Dearest Mama,
I feel guilty, the last time I wrote you it was to report how I found Father. Now I’m on the road once more. My time with Father was perfect, but I couldn’t infringe on his family for any longer. To be honest I do not get along at all with his wife, she thinks I’m a bad influence on her boys. I suppose I don’t really blame her. I don’t exactly fit into the mould of a proper Hellene woman.
I’m in La Serenissima right now, but I’m heading north tomorrow morning with a caravan. I hear they have wonderful stories in the north, both in Skaldia and in Ruskovia. I know you don’t understand, but one day I’ll be so full of myths and legends that I’ll be able to return home. I’m keeping records you know, of all the different stories I’ve heard. When I get a chance, I’ll make some fair copies and send them home with the next letter. You won’t believe some of the jewels I’ve uncovered.
Give my love to everyone, and do not worry, I am well and likely to stay that way. The caravan driver has assured me that the tribes are at peace right now, and I’ve started to learn Skaldic. I expect I’ll end up learning Ruskovian before to long as well. Apparently I have quite the ear for languages. I must thank you for that, for teaching me Caerdicci and Hellene when I was young. It has put me in good stead.
But I must go now, I need my sleep for I imagine I’ll be up late tomorrow night, telling stories around a campfire.
Miss you and love you tremendously, Rhoda
