Name: Vivien nó Gentian
Age: 16
Race: d'Angeline
Gender: male
Appearance: There is little remarkable about Vivien’s appearance other than, if not for the angularities of his body, one might mistake him for a girl, albeit not a particularly lovely one. His mushroom brown hair falls almost to his waist in straight, heavy locks. His eyes, too, are a warm but ordinary brown. His features are pleasing, but lack the regularity required for true beauty, although the dimples that dance irrepressibly at he corners of his mouth when he smiles are very charming indeed. He tends to cultivate the girlishness of his appearance, even though it rarely filters as far as his behaviour.
History: Vivien tells stories of his childhood in the soft, lilting voice that still possesses the rounded vowels of a commoner, although very few of them are actually true. Probably he grew up in one of the many villages of Terre d’Ange, one child in a family of many. Being by disposition entirely unsuited to follow in anyone’s footsteps, least of all his father’s, he was passed from trade-to-trade and failed to prove himself a competent apprentice at any, having, for the most part, no interest and less ability.
It is at this point that the history becomes more outlandish and vague than usual: he claims to have “run away” with a party of Tsingsano. Regardless of what actually happened and how, he certainly has an aptitude for tarot cards that owes as much to patient teaching as it does to natural talent, to say nothing of an equal talent for mischief and manipulation. He was taken in, eventually, by House Gentian – again, under dramatically mysterious circumstances, although he claims that, having fallen upon hard times, the cards led him unerringly to safety and to his future life.
Vivien has done well at Gentian, despite (or perhaps because of) his idiosyncrasies of dress and person and his imperfect education. He is a charmingly shameless liar with a penchant for the outrageous, and one day it will probably lead him into trouble. His skill with tarot cards, however, is irrefutable.
