A sickness had taken the City, and I had never been one to stick around in such atmospheres, something I had learned from my father. I had penned a quick note to Jareth, telling him of my intentions to visit my lands in Kusheth until the sickness blew over, and was now knocking on his door, hoping he was packed and ready. I didn't want to linger any longer than I had to.

I heard the knock at my door and figured it for Ana. I was not terribly concerned about the sickness yet as we had such things at home and if one were careful they could generally escape unscathed. Yet still there was wisdom in fleeing and I always traveled light as I was a soldier at heart. My mount was saddled and I simply tossed my saddle bags over my shoulder and settled my sword belt as I opened the door in my well worn traveling clothes and light leather armor.
I gave Ana a smile “All ready, are you traveling by carriage or horse?”

I smiled back, even though I was on edge. "Horse," I replied, nodding to my mare, the two mounted guards and packhorse waiting behind me. We had enough provisions to see us through to my lands, I had no intention of contact with anyone on the way home. If we were carrying it, it would show in our days on the road, and we would head back to the City instead of carrying the sickness home. I would not jeopardize my people.

“Outstanding” I responded and swung myself up on my own mount after laying my saddle bags across the gelding’s rump. I noted she had guards and it made me smile as I seldom traveled with any of my own much to the consternation of my underlings. The first stages of raw fear of this plague were starting to grip the City but it was hard for me to not feel light hearted as Ana looked quite splendid in her ridding breeches and I did not feel the least bit ill.
I gave the horse a small squeeze of my knees and moved up beside her “Shall we be off?”

We both mounted and I saw his eying my form in the riding breeches. I simply chuckled and settled on to my mare, a little of the tension easing from me. A little bit of luck, and we would be free of the City and I would have Jareth all to myself until the plague had run its course.
"Of course," I replied with a little smile. I loved how he was ready to go, with little conversation needed. There would be a lot of time to speak on the road. "Let's get out of here." We started out for the City gates, my guards falling in behind us.

I nudged my mount and began walking with her toward the gates. "I must confess I have not been to Kusheth what can you tell me about your home?" I tilted my head looking in her direction.

I told him about my province as we rode through the City and out the gates, leaving the sickness behind.
