I had searched long and hard for a gift for LaValle, hoping to find something that spoke to me of him. Then I had found it. It was chime made to set on the window sill and catch the light and air. The chimes were polished metal flowers that would cast sparkles of light whenever the sun touched them. The flowers themselves were Periwinkles, Water Lilies, and Acacia. Happy memories, purity of heart, and friendship. It was perfect.
I had the gift wrapped and Shylah and I went straight to Alyssum. I hoped LaValle was free, I seemed to keep dropping in on him unannounced.
I told the young adept who I was and she went to find LaValle while we waited in the courtyard.

I'd been working with some of the children (flower arranging, I had finally reached enough mastery at something to teach in it) when another adept came and made me aware of Leyna's arrival. Smiling, she took up where I'd left off and kep the children occupied while I went down to meet Leyna.
She was as beautiful as ever, standing in the courtyard with her ever-loyal Shylah. I let myself taking in the picture for a moment before I bowed my head, eyes averted as per always, and approached.

Shylah made a little huffing bark of greeting and I looked up to see LaValle approaching. I left the box on the bench where I had been sitting and almost ran over to throw my arms around him.
"LaValle, it is so good to see you," I said, embracing him tightly. "I hope I haven't taken you away from anything."

Her arms were around me and I hugged her close, inhaling her scent and smiling shyly. "No, of course you haven't," I said honestly; the class had been older children and all they needed was practice, not real direction. "It's wonderful to see you," I said, running a hand through her hair.

I looked down as Shylah raced circles around us, tail wagging happily.
"Shylah's happy to see you too," I said with a laugh.
I let go of him and returned to the bench to retrieve the box.
"I've brought you a gift," I said, smiling and holding out the brightly decorated box. "You can't open it until I leave though. I'm going to be awful and make you wait so you can be surprised like I was,"

I ran a hand over Shylah's fur as leyna returned with the box; my eyes widened with suprise. Speechless with pleasure and shock I just held the box and looked at her; then I held the gift in one arm as I hugged her.
"Thank you, you didn't have to," I said quietly. "And I'll wait until you leave until I open it, I promise."

"I know I didn't have to," I told him with a grin. "It's not nearly as fun to buy gifts when you have to. I did it because I care about you."
I shooed Shylah away to go sniff so that LaValle and I weren't risking tripping over her wiggling form.
"Is it possible for me to whisk you away and off to have tea and cakes or are you busy this afternoon?" I asked him.

I thought for a moment. "Yes, I'm free," I said, knowing that my classes for the day were over, and it was too far into winter for my meager gardening skills to make any difference. "And even if I wasn't, I'd go, I want to," I said shyly.

I flushed with pleasure at his words.
"Wonderful!" I said, leaning in and kissing his cheek. "Would you like to walk or take my carriage? Shall I wait here while you put this away and tell people or…"
This time it was a blush that colored my cheeks.
"Forgive me," I said, laughing. "I am just so happy that you can come that I am babbling."

Ducking my head I blushed a little myself. "I like it when you babble, I think; I get to hear more of your voice. You wait here and let me put this away and let someone know I'm going out and that will give you time to make up your mind. It doesn't matter how we get there or what we do, as long as I get to talk to you."
Smiling slightly I gave her a kiss on the cheek and walked inside at a decent pace; once in the building I rushed a little, goign to my rooms to put down my gift and informing one of the other adepts of what was happening, in care Voleta came looking for me.
Necessary things accomplished at looking a bit more straightened up, thanks to the mirrors that were conveniently located, I walked back outside to stand by Leyna.

I tried to compose myself while I waited for LaValle to return, but not too much. I liked how free and happy I felt when I was around him.
"I think we should walk," I told him when he returned. "I haven't really had a chance to just stroll through the city yet and I can't imagine anyone else I'd like to do that with."

I smiled as I held out my arm for her to take- that decision gave us more time and I liked every second I could spend with her. "Which way should we go?" I asked, eyes warm.

I took his arm and called to Shylah.
"You lead and I will follow," I said, smiling broadly. "I am yours to command."

Blushing slightly, I shook my head. "I'm not so good at commanding. But maybe I can try guessing what you want me to do and do that."
Picking the most picturesque route I began to lead her along it.
