Name: Maric du Verais
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Height: 5'9
Race: D'Angeline (Kushieline)
Home province: Kusheth
Appearance: Maric is handsome as are all the men in his family, though because he is D'Angeline he would be stunning by any standard. This young man looks much like his father, fair skin with a strong face, though his hair is a bit darker, a chestnut so dark it looks black, only reflecting brown hues in the sun. His eyes are a strange mix that seem to shift with his mood. Usually they are a grey/blue-green, but they move between colours. Unlike many of his peers, Maric is larger, giving him a more solid built look, a mix between muscle and mass. Though he is more firm of build, Maric considers himself shorter then what he would like, only reaching 5'9.
History: Maric is the only son of the Comte and Comtesse du Verais, and the brother of his twin sister Lillianne. If one were describe Maric in one would they would probably use the word 'focused', for that is exactly what Maric is, some times even to the point of obsessive.
As a young boy he was much like the other boys he grew up with, playful, cheerful, and an all round enjoyable child to be around. But each year he got older, he showed more and more of that focused behaviour that he became known for. When it came to his studies Maric put everything into them, always making sure he finished his work as quickly and efficiently as possible. It wasn't so much that Maric loved to learn or desired the knowledge that he gathered (though part of it was finishing quickly so it could go about more fun things). No, this was only a bonus to him. The real enjoyment for him was completing his task fully and with passionate perseverance, to put himself into what ever he was doing with firm belief that he could do it better then any one else. But don't think of Maric as arrogant by his beliefs, he doesn't hold it against you that you are not as good at him. Its just he knows that he works hard to be the best, and he simply is that good.
True enough to him, he is good at many things. He is an excellent rider, fluent is Aragonian, Alban, Eiren, Caerdicci, Skaldic, Akkadian, and Hellene, and since he was ten he has been working with a sword and doing a soldier's routine in hopes of one day joining the Royal Army. What ever Maric sets his mind to he accomplishes and does it better then others around him, often making him ostracized from those his own age. Which means he spends most of his time with his twin sister, the only person he's every thought really understood him, as only a sibling so close could do.
Maric is a strange young to those he does not know, often seeming cold on the outside, he is quite the opposite to those he loves and cares about, those that are close to him. When he is comfortable Maric is funny, witty, and spontanteous, enjoying to take each moment for the merriment it could bring. In fact one of the greatest joys for him is when the Tsingsani have their horse fair, he loves going and riding all their stock, hoping to convince his father to buy one of the wild stallion they have.
When Maric was ten, his life changed quite a bit when Sophine came to live with them. At first he cared very little of the girl, she was just another play mate and some one that his sister tended choose over him. That made Maric force himself to spend time with the duo, talking about this and that having to do with girly things. He didn't mind over, as long as he could spend time with his sister, and in time he began to soften to things changing to the three of them. For years this was how it was until Maric's 13th year. As if almost over night something changed in Maric. If you to ask him what it was that changed in him he would or could not tell you, but either way, there was a difference and for the first time he noticed Sophine. Suddenly he noticed her hair and the way she smelled, the way she spoke the the little laughs that changed depending on how funny she thought something was. Year after year he found himself becoming 'focused' on Sophine. But the young man never persued her, finding himself always awkward whenever he decided to speak with her in private or tell her how he felt. Instead he kept himself to a calm distance from her, teasing her and staying aloof, especially when his sister was present.
Some time ago Sophine left for the City of Elua, and her absence made him an almost anxious and aggressive young man. This has given him a desire to travel and in an act of both desperation and genius he has convinced his father to let him to come to the City as well. Maric has convinced his father that since he is sixteen, that it would behoove him to experience life at court. As his father's heir to the Comty du Verais, he should have all the experience's he should have as a young man of his age. In truth Maric looks forward to his duty as the future Comte as he knows he will work hard and do his father proud. But there are two definite reasons why he wants to come to the City, one is Sophine, his object of affection, the other is to know what its like to contract a Valerian and hopefully loose his virginity. Either way, his father has sent him packing to the City to stay with a family friend and continue his studies for the future.
Update: Maric has since been to the City a few times. His first venture did not go very well and this caused him to return home to Kusheth in a childish state. Upon spending a season back home he once again returned to the City and was soon after followed by his twin sister. But Maric hadn't even had time to spend time with his sister when he was accepted to a private military academy to begin training. For Maric it was a once and a life time opportunity which he couldn't pass up. Once again leaving the city and creating chaos in his wake as his relationship with both his sister and his the niece of the man he had been staying with. He is returning once more to the city with great hopes of making this a permenant stay this time.
Over the last little while Maric has changed a great deal, being at the military academy showed him things and a way of life he had never really thought about. Where before he had always been focused and studious, he had also been impeteous, spoild and often selfish, he's grown as a young man and found strength in silence and contemplation. Though he is still young and joyful, he now bares a quiet nature about him that he prefers as opposed to his nature before. The reason for this is because he almost died while he was away. Durning a particular rainny week there was a flooded river which he fell into and almost drowned. For 2 weeks after he was bed ridden with the sweats and a fever so bad that he did nothing but sleep. When the fever broke he was left with a revelation about life and where he was headed. Since then he's turned his attention to his future and made the decision not to repeat past mistakes. He wants nothing more then to join the Royal Army and build a career for himself.
