It was difficult to listen to him talk of fair... skinned, did he say? leaves when all I coul think about was the touch of his hand sliding across mine. My hand twitched in the soil, a battle of wills raging; one half wanting to keep it in the ground, the other wanting to follow LaValle. I couldn't hardly help it.
Forcing myself to do as he suggested, or at least observed, I wriggled my fingers gently to try and see what he was talking about. "I don't feel anything," I said after a moment. "Just solid dirt."

Nodding in understanding I brought my hand back to hers, gently pressing her fingers closer to the root mass of the plant to where the barest tendrils of fibrous roots branched out. "Can you now?" I asked softly, meeting her gaze and then instantly held by the feeling of her hand in mine and the way her eyes almost glowed in the sunlight. Still, I didn't let go, waiting to see if I needed to help some more.

Gods, how could I find anything with his hand on mine? I drew myself mentally, as much as I could, and concentrated on feeling what he was trying to point out to me. "Yes," I said after a moment, looking down at the dirt before at him, nearly over my shoulder. "I think so."

Smiling happily at her seeming to understand I gently brought her hand out of the soil with my own, though I didn't quite release it yet- I coudln't seem to make myself do that so far. "All that really matters is that the roots have space and the soil is right," I told her softly.

I was perfectly content at leaving my hand in his, though I had to admit fighting an urge to turn my hand and let our palms press together. "Alright," I replied, looking at him with a heartfelt smile. "Watch the sun, and not too much, nor too little, moisture. Is there any books that you know of that help teach what kinds of plants like lots of sun and which don't?"

"There are many that I've found," I told her, shifting my hand to brush her palm softly. "I'll find one for you, and you can read it to your heart's content. No doubt you'll learn it faster than I will."

"I doubt I will," I said, smiling, though blushing lightly under his high praise. "I think you underestimate yourself, LaValle."
Had I thought before I moved, I likely wouldn't have, but the fact of the matter is that I didn't think. Leaning towards him, I brushed a kiss upon his cheek, my lips remembering well the feel of his skin. My blush remained as I sat back again, eyes averted, groping for something to say and coming up with nothing.

At the touch of her lips my eyes drifted closed, fingers coming to fleetingly stroke her cheek before she pulled away. Too quickly the skin she'd just brushed seemed to grow cold and I opened my eyes, filled with a stark longing- not for anything specific, just more of her touch, or her scent, or her gaze. If my features showed half of that- oh Elua!
Flushing brightly I stroked her palm for a moment. "It's not that I underestimate myself," I told her softly and sincerely, bringing her hand gently to my lips and kissing the back, heedless of the dirt. "I just have so much faith in you. Don't be sad."

I glanced up as he spoke, though missed the first of what he said in lieu of drinking in the emotion on his face. It was muted, but stark even so.
I blushed a little more, my gaze dropping to watch him as he kissed my hand. "I'm not sad," I protested, though my heart wasn't in it. "I just hope you know how special you really are."

"I know how special you think I am," I told her, wanting her to cheer up once again. "And that is the best thing in the world to see."
She was growing uncomfortable in my presence and I flushed with shame as I stroked her hand one last time and then simply held it. "I truly didn't mean to make you upset, Calista."

My gaze shifted to his quickly even as I shook my head, silently protesting his comment. "Oh, no, LaValle, you didn't make me upset at all." Bringing my free hand up, I cupped his soft cheek, my fingers spreading out and brushing just inside his blond locks.

Before I even realized it I turned into her hand, resting my head against it the slightest bit more firmly and smiling more brightly at her words- I didn't want her to be unhappy in my presence. A soft sigh of pleasure and peace left me as her fingers ran through my hair and I stroked her palm again. "I'm glad, for I hate to think that I made my presence tedious."

A smile crossed my mouth, lifting the corners and blooming into my cheeks. "You're far from it, I promise you that," I said, enjoying the way he leaned into my hand, my fingers still brushing through his hair.

"If I get any closer to it, you must tell me," I pleaded softly but with a sweet smile. "That way I could prevent it and become what I had been moments before."

My smile grew more, and I just barely kept myself from kissing him. "Oh LaValle," I said softly, my eyes shining with warmth, "You do underestimate yourself." I touched his face a moment longer before letting my hand drop away, catching up in the folds of my russet skirt.

Her hand falling away caused a woeful lack of sensation, but her hand at least still rested in mine and I understood her actions. "You are too sweet, Calista," I replied with the same tone and warmth as she'd used.

