Name: Ishtar Amatu-Tamir
Born as: Giselle Palindrake
Age: 17
Race: D’Angeline
Former slave, now Marquise Palindrake
Appearance: Ishtar looks younger than her seventeen years, her face delicate and heartbreaking. But her pale blue eyes tell another story, one of pain and wisdom far, far beyond her years. Wise eyes in a child-like face. Her diminutive height adds to the young appearance, at only 5’2 and coupled with a slender body and narrow hips. Her hair is long, the color of sable and her skin the milky pale of moonstone. A delicate dragon tattoo graces the back of her neck, inked on her first birthday, a D’Angeline dyer’s guild symbol.
History: Ishtar has been a slave in the Mushir’s seraglio since she was five years old. Born to a Master Dyer and his wife in Marsillikos, she remembers little of her D’Angeline life, only the stories her mother imparted before her death when Ishtar was ten. How Giselle came to be Ishtar and a slave is a simple, if sad story. She and her mother were in Amilcar trading for saffron and other dyes for her father. Slavers captured and drugged the two and were sold in Tyre to the procurer for the Mushir of Tamir’s seraglio. Anoka, called Zaynab, was sent to the Duc’s bed.
Giselle, now Ishtar, was gifted to the Bas Kadin, or first wife and mother of the heir, as a companion and pet. She served the Mushira for nine years. She had some contact with her mother, but it was limited and kept secret from many. Ishtar learned two things from her mother, pride and quiet rebellion. Zaynab died of consumption and Ishtar promised her as she died, that she would flee somehow and return to her Guild and father in Terre d’Ange.
At 14, Ishtar had the great misfortune to attract the notice of the Mushir. His wife was insanely jealous and cast Ishtar from her service. The Mushir, not sated with her yet, had her trained with the other Odalisques. But the Bas Kadin was still enraged by Ishtar’s continued presence and favor. For three years Ishtar avoided poisonings and mishaps in the seraglio. Finally tiring of the girl, and his honored wife’s complaints, the Mushir gifted her to his two beloved nephews.
An Odalisque is trained and talented in many things. And Ishtar beguiled the twins into taking her with them, despite their better judgment. She will wait, and serve as faithfully as ever, in any capacity demanded. Her time is soon.
