I enjoyed smelling as lovely as I enjoyed looking pretty, and I prided myself on having a wide array of perfumes to choose from. One of my favorites was running low and I'd heard of a quaint little shoppe that specialized in perfumes and oils, so I made my way out there to look around.
Entering the shoppe, I smiled at the keeper and began browsing, the wide array of smells combining into a sweet, spicy mixture.

I had a rueful grin on my face as I entered the little shop. If anyone had told me a year ago I would be entering a perfume shop I would have called them daft. But here I was looking oddly for something a bit masculine for myself since I had been told on a couple occasions I smelled of horses and sweat and that I in turn had decided was not a good odor for a noble. I was starting to not so much miss my dearly departed father as suspect he was watching and having a good laugh at me and the predicament his passing had saddled me with.

The little ring of the door didn't draw my attention; in truth, I barely heard it, so intent was I on finding something to purchase. My fingertips caressed the outside of a particular jar and I delicately sniffed at it, undecided.
Glancing up, I looked for an unwary victim to test it out on. One caught my gaze, and... Gods, he looked familiar. "Excuse me," I said softly, trying to gain his attention.

A female voice capture my attention and I looked that way. It took me a moment but I recognized the woman as she as from my home province. It was only a passing acquaintance but an acquaintance none the less. I nodded and grinned “Yes, Vicomtesse D'Aubigne?” I placed a questioning lit at the end f my sentence though I was reasonably certain I was correct in my assessment of who had addressed me.

My eyes narrowed a little more, a little perturbed that he recognized me when I didn't recognize him. "Duc de Aiglemort?" I asked curiously, hoping I was right.

I inclined my head “The same” I could read the mild irritation in her manner but showed no outward reaction to it. It was a simple matter that I recognized her and she not me as our age differences would explain. “What might I do for you?”

I gave him a sweet smile. "A pleasure to see you again, Duc," I said polietly. "It has been some time - though I don't think either of us held title when we last saw one another."
I held up the glass jar of perfume. "Would you mind terrible at smelling this, and tell me your honest reaction?"

"No neither of us did and not at all" I held out my hand for the jar. "Though I am not sure how good a judge of fragrance I am."

I gave him a wry look, setting the glass jar in his hand. Before letting go, though, I brought my other hand up and closed his fingers around the jar, holding onto them, my eyes on his. "When you smell it, think of your other half," I said softly. "Close your eyes, summon her image, and when you smell it, see if you could picture yourself laying in bed next to her, she smelling like this."
I let go of him, fingertips slipping across his skin before the contact was ended and I straightened.

I raised a brow at her instructions and did my best not to react to her suggestive touch though I am sure she could tell it did get a reaction. I was just as sure she knew exactly what she was doing with words and gesture and I assessed her to be a formidable young woman…..interesting. I took a light sniff of the perfume and turned down my lips as my eyes drifted close then cracked back open. “Too strong and flowery, I prefer something subtle that teases the senses and has less of a sweet odor. Think of a fresh spring day and that is more the flavor I favor.” I had to fight down a laugh as I thought “Quote the man who reeks of horse flesh.’

He seemed amused at the end, and for a reason I couldn't quite understand. Giving him a sideways look, I took the bottle back and replaced it, a sweet smile on my mouth. "Thank you for your input," I said gently. A pause, a slight hesitation, and I looked at him, my smile turning slightly hopeful. "Are you busy? I fear I'm in the market for a new scent, and as you seem knowing, I would be ever grateful for your time and opinions."

Me knowing about scent? That was nearly as amusing as the fact I tended to smell like a horse, but I would give the lady her due in that she was making the right moves in trying to befriend the Duc of her home province. Besides I had been doing much as of late to foster the image that I did not think with my sword like many of my family even going so far as to sponsor a glass artist. So what was another more wonderment?
“Am not terribly busy to be honest. In fact I am simply searching for something to cover the horse scent on me. I do not think it a proper odor for polite society.” I shrugged my thick shoulders “I do not know scents I simply know what appeals to me and I am not shy about saying so.”

"Mayhap we can help each other then," I said, pleasantly surprised by the way this was turning about. "I'll help you cover that rustic manly scent of yours with something a little more genteel, and you help me choose something that will appeal."
Honestly, it didn't matter what it was that he said he liked; I'd buy it, and namely because he was from my providence and outranked me. Not daring to be bold enough to capture his hand and lightly pull him towards me, down the isle I was beginning in, I merely gestured instead, taking a step back to allow him to precede me. "Does that sounds alright to you?"

“But of course” I nodded and preceded her even though it made my shoulders itch. Normally I let the lady go first and those who are trained in the arts of war craft tend to not like others behind them. Though I suspected if she slipped any blades between my ribs it would be social and not literal.
It was pretty blatant sucking up on her part but I could be pleasant when times called for it. “Is there any particular smell you favor?”

I smiled a little wryly, having seen the distasteful look that entered his eye when he moved to walk ahead of me. "No, nothing in particular," I said, my gaze looking at him a little sideways. "If you're busy, your grace, you have no obligation to remain here. I will not hold it against you."
Though I will remember.

I shook my head "I said I was not busy" I paused in front of as likely a batch of shelves as any. I then looked up and gave a small crooked grin as I took in the jars "I really have no idea what so ever where to start so I think I shall let you lead."

My mouth twisted wryly again at his words, and I let the subject drop. If I was imposing on him, well, it was his own damned fault. I'd given him two outs now, and he'd chosen to take neither. That was well and good for me, though... it gave me the ability to play another hand with him, though I kept that one in my pocket for now.
"Alright," I answered, slipping by him again. My skirts brushed against his hip as I moved, though I never looked at him, my gaze kept to the shelves. "What of this one?" I said as I settled on his other side, plucking down a small, pink bottle and holding it to him.

She brushed past me in a rather coy manner and I was finding her a bit difficult to judge. That in and of its self was rather interesting as I tend to be a pretty quick study on people. I took the offered container and opened it sniffing lightly. It was less flowery and more musky which I liked but the scent was a bit overpowering still “I like the scent better than the first as it is more earthy but it is still a bit strong for my tastes.” I offered the still uncapped bottle “See what you think.”

I watched him curiously as he tested the bottle before nodding my head as if a decision was made. "I've smelled it before," I commented, giving him a wry smile from the side as I took the bottle and replaced it on the shelf. "I sent a bottle of it to my sister back at the estate, actually. Are you long come to the City, your grace?"
I turned, looking at him more curiously as I paused in browsing the scents, our shared homeland a source of great interest to me. And, namely, whether my sister had gotten into any sort of trouble that I'd not heard of since I'd left.

I nodded my head at her words and answered her question directly "I have procured a residence in the City since assuming my title. I am afraid that to properly discharge my duties will require me to have more of a presence here than I have maintained in the past." I shrugged and added "It is taking a bit of getting used to on my part."

I gave him a half coy, half wry look, remembering well how... uptight... he'd been when I'd seen him before. Turning back to the perfumes, I took a few more steps, browsing through before glancing back at him over the lift of my shoulder. "I must admit, Jareth, I was rather surprised that you recognized me as quickly as you did. I heard about your father - I'm sorry, for what it means. I'm sure my father sent a condolence gift to your estate."

I nodded “Thank you my lady, my father had a long and prosperous life but still it is a shock. And yes your father did thank you.” Unconsciously I folded my hands behind my back and followed her “As for recognizing you I try to make sure I recall people once I meet them. I do a few mental exercises to help with it but it does not always work out that way.”
