Name: Kara nó Jasmine
Age: 16
Race: D’Angeline
Gender: female
Appearance:
Kara’s eyes are all that keeps her from perfectly fitting the cannon of an adept of Jasmine House. Her skin is a deep tan year round, her hair is as black as pitch, her body is lithe and supple breasts are already curving her figure. At 5’6”, her height blends into the average lineup and, coupled with her hundred and thirty pound frame, lends her a grace that should almost see her among the dancing adepts of the House of Eglantine. Only her eyes set her apart from the rest, their light turquoise color a breath-taking shock amongst the darker colorings found in the rest of her appearance.
History:
Kara is an orphan whose parents died in an epidemic outbreak when she was four. She’s been passed around from house to house as local benevolent people grew tired of having her underfoot. More than one threatened to take her to the orphanage, but she always managed to run away from those before they made good on their threats. Despite her upbringing, she’s mild-mannered with a long fuse on her wicked temper. She learns quickly and adapts to situations rather than fighting them.
At six, her ran away from a poor couple who thought to sell her to a merchant for money to feed the rest of their family. Rather than fighting her way free of the merchant’s guard who’d taken her away from the house, she bided her time. Knowing they must stop to rest once their water supply was low, she punctured their canteens and as they stopped to refill them, quietly slipped into the streets of Night’s Doorstep, evading their capture until they’d been forced to return to the family who sold her and demand repayment for their loss.
She’d carefully avoided Night’s Doorstep thereafter, choosing to try her hand at the Houses of the Court and the Nobility and finding scraps enough in their rubbage to clothe and feed herself until she was taken in as a chimney sweep by a noblewoman among the peerage. Angered at the older woman’s obvious dotage on Kara, the other servants of the house increasingly disliked her and fought to force her out into the streets again. In a little over a year, they succeeded, convincing the older woman that Kara continually stole from her until the woman had threatened to call the authorities. One of the younger maids snuck Kara from the house by the darkness of night. Giving in to her one bout of temper, she did steal the knickknacks taken from the noblewoman by the household staff, selling them when she needed food or clothes.
When she was 8, she was caught stealing scraps from the castoffs behind Jasmine House in the Night Court after the pieces she’d ‘borrowed’ had all been sold. She was taken to the Dowayne of Jasmine House who was prepared to hand her over to the authorities for thievery. Upon seeing her budding beauty, however, he chose to offer her alternatives to this fate. He offered her a place within the household, first, telling her he’d recently lost a few scullery maids to various ends and was in need of servants to clean the immense, sprawling house that held all the adepts of Jasmine House. She mulled over that a moment, not caring much for a life of cleaning up after people. She hadn’t managed to live as long as she had without being able to read people, however, and she saw the alternative hovering in his eye. When she asked him about it, he told her of Jasmine House’s cannon, of the giving and receiving of pleasure within the walls of this house and how her appearance seemed to fit their usual expectations. With the notable exception of her eyes. “Enigmatic,” he’d called them. He gave her a night to think it over and had her shown to one of the vacant adepts’ rooms. The opulence of the room called to her, the luxurious feel of the bed linens on skin used to hard pallets and rough cotton clothes made her decision for her and she approached the Dowayne the following morning and accepted his invitation to become an adept of Jasmine House.
The truth came quickly enough, but she adapted as she always had, knowing that the room she’d slept in her first night would one day be hers. She made that her goal and, now, eight years later, was standing on the edge of attaining her goals; ready to take her place among the adepts of Jasmine House.
