I chuckled, grateful that she allowed the subject to move on. "I try not to pay too much attention to the grapevine. I find it much to difficult to sift out the grains of truth. But please, tell me of Montreve. I'm afraid I feel painfully ignorant of so many Siovalese estates."

"Its a wonderful place, and every year I swear it grows bigger." I said smiling fondly of my home. "Its green in the summer and white in the winter...of course. My father used to raise hounds there but he stopped after I was bitten by one when I was ten." I shrugged. "I guess he figured it not worth the cost. Consequently I've been afraid of dogs since." I chuckled. "Theres not much to tell other then we have an extensive library." I smiled still thinking about the days I would sit curled up on the floor listening to Grandmother Phedre tell stories and read from her collection.

"Of course, your family has many learned people in its history," I said with a smile, thinking briefly on the heros of old. Then my smile turned wry. "Afraid of dogs? I would have said your highness wasn't afraid of anything."

I turned my head down slightly and gave him a wry side long glance as I not so princess like stirred my tea with my finger then brought it to my lips and suckled it sweetly. "We all have our little secrets now don't we." I said softly leaning in a little before picking up my tea and sipping it, my eyes never leaving his.

I watched her little show as I sipped my tea, placing it down without looking at the saucer. "Are you good at keeping secrets?" I asked with a little smile. I wondered if she was one of those ladies that teased us until we were more than ready to take them home, and then simply turned on their heel and left. I had it happen to me once before and it made me just a little cautious, no matter how much I wanted to bury my head in that ravishing cleavage, for they played many of the same games.

For some reason, in that moment, I felt very old and very tired. My smile faltered for a moment, but only a moment before I let it increase. "I can keep all sorts of secrets." I said softly.
I think it was in that moment that I was done playing games. It was too much effort to tease and ignite, to seduce and taunt. I just wanted to sleep. All my life I had teased, I had giving those subtle hints, I had played the perfect courtier, saying the right things and forcing intelligent and witty come backs. And now I was tired of it. I wanted to talk to a man and not be some one I wasn't, I wanted to flirt without it being a game, or forced.
I thought of Delaunay in that moment, how he had told me about his children, and then how he had told me about Azabel and the day they met, how it had felt something for her, how it had come so easily and how he was in love with her. Even after all the time they had separating them he still loved her and now he was going to marry her. I was happy for him, I was, but I mourned for me. I wasn't getting any younger.
I kept my smile, but I was sure that my thoughts were writ on my face and I chuckled shaking my head a little.
"Tell me Lucien, can you keep a secret?"

Something in her changed, and I wondered what secret she had to make my words hit so close to home. My smile slipped from my face, leaving a more serious expression in its wake. "As long as it doesn't hurt my queen or country, my lips are sealed," I promised, folding my hands together on the table in front of me, the tea forgotten for a moment.

I leaned over and smiled, both for his comment on it hurting the queen and for the expression he wore. "I hate tea." I said with a chuckle. "And to be honest, this is the last thing I'd like to be doing today." I smiled and leaned back, feeling almost lighter. "Do you like horses Lucien, because I could really go for a ride in the country. Would you like to do that with me?"

You could hear the honesty in every syllable, and almost see the giddy reaction she had from speaking the truth. Apparently she had been a courtier for far too long.
"My stallion hasn't gotten a good stretch since we arrived in the City," I said with a smile. "It wouldn't do for him to get fat."

I grinned then, happier then I could have been sitting there playing games and pretending to be some one I wasn't. I fished into my purse and pulled out enough coin to cover the tea and a bit extra. "Come then, lets away. I'm tried of being inside."

Her grin was girlish, almost like her inner child was peeking out to come play. I rose and offered her my arm. "Of course. Let's go and get some wind blowing through our hair shall we?"

I chuckled and rose taking his arm. This was so much better then playing games.
