I have been well ere we last spoke, and I pray you and your family have been the same. I have not yet done much exploring since I arrived, a ride in the country sounds like a fine plan. I too have found the social pace set by the D'Angelines ambitious. Would you be available Wednesday next?

I was elated to receive a response from her; part of me worried that she would simply deign not to. I tore open the sealed envelope, letting the wax crack off and fall unconcerned to the desk as I scanned the page, drinking in the few words written there. She would meet me.

My smile grew as I read it again, then in a stark contrast against how I'd torn the envelope off, I set the letter down gently before turning to gather my writing materials.
