I'd recieved a letter not more than four days gone now, short and to the point, speaking of a plague that had entered the City and was wracking it with sickness and sometimes death. I knew immediately I had to return - I had my shop to look after, for one, but more importantly I wanted to help out as much as I could, to ration herbs and comfort the ill. Many in Mont Nuit could not afford a healer, I knew; I thought that mayhap I would start there. I set about gathering supplies and packing what I'd brought back into their chests again. It had been decided that Damien would return to the City as well, and, fearing his wounds would reopen from the stress of horseback riding, I coerced him into coming back with me.
The ride was uneventful, though I was anxious to be back. I worried about Quinn even though I wouldn't speak of it, worried about Jess, that either of them would catch ill. When we reached the gates there was some arguement about making us turn back around again, something about the City being on lockdown to stop the spread, but once it was discovered I was a healer they let us through, heading first to Damiens to drop him off.
I was anxious, admittedly. Once we pulled into his drive, I looked at him, trying to keep calm, but wanting to know if those I loved were still well.
"Will you be alright?" I asked as the carriage rolled to a stop, focusing on his injuries to keep my foot from shaking on its own.

I had enjoyed Joie's company, she was kind and caring, the very things that made her an excellent healer made her a good friend as well. I couldn't help, also, to think about how attractive she was. But I was unsure if there would ever lay anything between us and it made parting easier because of it.
I was still stuck on Mirielle anyway.
"I should be." I said softly. "Despite the wounds I think I can walk and the rest has done me well."

I nodded, my hand rising and checking his forehead one last time, more out of habit than anything. "I think you'll be fine," I said as I looked down, digging through a bag I'd brought with me inside the carriage. "But remember Damien - you've been hurt, and your body is still recovering. You can catch the plague easier than if you were well."
Finding what I was looking for, I handed him a small soft leather bag. "Herbs, poultices, enough so you shouldn't run out. But if anything happens, don't hesitate to send me a missive - I'll come as quickly as I am able."

I chuckled and took the items she proffered and nodded to her. "I'm strong," I said smiling softly. "I've had worse." I hadn't really, punched, kicked but never cut, not like this. The door of the carriage opened and I eased myself out with the help of the foot men.
"Thank you again my lady." I said bowing slowly, one hand over my back, one hand across my stomach. "I will be sure to remember the boon I owe you." I added with a wry smile.

"As will I," I said teasingly, flashing him a grin through the open door. "Be safe and well Damien - I mean it, if you have trouble with either your wounds or if you become ill, don't hesitate to send me a missive, no matter the time of day. Or night," I added, still smiling, but hoping he took me seriously.
The footman closed the door, and I leaned to the window, pulling back the curtains that were dusty from the trip. "It was a pleasure meeting you Damien," I said softly. "Hopefully next time it can be on better terms."
By now, Damiens luggage had been taken down and delivered to his doorstep, though in truth there was little, he having traveled by horseback. The carriage started and rolled off, and I waved out the window before sitting back, not bothering to hide my nerves anymore. Gods, I hoped both Quinn and Jess were alright.

I nodded thankfully then waved as her carriage rolled away. I hoped I would see her soon and that nothing bad beheld her during this sickness. Once the carriage was out of sight I turned to my things and my servants, who had appeared out of no where, and then decided that it was time to visit Mirielle...after some freshing up.
