I managed to procure a horse through one of Joaquin’s contacts, though it had cost me. I wasn’t too worried about funds; I had plenty of contacts. I’d investing in some honest businesses during my travels, and some not so honest. Regardless, I made my way into Terre d’Ange as a lone rider. It was refreshing to ride the roads leading to the very heart of Terre d’Ange; I’d not seen them in a very long time. It should have been a beautiful thing to see this land I’d been born to once again, but I only felt the bitterness of my family’s betrayal. It was not that I didn’t miss my homeland, simply that my longing for Terre d’Ange was overcome by a deep hurt.
As the ride began to take its toll, I stopped along the way as was needed, continuing the next day to my destination. My body ached by the time I reached the City of Elua. I didn’t pay much heed to my surroundings as I entered the City; the only thing that could perhaps move my heart would be Azzalle. That, I would save for later.
It was early in the day, just before the City began to buzz. People turned to watch me ride by, but I barely glanced at any of them. They wouldn’t know me, nor would most of the peerage. I didn’t know if my parents were in the City, but they would be the only one to recognize me, besides August. And even then, it had been eight years and I’d grown. I’m sure it’d take more than a moment to truly recognize me. The thought made me smile, and I decided to play a game. I changed my direction, moving towards the Palace. I’d been here more than once in my youth and the pathway was unchanged. I found a stable nearby to hold my horse and walked the rest of the way. I stood outside the Palace gates, hidden in shadow and waiting for a familiar figure to exit. If he was as mad as they said, he’d hate to have to stay still. I’d be willing to bet he’d be exiting the Palace within the hour. And I would be waiting to judge just how mad he’d truly become.
