Ten years prior to the summer following Queen Sabrinas Coronation.
My sixteenth natal had come and gone a few weeks prior to now, and I'd been given leave to go to Maison des Metiers and choose something pretty to help celebrate it. I entered the shop and glanced around, returning smiles and bows with a few nods of my head. My gaze swept around first to see if I recognized anyone in here, and, after that proved to show no one, I focused instead on browsing the cases, hoping to find something perfect for the fete that was to be held in a few weeks.

I had gained majority a year ago, Bercer protesting wore my father down and I had spent the first year going through his, or more correctly the estate I was to inherit. It bored me, endlessly.
But my father promised he'd send me where ever I wanted if I obliged my grandfather and so I did, and father had sent me to the City of Elua.
On most occasions I detest the City, filled with bragards, the dredded palace court, and a constant line of people claiming linage in one way or another. I tended to come to dispise when father was called to court on some business or another. Queen Sidonie always favoured father for some reason or another, and I was always asked to come along.
But this time it was different, I was nineteen now and it had been almost a year an a half since I had been. The City was looking good and there was a certain eagerness to enjoy Valerian house.
I was also going unaccompanied, he promised only a few men to join me on the ride between Montrevé and the City of Elua.
I had arrived only days ago and I was ready to enjoy some time, alone, in the streets of the City. Phreya had asked me to get her something while here, a one shoppe caught my eye and I entered into the establishment.
It was empty save one blond girl.
Looking around I found a case of necklaces and bracelets that I began to scan, looking for something she might like.

I was leaning and looking at a stunning sapphire necklace when I heard the door open and close again. Straightening, I turned and looked out of habit, catching sight of a tall, dark haired man come in. He looked fairly young if the line of his face was any indication, mayhap a year or two more than myself, and quite dashing. Smiling softly, I turned back to the necklace again, nodding when a clerk asked if I wanted to see it.
It matched the dress I had on today. I picked my hair up as she clasped it about my neck, looking in a mirror. Ah, gods, I didn't know. "I'll think on it," I said as she took it down again, laying it on the glasstop.

The blond girl looked at me. I instinctually smiled back, wide and dopey from my estimation, then I turned and furrowed my brow. What was I smiling at her for, and in such a manner. I browsed for a moment, my sight catching hold of the necklace that the blond was looking at.
"Thats beautiful." I said looking at it and thinking about Phreya.

His smile was charming in a silly sort of way, and I found my own growing before I ducked my head. When he spoke though, I looked up at him again, trying to place where I knew him. He looked... familiar. His features reflected Shahrizai, I knew, but... I sighed.
"Thank you - I admit, I have to agree," I said, flashing him another smile as I looked at the necklace sitting infront of me. I hesitated, then touched the large sapphire with my finger before running my hand over the fabric that covered the expanse of my stomach. "Forgive me, but you look familiar. Have we met before?"

I looked at her then, my eyes scaning the sapphire and wondering if the girl had anywhere near enough money for that item. "Oh," I said quirking a brow and stepping back, my arms going behind my back as I bowed. "Forgive me." "Prince Delaunay de la Courcel." I offered with a brisk smile.

The inquisitive look that was on my face melted as he said his name, his bow as brisk and formal as his voice. "Oh, of course," I said, stepping away from the counter enough to give him a curtsy of my own, lower than I might have otherwise by right to his House. "Princess Azabel de Somerville, your grace," I said with a smile as I rose, my eyes flashing with mirth. "It's no wonder you look familiar."

I raised both brows, perhaps she could afford the necklace. "Somerville," I said still a little taken back. I would not have thought some one of her ranking would wander here, some one of her age to.
"Where are your guards?" I asked looking around when things started to click together.

"Hiding behind the amethyst case," I said, flashing him an teasing grin. "I've no need of them, do I?"
I looked from him and back to the jewelry again, pointing absently at another sapphire necklace that I wanted to try. I loved blue; the jewels were my favorite. Glancing back to Delaunay, I took a moment to appreciate his body and grace, though I didn't take my eyes off of his face. I wasn't quite callous enough to openly eye him. "Do you move without a pair of your own, your grace?"

I chuckled once at her jest. "I'm of my majority now," I said patting the sword at my side. "And my father told me he'd allow it in exchange for a year with my boring grandfather." I moved over to the case and pointed to one, the shoppe keep went to it. "Here," I said reaching out and coming under her hair, my fingers undid the clasp and I carefully give it back to the man in exchange for the one he had. I brought the necklace to lay against her chest and did it up. "There." "Beauty does not always mean larger," The shoppe keep held up a hand mirror for Azabel to look at it. "Sometimes less ornate jewelry let the wearer shine brighter."

I watched him, wondering what he was up to when he came closer and pointed to a necklace, then bent my head as he moved my hair and clasped the necklace. I gave him a long look before transferring my gaze to the mirror, looking at it with intrigue.
"Are you telling me you are not a man who appreciates a woman who wears her wealth so?" I asked, looking back up at him seriously. It was true - many women did wear jewels as such, a wordless reminder to their power. Suddenly a smile overtook my mouth, shy where before I'd been more flirtatious. "No, you're right. I reached my sixteenth natal a few weeks ago and was sent to pick out something I liked; I'm more browsing than anything else right now."
Why did I explain that to him? A blush covered my cheeks as I touched the necklace, my eyes avoiding his. In all likelihood he didn't care, and I felt even more silly for it.

