopped stretching and watched Allisande twirl the staff. I hadn't brought any weapons with me, I preferred daggers anyhow. I had gotten some strange looks from adepts in the past when they saw me tossing my knives around.
"I guess I might have a cousin around, but this would be a strange place for one. I ran away from the Kusheth area, though I traveled around a bit."

Mostly focused on my movements and breathing, I still managed to answer, "Well, almost everyone in Terre d'Ange ends up at the City at some point in time; I have never been outside of it, born in Mont Nuit and raised at Dahlia since I was six years old."
I could feel myself slipping into the movements naturally and my body at balance, so I started doing some of the more difficult attacks, spinning on a heel as I imagined myself sparring. It was good to have something that brought mindlessness with it.

I laid down on my back, bent my knees, then lifted my body up with my arms and legs in a backward looking crawl. I didn't move however, just stayed in that position.
"You would think that I would remember that I was in the capital, how ironic would it be if one of my relatives was hanging around. I wouldn't be able to recognize any relative of mine though, I was raised by non-family."

"Blood calls to blood," I said, slowing my motions and swinging my staff behind me to rest in both hands. "If you really want to look into this though, his name is Rannon. He's an aquaintance of mine, and a good man, even if he isn't of the sort to patronize our House. He's also much older than you, said he was twelve when he came to the City to be fostered with another family."

"Rannon, huh?" I had lowered myself to the floor and I was simply laying there, letting my muscles relax a little. "I might look into it later. It would be interesting if anything. I guess blood can effect you a little, even if you never interacted with it outside of yourself."

"I have brothers that I didn't see until recently, though they were all born before I was; trust me, blood does call its own. That is the way of things," I said in surety as I placed the bottom of my staff on the ground and leaned against it.

I folded my arms and rested my head on my hands, feeling a little pull in the backs of my upperarms from my short workout. I tried to imagine me with a brother or maybe a uncle, but it wasn't easy since I had grown up pretty much on my own. Granted my previous benifactors feed me, for the most part, but I hadn't felt any sort of affection till I joined the house.
"I wouldn't even know what to do with anyone related to me. The only people I've had a relationship with beyond basic friendship have been lovers. I obviously can't treat them like that."

"Having a family is more than that- like having a friend who, on a certain level, always knows what you mean. Then, I have heard that every family is different, so yours may not be like that, and I didn't live with my own family for very much of my life anyway. Still, I think it's something that can come naturally when one meets the right person, like the stories about love."
Walking over to a bench I let myself sit, feeling my muscles cooling slowly enough that I didn't need to worry about them stiffening.

"Hmm, I don't know if I could know that much about someone that I didn't meet until 16. Granted if we spent enough time together we would, but I can do that with anyone I befriend. "

"That's understandable as well, but I can't explain the difference- it just is. Some things in life are only there to be accepted without any reason," I said, as much to remind myself as to tell her. "If you search for family, then come to me and I will give you the rest of his name; if not, then you will not change in the slightest for the knowledge."

I slowly stood up and looked over at Allisande. It might be worth my time to look this guy up, but if it turned out to be a dead in I might end up looking like a fool. Digging around for a family that I know nothing about.
"I'll think about it, right now I think I'll finally be able to sleep, and I'll do so. But, if I do decide to persue it I'll make sure to find out the rest from you."

"Sleep sounds like a wonderful idea," I agreed, standing and stretching upwards again as I yawned. "I will see you around most likely, as we live in the same house and all," I said with a wry grin. "Try to stay out of trouble."

I smiled at Allisande, "don't worry, if I get in trouble I'll be sure not to get caught." I winked at her and then walked out of the practice room. I then chided myself mentally, 'get in trouble, you've been a little to good since you've got here.'