"Only sometimes," I replied, a tease in my voice and a slightly devious glint in my eyes. "And only to those who deserve it."
I smiled at him, giving his hand a soft squeeze. "Did you want to plant today, or should that wait for another time?" I asked, trying to help him feel comfortable again by taking the focus off one another.

"First let's look over the rest of the plants- it's best to keep the ones already in the soil in good condition before we put in others, in case there's a disease or infestation that could spread to the others. Besides, we have to weed first," I told her apologetically but still smiling softly.

"Alright," I agreed, smiling as I focused my attention back on the garden. LaValle was so utterly close to me that it was distracting, but I found myself leaning towards him rather than away. I did all I could not to look at the garden shed. "Where should we begin?"

Smiling, I lightly took the stem of one of the flowers that was supposed to be here. "On this row, only plants like this should be on it," I explained. "No matter how lovely they are, the weeds have to be plucked or they'll stifle what's been planted."
With a sigh I let go of the plant I was holding and move on to a tiny weed. "In truth, I've always hated weeding," I told her softly, flushing a bit and wondering if I sounded silly as I leaned a bit closer to her. "It seems unfair."

"I think I remember you telling me that the last time I came for a gardening lesson," I responded as I pulled out a small weed, looking up at him with a smile. We weren't far apart now as he leaned towards me, and I could feel my lips warming, aching to come in contact with his. "It's good to know you haven't changed, LaValle."

"And you as well, Callie- Calista," I replied with a slight flush as I caught her gaze for a moment before willing myself to pull one of the unwanted flowers. "And I'm sorry if I repeated myself- I just still find it to be true. As silly as i know it is, I can't help but imagine how the weed feels." My flush deepened and I laughed self-deprecatingly. "I can only thank Elua we don't keep herds that have to be culled."

I smiled softly, watching him as he blushed. Unable to help myself, I lifted my clean hand and stroked his reddening cheek, then leaned in and pressed my lips to his. My breath caught, remembering the feel of him; soft, warm, lean. I lingered for a moment, feeling a blush rise in my own cheeks even as I kissed him.

As soon as her lips brushed mine my eyes drifted closed and I hummed softly in pleasure, my hand mirroring hers as it stroked the soft line of her cheek. My lips pressed back against hers with equal pressure, then just slightly more as the taste of her mouth ran through me with a small shudder. A gasp escaped me before I kissed her again, carefully gentle so as not to force her further than she wished to go- though I knew I'd gladly return anything she gave.

I'd expected an acceptance of the kiss and for it to be broken, a shy smile and a fond word, but he kept it, gasped, and kissed me anew. I smiled inwardly and responded much the same. My hand held his cheek gently as the kiss deepened, slowly becoming more than a passing touch. I knew we couldn't keep it up for long, but for now I wanted to enjoy it, a stolen moment that might get me removed from Alyssum.

For a moment I continued, tongue brushing her lower lip for a bare second before I managed to steel my will and open my eyes to meet her gaze, then brush my nose along hers. "I wish the flowers grew taller, so we could hide in them for a time," I whispered softly. "I'm sorry, Callie, I am." My thumb lightly stroked the lips I'd just kisssed.

My breath was short by the time the kiss broke, my eyes flashing with a desire that I was doing my best to deny. "Don't be, truly; I shouldn't have kissed you." My blush hung strong as I dropped my gaze, feeling slightly embarrassed at my actions.

"Please don't ever say that," I protested, eyes wide as I gently tipped her face up to mine, full of remorse. "Don't feel as though it's your fault in the slightest, please. I like it- I don't want you to stop, and the fault of that fact is mine alone." A brighter blush played over my cheeks but I brushed my lips against hers anyway, then pulled back the slightest bit. "I miss that as much as your voice and your beauty and everything else, and I will be grateful forever that you did as you did."

"Oh LaValle," I sighed softly. My eyes showed warmth for him as I leaned into his caress, then again as he kissed me. "You're by far too good to me." I smiled softly, my fingers caressing over his blushing cheeks as I rested my forehead against his. "But if you're not sorry, then I won't be." I stole another soft kiss, before leaning back, noting the presence of another as they entered our part of the garden. I didn't know if it was an adept or not, and didn't want to get LaValle into trouble.

"I enjoy being sweet to you, because you deserve it more than anyone else I know," I told her in a whisper as I smiled sincerely and sweetly, backing slowly away as she did though my hand found hers where it rested in her lap.
