A few days after Beltane, I went down to the City Academy to enroll for the summer session. The beautiful campus lay situated in the Temple district; I was sure Shemhazai would approve. Entering the administrative building, I walked down a long hallway before coming to the door marked "Enregistrement". I knocked softly before entering.
The clerk behind the desk asked, "May I help you?"
"Yes," I said, "I would like to enroll for summer courses, please."
"Name?"
"Avive de Mauvais."
"Address?"
"House Mauvais, West Borough, City of Elua."
"Date of birth?"
"September 1."
"Who may we contact in case of emergency?"
"My cousin, Duc Alain de Mauvais."
"Course requests?"
"Advanced Genealogy, Introduction to Botany, and Human Anatomy."
The clerk raised an eyebrow. "Not Introduction to D'Angeline Literature?"
I narrowed my eyes at him. "No, thank you."
He shrugged. "I thought, as a woman, you know..."
"As a descendent of Shemhazai, I will study what I wish. Thank you for your time."
He handed me my enrollment slip, and I signed, before walking out of the office.
