Looking for work...

I walked up to Elegantine house still thinking about the adept i had talked to near the fountain... thinking of the beauty she had.

I stood infront of the gates in wonder. it was beautiful and i cold feel my insides begining to turn to jelly. i had never had to ask for a job. i had never had to speak to a Dowayne before or the house guard. i din't know what i had to do.

I walked up to the gate guard

"excuse me dear sir. i am looking for who ever is incharge of employment here. i was told there maybe an opening here?"
The guard looked at me and said with curiosity
"what do you offer?"

I stood a little straighter and looked him square in the eyes and said
"Well i am a Journeyman black smith and i have dabbled in teaching sword play. i can also do kitchen work and heavy lifting. anything here you think i might be able to do?"

He looked me up and down and said "i can take you to the head of the kitchen. maybe she has something for you to do. come with me."

as i followed him i watched the adepts walking around and the hussle and bussle of a house of Nammah at mid day. it was amazing how many people there were there.

Shaye was taken to the kitchen and a large woman stood there looking at me. she was more plump than anything else and had a very motherly look about her. she wore a yellowish brown apron that looked like it had once been white over a simple brown dress and her hair up in a bun. her hands were filled with a mixing bowl and wooden spoon and she looked me up and down.

"what have you brought me here boy?" she said with a slight smile in her voice tho her expression stayed serious.

"well he's looking for work and he looks like he could do some lifting for you and he says he has done kitchen work."

the guard moves aside to look at Me and i look him in the eyes and bow my head slightly and said "thank you" to him and looked towards the woman.

"well my name is Marian. we are looking for someone to do serving and just all around bussy work for us. you inerested?"

i looked to her and my jaw dropped. i couldn't believe it. i was being offered a job.

"well of course you would have to stay off site and i would want you here no later than maybe sunrise each mornng and stay till mid after noon. how does that sound. we can see what i can pay you after i look at the books and talk to the Dowayne."

"yes" i blurted out "i'll take it! i'll take anything you can give me! thank you!'
a smile crossed her lips and her whole self seemed more welcoming.
"well then when can you start?"

i smiled at her and bowed deeply and spread my arms infront of me and said..."when would you like me to start?"

she looked at me and smiled
"well can you work in those clothes?"

i looked at what i wore adn it was my riding clothes so i smirked back at her and stated
"madam im from siovale. i can work in any of my clothes"

she set me to work wth bringing in fire wood and getting plates set up for the Adepts dinner. all the time i kept a look out for what kind of house this might be for. there were lots of beautiul people but they all seemed to be speaking of things relating to the arts. there were painters and clothes makers and musicians of all sorts. i couldn't help but turn and look when i saw the flash of some small figure hoping it was the woman from the square but all the time i knew she couldn't have told me to come to seek for work here if she were an adept here. i didnt make a good impression. i probably scared her.

i walked back into the kitchen as dinner was about to be served and marian looked me over.

"you did good boy. i will see you in the morning then. you can go now. "
she threw me a small bag that clinched and i arely caught it before it hit the ground.

"for todays work. you really did good."

i smiled and said my good byes and started to walk towards the front gate. i had money and a job and a place it seemed my sister would fit into.
things were falling into place...

I came in early everymorning to get things set up for that days activities. Hauling in logs and starting fires. I watched as the adepts woke from thier rests and ran errands for them. i watched them walk. so gracefully and so seductivly. i watched them make their work so expressivly and i could not stand it. i was surrounded by all of this beauty and i felt as if i was tarnishing it. they were gorgeous and i was so plain to my eyes.

i wished everyday for the chance to see the small woman from the square and to be able to bring my sister here from back home. i would soon be able to do just that. i had saved almost every penny i had made and gave little of it out. i could send for her in a matter of a week or so as long as nothing happened.

i went through the day and a smile was plastered to my face just thinking of my sister. Fae. Fae Sellick. soon enough i would be able to see her smiling face again and here her beautiful voice and see her pen scrawling over every writing surface she could find. soon enough.