I chuckled coming to stand at her side and scratched my head absently. "What is wealth?" I asked philosphically but with a teasing smile. Sixteen It flashed in my head and I thought of Phreya, she was sixteen too.
"Somerville," I said thinking. "Is your family staying in the City then?"

Gods, he was tall. Standing a distance away it was apparent, but now with him next to me, it was so much more so. "For a few more weeks," I said with a smile. "I believe the plan is to return to the country for the summer, then possibly come back to wear the winter months here. What of you, your grace? Is your 'boring' year complete with your grandfather?"
My blush remained, though it faded somewhat as I smiled at him, my hand absently fingering the necklace. I glanced to the mirror again and nodded my thanks to the shopkeep before raising my hands to unclasp the necklace.

I nodded listening to her and relaxed my posture a bit. "My year is complete yes," I said smiling. "Thank Elua." I looked at the necklace that she was wearing, or taking off that was. If she wasn't interested in it then I would take it for Phreya, I knew she would love it.
"I'll most likely be spending the summer here." I said a little sobberly. "Queen Sidonie has offered for me to stay at the palace, she says that I should be around more considering my place in D'Angeline peerage." I made a bit of a sour face. My father always said that I had his disposition for court.

I nodded at the shopkeep as I handed him the necklace, indicating I would purchase it. He bobbed a bow and murmured something with a smile before carrying it away to wrap it. "And you're not happy with that?" I asked as I turned back at him, looking curiously up at him.

I shruged watching the man walk away and box up the necklace then turned back to Azabel. "I suppose," I said softly. "I'd rather be in the company of people I know then strange members of my family I only see one a year." I quirked a small smile. "Though never thought to try House Somerville. I'll have to remember their lovely daughter next time I am called to the City." I teased.

"Are you trying to say I'm not making enough of an impression on you to unquestioningly remember me, your grace?" I asked, returning his tease with one of my own, my grin growing. I could feel my eyes shine a little more, and I let my grin grow a little more.

I chuckled though tried to hide it and felt my skin flush. Oh Merciful Kushiel! I need to spend more time flirting so that I didn't blush so damnedly quick.
"Take me to lunch and mayhap I'll remember you." I teased turning to the case that held the necklaces she had been looking at. I still needed a gift for Phreya.

"Done," I responded with a chuckle. The shopkeep came back and handed me a box, murmuring he'd send the bill to my town home. I nodded and thanked him with a warm smile before turning back to Delaunay. "Anything in particular you're looking for?" I asked. "I think red is more your colour..."
I didn't look at him then, but grinned regardless, my eyes going over the jewelry in the case he was studying.

I reached out and pushed her shoulder playfully, for a moment thinking about Phreya and how she would tease me. I recoiled my hand and scrunched my face a little at the faux pas. I was also quiet now, both embarassed and unsure what to speak of next. I turned back to the display and pointed out another sapphire necklace for the shoppe keep to retrieve for me.

He failed to answer me, and I thought mayhap I broached a subject he didn't want to speak of. Still, his playful push brought a laugh from me; I was used to as much and more from my own brothers. I nudged my elbow into his as the shopkeep pulled the necklace from the case, before turning, amusement still on my features as I gave him space to shop.

I chuckled looking away from her and then back for a moment. She was...beautiful...interesting. "Which do you think my sister would like." I said as the shoppe keep brought another few necklaces forward. "She's sixteen too. I promised I'd get her something from the City." I didn't look to her for a moment trying to compose myself a little. "I should get something before lunch."

His sister. Of couse... At his question I made my way back to his side, though in truth I hadn't been far from it, not yet. "I can't say I know her, but if her tastes run anything like mine, I'd have to say that one. It was very pretty, I thought; more ornate than the one I purchased as by right of the Princesses blood, but not so much that it was gaudy. I likely would have bought that one instead if I'd seen it first, and had Delaunay not suggested this one. "Thank you, by the way, for helping me choose mine," I added, glancing up at him with a soft smile.

I looked at the necklace and nodded to the clerk. He took it away and I smiled looking at her. "Good choice." I said smiling in return. "And you're welcome. I know it will look lovely on you. Perhaps it will catch the eye of some young suitor and help you woe him." I teased retrieveing the gold to pay for it.

I make a slight click with my tongue as he said that, putting on a playfully thoughtful look. "Is that so?" I mused, opening the box and taking the necklace out. "Mayhap I should wear it then."
I flashed him a full teasing smile as I put it on myself, pleased with not only how it looked but with how the color matched the deep blue dress I wore. "You'll have to protect me from the mobs, you know," I said idly, trying to hide my tease as I nudged the box towards the shopkeep, no longer needing it. "I bruise easily."

I swallowed hard, my Shahrizai blood burned without notice and a flash of her tied to my bed, and my hands bruising her seared the back of my eyes. I closed my eyes and looked away, willing the desire to cease. I couldn't tell if I was blushing again as my whole body was hot now. I slipped the small box of Phreya's necklace into a pocket and turned to Azabel. "I carry a sword now," Brilliant! I released a burst of air that was half indignation at my actions and half laugh. "I mean, I'm sure I could be of some service."

I just barely bit back a laugh at the way he said it, but I did, my eyes shining with amusement and mirth. "I don't doubt you know how to use it as well," I teased, hoping to keep the air light between us and completely unable to resist teasing him. "Shall we, your grace?" I indicated the door, offering the ability to change the subject and background without being lewd about it shall he not take to my tease lightly.
