When we reached home, I went straight up to my room. I stripped off my clothing, leaving it in a pile. There was a basin of fresh water on the stand and I washed myself with it, trying to cleanse myself of the events of the last hours. It helped, but not enough.
I dressed again, by myself for I had locked my door. I didn't feel like having to deal with comforting staff right now.
I paced the room while Shylah laid on the bed and watched me. I couldn't be still. I felt the need to do something. Not something brave or heroic, just something to prove I was still one of the living.
Grabbing my cloak and purse, I headed back downstairs. Devan was just outside the main door.
"Is the carriage put away?" I asked him.
"No my lady," he said. "I had them put in fresh horses but I thought you might need to go back out so it is ready."
"Bless you, Devan. Have it brought around immediately," I said.
I waited as the carriage was brought up. Devan helped me in and before shutting the door he asked," Where are we headed?"
"The Night Court," I told him. "Alyssum House."
