I laughed too. "Much like Sophine, I can't really think of a place I don't want to visit." I paused for an instant, then went on. "I haven't really been that far outside of the City...even Eisande seems like a foreign country."

I chuckled at Sandrine's comment. "I know what you mean. The City seems like a foreign country to me at times."

"Just wait until you get to that foreign city. Then you'll long for this particular type of bustle," I said with a knowing smile.

"I'd like to think I'll relish the newness of a faraway place, but you're probably right. I've only been out of Kusheth a few weeks and I already miss it terribly." I traced an M and then an L on the tabletop. "Although, the more time I spend here, the more I am enjoying it."

"Enjoying the Academy enough to register for any classes?" I asked. Both Sophine and Sandrine seemed like nice enough people. There were certainly worse in my lit class.

"Oh definitely!" I enthused, forgetting that we were posing as students. "I don't know how to decide which ones to take!"

"There are so many to choose from," I said, shaking my head. "It's hard to know which to take. But I am interested in learning about some of the more farflung cultures." Just maybe not in a classroom, I thought.
"Tell me, Fiona, do you know if there are any classes on Menekhetian culture? Or Jebean?" I was of the opinion that I didn't have to tell everyone everything about my background. "The Academy is so big, one gets the impression that they teach everything here."

"I'm not sure about cultural classes specifically, but I know they offer a class on Menekhetan," I replied, fishing the small of wedge of cheese from my lunch bag and unwrapping its linen case.

"I didn't know you were interested in Menekhet." I said to Sandrine, and then realized how ridiculous that was. How should I know her interests; I'd only known her a few hours! Still, I felt quite comfortable with her, as if she were Maric or Lilli, whom I'd known half my life.

"Oh, I'm interested in all sorts of things," I said, my eyes following some handsome young man who walked past our table. "I'm especially captivated by things that are different. For all the people that come through Terre d'Ange, our fair country is still lacking in contact with countries like Jebe-Barkal, or Menekhet, or Ch'n. I know there is a Jebean diplomatic mission, but outside of that..." I shrugged. "It's important to understand what else is out there. For me, at least."

I nodded enthusiastically. "Oh, I agree wholeheartedly." Although, if I were being honest, my interest lay more with my own desire for 'adventure' and 'excitement.' "We should know about the world around us. Times are changing and for Terre d'Ange to flourish, we need to be aware of things that are going on."

I listened to their excitement. "If you truly believe that, then I would suggest to learn a little of the language, and go as soon as you can," I replied. "For no D'Angeline can truly explain the problems of a Serenissiman, much less a girl from Menekhet."

I nodded thoughtfully. "You're right. Intellectually learning about it is one thing, but experience is something else entirely."

"Well, of course," I said, "but that has to come along with money and time. None of which I have, yet." I shrugged. "We are young, and hopefully someone with both money and time will come along and whisk us up and away." I smiled wickedly. "Or we will have to do it ourselves. Either way, I'm going to go."

"I'm already here," I said with a chuckle. "Though I would mind seeing more of the Caerdicci states if I get the chance." The thought made me think of Milo, which only served to strengthen my smile.

It seemed like most people were content to stay in Terre d'Ange. I had to admit, it was a beautiful land.
"Well, since we are all here now..." I trailed off, gesturing to the crowd of students. "What are the people like, here? Are there arguments in the library over who gets to take out what book? Rivalries on who can answer the most questions?"

I chuckled. "It can be... young at times. But it's not bad usually. Most of us are adults here."

I chuckled. "I've known some adults who would fight over books or brawl over a point." I grinned, adding, "there's usually alcohol involved, though."
"So, what's involved in signing up for classes?" I planned to go to Dyan armed with all of the information I could.

"Well, you should speak with one the professors, and see if you can find a sponsor. Then you have to pay tuition and come to class," I said with a smile.

I quirked an eyebrow at Sophine. "Maybe we should ask that Alban professor?" I asked. "He seemed very friendly." I chuckled softly before turning my attention back to Fiona. "What is the sponsor for?"

"To make sure that you're marginally intelligent and actually interested in learning," I said with a chuckle.

I laughed aloud at that. "Only marginally? That's a relief." I leaned back in my chair and stretched, catlike. "What do you say, Sandrine, do you think we qualify?"

"Ouch!" I said as she kicked me, playing it up. "My goodness, you drop just one bucket of water on someone and they think they can treat you badly. What a world we live in..."
I glanced over at Fiona and saw that she was done. I wondered if we should be ready to go too soon.

I had to laugh at that. "Oh, don't worry, one day I'll get you back!" I grinned at Fiona and said in an apologetic tone, "We must seem mentally unbalanced."

I looked at her a bit oddly at her apology. "No, not really."
