I opened the door and made my way in, pausing to wait for Uruz to follow, then led us to a table.
Once seated, I gave a sketch of a smile to the moderately pretty serving girl who came up to us and ordered an ale. She nodded and looked at Uruz, waiting for his answer with a slightly larger smile.

I looked up to the serving lass and decided to eat my pride and let Kendrick pay. I ordered a glass of ale as well and two bowls of stew as my meals had been a bit far in-between even with Odette’s generosity. That handled I looked to my would be benefactor “Well may as well get to it I suppose. What do you want to know about metal work?”

I was waiting til the lass was gone before I began talking, though the big man infront of me beat me to it. "How good you are at it," I said bluntly before drawing myself up. "I'll lay it out straight for you, Teiwaz - I'm looking to invest in a venture, something to broaden the Deveroix estates, generate more money and prestige to the family name. A smithy would do just that, but I'm not looking for a farrier, or something that a ham fisted idiot could do. I want someone who can make fine crafts, who can make daggers with jewels embedded, who knows what he's doing."
I paused, leaning forward towards him, my eyes steady and unwavering on his, searching. "The pay and position would be.. substantial, given things go well. More than anything, I need someone I can trust. Can I trust you, Teiwaz?"

I considered "You can trust me as far as the next man." And that was enough of an answer for that. I took some time to consider the other part "I am out of practice I am sure, but I am skilled at crafting blades of nice quality for general battlefield use and passably good ones for more formal ventures like looking good one one's hip and being serviceable." I scratched at my beard "If you are looking for someone capable of making works of art that are also functional I am not the man." It was an honest assessment as best I could tell I was a very capable blade smith but I was not like some of those hermits who live on mountains and go without a warm lass for a decade while crafting a great blade.

I looked at him, trying to figure things out as he spoke. "Sometimes simplicity is the best," I said after a moment. "And you, would you be interested in working for me?"

I grunted “Yes, it beats doing something more exciting like mucking out stalls. Actually working in a trade that I have some skill in and that offers some future is more than I had hoped for.”

I nodded. "I'll begin scouting for smithies on the morrow then," I said, and abruptly the waitress appeared. Setting down the two bowls and our drinks, she gave the both of us a flirty look that no doubt had gotten her a good tip - and a pinch or ten - with other patrons, but I merely looked at her until she disappeared again.
Turning back to Uruz, I took a drink of my ale. "And you have a place to stay for now, then?"

I smiled a bit at the question and watched the waitress as she parted the irony not being lost on me. “At present I am staying with a bar matron who seems to fancy me a bit.” I looked back to him with a rather lewd smile “I have had to sing for my supper in much worse ways I will assure you.”
Then switching to the topic at hand I took on a more serious tone “Thank you, you do not know how much of a load that takes off my mind.” I sipped my ale “On the business side of things I assume you will need a list of minimum equipment? The way I reckon things start with the least that can be gotten by with and then for a while turn income back into more and better gear.”

I nodded. "I've already scouted several items out that I've been told would be needed. One of my men has the task of finding a trustworthy contact as well to list out everything else I should need..." I paused, looking curiously at him. "Though if you would like, make out a list of everything you personally would think you would need. That way I can make sure you have it as well as crosscheck the lists I have coming in to check for their own credibility."

I grunted and just listed things as my people were never much for list "Full set of hammers and tongs and of course an anvil. Along with the forge will need someone to help keep it stoked and work the bellows while I work." I took as sip of my drink and a bite of the freshly arrived food and wiped my mouth with the back of my hand "Not sure if you have anyone in mind for that particular labor or if you would prefer I tend it."

I nodded, taking mental notes; I had a long memory and wouldn't forget. "I'll see to hiring the lad to help you - I think I might have one, though you'll have to train him. From the sounds of it though it shouldn't be overdifficult to learn. He's stoudy and steady, with a good level head on his shoulders."

I grunted once more “The way the learning process normally works he can learn and I will not live forever or he can strike out on his own at some point. Of course there is the matter of raw materials and such but that need be tended after we consider the primary issue.” I grinned “Customer and what they might want. I cannot help any one way or another in that reguard as you probably guessed.”

My smile quirked. "Worried about a customer basis already, Uruz?" I asked, my voice holding a lilt of tease.

I rolled my large shoulders "Seems pointless to make something unless someone is gonna buy it."

I sighed. Seemed as if humor was beyond Uruz.
"Alright. It seems as if most everything is settled. Where are you staying exactly so I can call upon you once everything is set up?"

“Night’s Doorstep” I gave him direction to Odette’s residence. I seem to have vexed the fellow somehow but how I was not sure. To be honest D’Angelines tended to baffle me on more levels than not.

I nodded, taking mental notes of about where he stayed. It wouldn't be hard to track down a large Skaldian staying with a d'Angeline woman. "Wonderful. Is there any questions you might have?"

I shook my head no and added something that was hard for one such as me “Thank you, steady work takes a load off of my mind.” My voice was softer than I had ever heard it and it pained me to admit that I was about at the end of my rope.

"Work hard and honestly and we'll call it a fair trade," I responded with a grin.
"I hate to do it, but I have a few appointments and I'll be late if I don't leave now. It was a pleasure meeting you, Uruz," I said as I stood, my chair scraping back.

I stood as well and offered my hand "A pleasure as well. Do have a good day and I will be in contact about getting things moving."

I smiled as my hand met his, giving a firm shake. "Of course. Have a good day as well, Uruz," I said. I tossed a couple smaller coins on the table to pay for the drinks and bowls of stew, then pulled a spare purse from my belt that I always kept in the case of emergencies. "Here," I said, tossing it on the table infront of him. "Consider it pay in advance."
Nodding my head once to him, I turned and made my way from the Cockeral, more eager now than ever to get the ball rolling on the smithy.

"Thanks you" I replied and lingered a while to finish my drink.
