The walk was a short but pleasant one and we were soon there. I held the door for her and smiled.

I stepped in and gave a little sigh. "This is perfect," I said. "What a good idea."

“I’m glad you approve,” I said, smiling and leading her over to a table in the corner. I held her chair for her.

"Thank you," I said, sitting down and waiting for him to be seated as well. Various smells wafted in the air and I inhaled deeply. "It smells so good," I said, "I'm getting hungry."

“Then we’ve come to the right place, everything I’ve had here is delicious,” I said, smiling. A server came over and handed us menus.
“Would you like wine?” I asked Merav.

"Yes, please," I said, accepting a menu. "White, if they have it."

I asked for a bottle of good white wine from the server and then looked at the menu. “This all looks good,” I said with a chuckle. “I’m hungrier than I realized.”

I laughed too. "After weeks of broth and tea, I could do with some solid food," I said. My eyes fell on a salmon dish with capers. "Lemon salmon with capers and mashed potatoes," I read. "That sounds tasty."

“It does indeed,” I said. “I think I’ll have the sliced beef with mushroom sauce and wine stewed tubers.”

"That sounds good, too," I said. "I think I might have to steal a bite of your tubers, they sound wonderful."

I chuckled and set down my menu. “You can have a bite without stealing as long as I get a bite of your fish.”

"Absolutely," I said with a smile. The waiter came with the wine and two glasses. He made a bit of a show of uncorking it, for which I had to hide a giggle, but soon the wine was in the glasses and we had placed our orders.
I picked up my glass. "Shall we toast?"

“Absolutely,” I said, lifting my glass. “What shall we toast to?”

"To our health," I said, waiting for him to add.

“To our health,” I echoed, smiling as I touched the rim of my glass to hers and then took a sip of wine.

I sipped my own glass. The wine was good, light and fruity. "What have you been up to now that the City is open again?" I asked.

“Just trying to get everything running again. I’ve finished a few commissions as well,” I answered. “What about yourself?”

"Well, Zahav finally found a job," I said. "He'll be working at the Midsummer Fair for a horse dealer. We're hoping it'll become a permanent position, so he'll have somewhere else to live." I took another sip of my wine. "I've been glad to let him stay, but it's getting hard to support two people on one person's income."

“That’s good to hear,” I said, smiling. “Will you be happy to have your home to yourself again?”

"I think so," I said. "He was a very unobtrusive houseguest, but I think he is eager also to leave and continue his travels and studies. And I will be glad to be able to use my home without worrying about him." I sobered a bit. "I will miss him, though, and he did nurse me while I was ill."

“It’s good that he’s found a position locally then,” I said, smiling. “That way you can still see him.”

I nodded. "A permanent position might take him out of the city, he says," I told him. "But I don't think he's thinking that far ahead yet."

I reached across the table and let my hand touch hers softly. “I hope everything works out for you both,” I told her softly.

"Thank you," I said, shifting my hand so it held his. For a moment, my eyes shifted so that we had perfect eye contact. "Your eyes are so blue," I said, a hint of surprise in my voice. "I can't believe I didn't notice that before."

Her words caught me by surprise and I smiled. “I hope it’s a good thing they are so blue,” I replied.

"Oh, yes, it is," I said. "They're just very distinctive, in a good way." I blushed. "Sorry, sometimes I say what's on my mind without thinking."

I smiled. "All right," I said. "Then I am not sorry."
Just then, the waiter arrived with out plates. The smells were so delicious! "Thank you," I said to him.

I added my thanks to the server and then looked at the food in front of us. “Oh, now I’m famished,” I said, chuckling.

"As am I," I said. Slicing off a bit of my salmon, I took it up with my fork and pushed it slowly into my mouth. "Mmm!"
