Émile d’Ames
Émile's mother is a former Mandrake adept, his father is a chevalier in Camlach.
He would have been sent to House Mandrake if he hadn't been born the middle child.
During his fostering with the Cassilines, he:
--Earned the nickname "Demon" because of his ferocity in battle (Note on a possible alternate rumour: It has been whispered among the higher-ranking D'Angeline peerage that the nickname "Demon" may be more than just a nickname--perhaps Émile isn't as human as he seems...)
--Near-fatally injured a fellow Cassiline in a fight --was sent to Camlach for a time, but was called back after becoming seriously ill
He loves the smell of lilacs, but he won't keep any in his room because he fears that people will think it's 'unmanly' of him.
--came close to sleeping with a Shahrizai --may in fact have feelings for his ward
Has named his new weapons:
Dagger, right hand: Dawn's Shadow (or "Dawn") Dagger, left hand: Dusk's Light (or "Dusk") Sword: Summer's Lightning (or "Lightning")

Catherine no Gentian
Catherine's father is a priest of Naamah. Her mother and grandmother were both Gentian adepts.
She detests the smell of opium, which is why she spends most of her time outside.
She is particularly afraid of whips and knives.
She has a crush on Darien Kachine.

--only likes female Valerians and male Mandrakes
--is friends with the second of Mandrake House, who refers to him as "Fox" for his red hair (whether he is cunning remains to be seen)
--is extremely protective of his family (particularly Emile) and lovers--to the point where he would gladly kill for them
--secretly wishes to be knighted
--is afraid of the dowayne of Mandrake House. The one person who frightens him more is his mother

Mael Leblanc
Rumor has it:
Mael has been declared deceased by the local authorities in L'Agnace. The only person who knows this claim to be false is his mother's banker. No evidence has survived to back up his claim that he is the son of the late Lady Jehane Leblanc, who tragically perished when their manse succumbed to fire.
He is known as the "Prince of the Pits" (often shortened to "Prince"). It is a well-known fact in Night's Doorstep that no one crosses the blindfolded man without facing dire consequences for doing so. Despite this fearsome reputation, others speak of him as being friendly and approachable.
He is often seen in the company of a Bodhistani boy named Adrien (nicknamed "Tiger" for his ferocity in battle). The two of them are closer than brothers.
He has been seen visiting both Mandrake and Heliotrope houses.
