I gaped before I could catch myself, then clicked my mouth shut with an audible click. I looked at Fydor and Olga; Fydor seemed lost, Olga was as Olga always is, motherly, solid. I shook myself mentally and walked to Alexei, snatching up a soft towel on the way and handing it wordlessly to him. "Lets go get a drink, brother," I urged, hating to see him broken so.

I took the towel Sergei offered me, burying my face in it for a moment before using it to scrub at my face, drying my tears and leaving my skin feeling raw.
Then I lowered the towel and pressed it to the still seeping wound on my chest. “I’m not going out,” I said softly, looking up at Sergei. “But vodka does sound like a blessing right now.”
Carefully so as not to step on Olga or Fydor, I stood. I offered Olga my free hand to help her rise. We should at least get out of the hallway.

With a small smile of thanks I took Alexei's offered hand and rose easily, used to the stiff gowns I wore and completely unimpeded by them. "You should have that looked at," I said quietly.

I pulled the towel away, looking down at the place where I’d cut through my flesh with the thought of slicing my heart out. Sabrina’s curse rang in my ears.
“It’ll be fine,” I said, pressing the towel back to it. “It had stopped bleeding but it got ripped open again.”

I caught sight of where Olga indicated, and bit a sound of surprise before it could appear. Good lord - what had happened to him?
I turned, looking at Fydor. "What of you, littlest?" I asked, trying to keep the mood lighter with light hearted teases and affection. "Would you like a glass of vodka? And you, Olga?" I looked at her, giving her a minor half grin, finding it extremely difficult to do anything but go find someone to take my rising anger and frustration out on.

"Littlest?" I asked indignantly then grumbled, "Vladmir is the shortest..."
I hopped to my feet like the jesting insult had never been spoken. "Come on brother," I said to Alexei. "Let's get some vodka into you. And the rest of us. Though maybe not Sergei, he's plenty tall enough, he doesn't need any more." I grinned.

Their levity burned me and I had to fight back more tears. I didn’t say anything though, they shouldn’t have to suffer because I felt like I was dying.

"I will come, though of course refrain from the drink," I replied with a small smile and a nod of thanks for their offer; lightly I rubbed Alexei's back, offering some condolence for the time being. My elder brother didn't seem the sort to enjoy merrymaking at the moment, and the alcohol could make him introspective, but perhaps that would help in its own light, opening his mind to more philosophical discussions on the topic at hand.

I shot Olga a look of gratitude at her comforting hand on my back. Then made my way down the hall to my sitting room.
There were plenty of places to sit and a large supply of vodka, it was all I needed. I gestured towards the bar as I looked at Sergei. “You pour, I’m going to wash this off,” I said, indicating my chest then heading to the bathing room.

I followed them, glancing at Fydor after Alexei disappeared into the bathing room. I sighed and shook my head, getting out three small glasses and uncorking the vodka. After they were poured, I slid one down the bar towards Fydor, then downed mine and repoured it, my eyes meeting Olga before looking away again. I didn't know what to say, and figured anything I did murmur might be heard by Alexei in the next room.

A finger idly traced the rim of the glass, but I would wait for Alexei's return before downing it. "Will you be around tomorrow Olga, or will you be going out?" I asked, trying to sound casual.

As the rest of them concerned themselves with the vodka I gracefully poured a glass of water and sat on a particularly soft chair far from the fire; why the people here insisted on fireplaces in this burning climate was beyond me. "I don't believe I have any plans to venture forth," I replied after a moment's thought. "Unless there is something you wish me to see within the shops or such."

The bleeding had stopped again and I cleaned myself up, ridding myself of the torn shirt and bloody towel.
I returned to the sitting room just as I heard Olga’s comment. I picked up the drink Sergei had poured for me and downed it in one gulp, holding my glass to him for another.
“You should go out and see the city, sister. You don’t want to spend your whole time here not experiencing anything do you?” I asked.

I refilled his glass without comment, my eyes going from the glass once I filled it to Olga, listening to their conversation.

"If we are to be leaving, brother, the point seems to be moot," I replied quietly and respectfully though with my voice full of a questioning tone.

I took my refilled glass and sat in my chair.
“I told you before; just because I’m leaving doesn’t mean you all have to as well. I’ll deal with father if you want to stay.” I drained my glass again then ran my finger around the inside of the glass and dabbed the alcohol on the wound on my chest. “Besides, I just recalled I promised to take Sergei to this faire they are throwing and buy him a horse, so I am staying at least a little while longer.” I looked up at Olga and Fydor. “You two should go to the fair at least. Olga, I hear they are having quite the market on the first day if none of the rest interests you.”

"I will go where my family needs me," I told him confidently. "And with no ties here I don't believe it will be in the best interests of the line for me to continue staying. Still, I agree that I should at least appreciate this strange place whilst I am in it, and the market sounds lovely."
I could hear in Alexei's tone that he really did love this place- otherwise he wouldn't insist on my experiencing it so much. "With all due respect I believe you should stay anyway. It is not like you to give up."

“I’m not giving up,” I said softly. I gripped the glass so tightly I could feel it vibrating as it struggled not to shatter. “I just know when I’ve lost.”

"Of course- you are wise in such things, where I am not," I agreed docilely. "The battle may have been a short one, but if you were routed I trust your judgment."

She pricked my pride and anger flashed in my eyes. I shot up from my chair, eyes flashing. “There is no merit in staying in a victoryless campaign,” I said. “One does not have to be routed to see that.” I slammed the glass down on the table, feeling it crack beneath my hand.
“Goodnight,” I said to them all before storming into my bedroom and slamming the door shut behind me.

I didn't know if Olga was being incredibly sly, or incredibly insensitive. "I really hope you know what you're doing," I told her before downing my second shot. I suddenly didn't want her to know I had his ring, not until I knew what her angle was. "Would you like company on your trip to the market?"

Did no one have faith in me? Still, I was a woman and I knew that they'd always have a shred of doubt in my intellect, even if they never realized it. "I will go up and speak to him once he has calmed down," I replied serenely, sipping my water. "He needs to think and he couldn't do so clearly while he was so lost in grief. Better he at least have his spirit back before jumping to any decisions."

I sighed and rubbed a hand over my eyes. Now I had annoyed Olga. This was not a good day.
"Yes, of course. I am sorry for questioning you sister," I said softly. "I'll be in my room if anyone needs me." I got up and left. I could do nothing but anger anyone right now obviously, and I needed to get away from the vodka. The thought of having to leave Terre d'Ange and Lessa gave me a strong urge to get roaring drunk.
